No use whining and bitching about the hire now, it's over. More importantly does anyone know anything about his coaching style, ability to recruit, past assistants, etc? I mainly want to know what type of offensive system he runs or if he changes it based on his current players.

Most of you guys are nuts. Considering how this played out... it was a good hire.

I'd much rather have Gottfried than some flash in the pan like Shaka Smart. I think we'll look back on this and feel better than we did with Lowe here.

fairly up tempo teams, there near the end he kind of got a rep for relying on one or two star players rather than getting the team to distribute the ball more (but that could be a plus depending on your viewpoint)

he signed knox, who played at UNC this season.. I think that's the only person he signed that I've heard of, although he seems to pull pretty solid recruits

Honestly, I have more hope for us to get back to the NCAAs than I did under Sid.

We still won't be UNC or Duke but I don't give a shit about that. I KNOW this guy's better than Seth Greenberg.

Honestly there are better coaches that would've been great but I'm really not upset.

After DY's letter I was bracing for the worst but this isn't bad.

The guy has proven he can win, albeit in the SEC. But he at least has some history of being a winner. I don't understand how anyone can say he isn't a better hire then Shaka. Shaka might be the hot hire right now but remember all the attention George Mason's coach got during their run? Where is he now.

The goal for me was to get someone better than at least the 4th best coach in the league. That's either Greenberg or Leonard Hamilton by my current measure. We did that.

wow pretty solid hire, and this guy wasn't on my radar at all, a lot of the posters on this thread can't seem to comprehend that younger coaches moving up to better programs actually increases their ceiling, so if he can take alabama to their ONLY elite 8 he should hopefully be able to make a final four run here once in a while

He's better than Marshall. At least we know he can make the tournament and keep teams ranked, etc. If he's a dick, he at least has a winning tradition in the SEC going for him.
