So I read a piece in some paper about Cothron suggesting he, too, is going to have eligibility issues. So it follows we should be hearing a verbal shortly and then get our hopes dashed within a year, right?

"Yes, Harrow gave the Wolfpack a verbal commitment 15 months ago. And he has a tight bond with State coach Sidney Lowe and assistant Larry Harris. But right now, with the Pack entering its most critical season of the 21st century, the job security of the coaching staff is questionable at best. And so it's perfectly reasonable to think that Harrow, while remaining devoted to the Wolfpack, won't sign his letter of intent during the NCAA's early signing period in November.

"We've knocked that around a little bit," Goydish said. "For me, I'd like it to get over with. But at the same time we have to do what's best for Ryan. I love those guys at State. And Ryan's a very loyal kid. But I've told him, 'It's great to be loyal but at the same token, you have to understand the business dynamics.' We'll sit down as that time comes and weigh the pros and cons. If he wants to sign early, great. But if there are reasons he didn't, I'd understand that as well.""

It begins.

Also, I see Cothron has narrowed his list down to 3 but it's an insider report on Packpride. I have to assume we are in it with him, though I have no idea who the other 2 would be. I don't think UConn is really recruiting him much anymore for one reason or another.

yeah, but our fucking shithead fanbase will drive him out, then a great recruiting class will de-commit and go elsewhere, we go after every big name again, fail, and then end up with another downgrade. lather rinse repeat.

I'm not happy with the current state of the basketball program, but firing him now is not going to land us an elite coach. No elite coach would take this job.

i love these conflicting pp and wph articles.

cothron says getting along with the coach and how he plans to use him in the system are his most important factor in his decision.

But firing him a year or two from now when we're in the same position might get us an elite coach??

We should NEVER let the fate of a recruit be a determining factor in deciding whether or not to keep a coach (unless its Lebron James). And there's no way our next coach will ever be "elite"...but it could be a small-name, really good coach.

I've pretty much given up on basketball for the next 5 years.

Yeah, but if we don't at least give him a chance to work with Brown, Harrow, and (hopefully) Cothron/Leslie, I'll be pissed.

^ I don't think there is ANY chance Sid will be fired this year and I really think we'll lose 12-13 games in the ACC this year, so that is saying something.

That said, Lowe is quickly turning EXACTLY the same way Herb was. He has sucked it up hard the first few years and now we're saying wait until he get this guy. Herb's detractors always said that it was always, "Wait until we get Wilkins" or "We have a great class coming in" or "He'll get his PG next year -- Chris Wright" and it never worked out.

I sense a similar scenario happening with Lowe...

99% of the time, Pack Pride will be the more reliable source. They report there stories not as NCSU fans and that makes a world of difference with regards to truth. WPH is what it is. A fan blog site that has a very optimistic lean. Nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't make for the most objective and factual information.

when did i say anything about firing him in a year or two?

I can't say how I'm going to feel about him in a year or two. My point is that he's getting better and better talent, and I believe we'll get better as time goes on. I think Sidney is still learning how to be a college coach. While that is not an ideal situation, that's what we've got and I think he'll be an increasingly better coach as time goes on.

You didn't...I'm just saying in general to people who use the argument "if we fire him now, we're not going to get an elite coach".

We're not going to get an elite coach any time in the near future. Only chance we get an elite coach is if Sidney somehow becomes one...or if our next coach comes in and turns the program around (like finishing top 4 ACC for a few years running) and our program is back to respectability...then we MIGHT be able to get in an elite coach.

Now we can only hope that Sidney succeeds (which I don't feel good about), or that we actually bring in a really good no-name coach who can turn this program around. Either way...I'm not seeing anything good happening with this program before my 30th birthday.

And sadly enough...I see this happening too:

Although it kind of worked out with Herb. Hodge turned us around and we kept it up for a couple years after that. Unfortunately it wasn't enough for him. Let's see what happens with Lowe...I'm just not holding my breath.

apparently this was the case but i've heard it wasnt going to be a problem now. but this is from the same source that said LoBrown wasnt going to be an issue either so...take that with a grain of salt.
i can tell you that our staff did an in home visit with LC's mom and it went very well.

at the wolf pack club meeting Jed said something along the lines of a new recruit for next year being on the verge of committing to the pack but no names were said.

i've also been hearing a lot of talk about how we are in very good shape with CJL. UNC will only push if they dont land their other top 2 targets. Log jam at his position for Kentyucky plus they just signed a small forward for next year (his true college position) dont have to worry about Wake b/c of Tabb

ryan harrow and zo give us a better chance to win with no coach than whatever fuckwad fowler is going to hire next. what was it Baron Davis said? "We were the first UCLA team to ever make the Final 4 without a coach" You just bank on something like that happening, because there's a 0% chance we're getting the next Darrin Horn or whatever you think might happen. Most likely we just end up with a shitty white version of Sidney Lowe who had one fluke year with a midmajor like the Buffalo coach did in football last season

also ryan has always said he's coming to nc state as long as lowe is here. this is not new news, it's just another faggot newspaper writing an article as negatively as possible

We currently have the #12 class in ESPN's rankings of the 2010 classes. The sad thing is that we are still #4 in the ACC, but that could change quickly if we land Leslie, Cothron, or both.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/classrankings?classyear=2010&classmonth=9&rank=12

Quote :
"Lorenzo Brown (Roswell, Ga./Hargrave Military Academy) is a super-talented guard who was originally a member of last year's class. He will be spending a fifth year at Hargrave. Brown can do it all offensively. He can play all three perimeter positions and would be a top-20 player if he were in the 2010 class. Ryan Harrow (Marietta, Ga./Walton) is an ultra-skilled point guard. He is an excellent creator and a very good scorer. He is greatly improved over the past year -- most significantly, he looks much more athletic."

hahaha....here's what ESPN has to say about Lo Brown

Quote :
"December, 2008: Lorenzo is a high-level athlete who is a multi-versatile player. At the Glaxo Smith Kline, he scored off drives, in the open court, and shot the 3. With his athleticism he should be a good defender at the next level. He has nice size for a guard.

July, 2008: Brown isn't a high level athlete, but he has great skills, nice size for the 1, and a solid feel for the game. He has an innate ability to get to the basket and find teammates for open looks. He is deceptively quick with the dribble that allows himself to separate from defenders and his pull-up jump shot is solid."

Apparently Brown gained some athleticism from July to December

reco mccarter committed to VCU earlier this week. seems odd to choose them over va tech or georgia. they were good with eric maynor and anthony grant as the head coach, but both are no longer there.

When Duke finally lands Irving (which is a 100% ironclad lock) and Barnes (I'd say about 80%) they'll be #1 or 2 in the country.

Talking with Kentucky people, it looks like they want to land a 3/4 in this class to replace Patterson. It'll either be Leslie or Tobias Harris

I've heard a lot of stuff which leads to CJ Leslie no longer being an option for UNC. Talking with a UNC fan that has connections to the program, it looks like they might be saving the scholarship for 2011 if Barnes doesn't come.

"Luke Cothron scouting report:

From the haircut to his physical frame to his skill package, Cothron strongly resembles former Louisville star Pervis Ellison. A long, fluid athlete, Cothron can both beat his man down the court as well as chase down rebounds. And when he gets the ball in his hands, he knows what to do with it. Cothron is a skilled low post scorer with a variety of moves and has a dangerous face up game as well. Gaining strength and becoming more explosive in traffic will be important in Cothron’s development as a college player."

Sounds great to me. Also I'm glad that he is a good rebounder. We haven't had one of those in a good while.

Awesome. That's a nice get. Still would like to keep on Leslie. We're going to have like 4 PFs on the roster next year, but Leslie is actually developing in to a competent and oversized (!) hybrid-forward type anyway.

Kinda OT, but why do almost all of these athletes wait until 2nd semester SR year to take the ACT/SAT? Are they just too stupid to take them with normal students as a JR? I'd think it would be an advantage to give yourself 3 chances to pass...

How good is the PF class this year? Cothron is PF13 on Scout but a Top 50 guy...

*** Also, if Duke lands Irving and Barnes they will have the #1 class in the country and the ACC.

Cothron is a HUGE pickup. REALLY huge in fact. State now has the big man it needed to fill out the 2010 class. Yes he's not CJL, but this pickup gives Lowe another high-level athlete that would get PT on virtually any roster in the ACC.

From what I've read I expect him to be a Tracy Smith caliber player, except that he may better defensively. He's a big athletic power forward that will be a beast on the boards. He's got nice upside depending on how long he sticks around too. Bottom line - if State wants to compete with the likes of UNC, then it starts with landing athletes like Cothron.

This is awesome news guys. This is FREAKIN' AWESOME NEWS. Today is a damn good day
