It's more obvious now why O'brien never fired anyone..probably a little loyalty..but also because TOB wasn't heavily involved in recruiting process. It's obvious that his position coaches are the ones that the kids have most loyalty to. I hope Doeren (it looks like he will be) will be more involved and a player will pick the head coach (and school) more over the position coach.

of course I do....I'm probably just digging too far into it...I guess if TOB was still there and walters was fired, priester would still come, but I also think the way o'brien was involved in recruiting wasn't as impressive to big time recruits. a position coach obviously needs to be the main recruiter, i just don't think TOB was a great closer for the big players because he wasn't as heavily involved as someone like a Dabo Swinney. 12/18/2012 10:46:01 AM |

I had a conversation with Sterling Lucas a while back and he basically said the same thing. He reiterated that TOB was not a players coach and never would be. 12/18/2012 11:02:52 AM |

^TOB was a 180 turn from what we had in Amato. NCSU overcorrected from a Coach that was very much a players coach to one that was far from it.
Hopefully Coach D will be a middle of the road, appeal to players but keep some of the structure that TOB had going 12/18/2012 12:33:43 PM |

I was at a wedding that Mathias Kiawanuka also attended a couple years ago and I got drunk and asked him about TOB...
He laughed and said he didn't really like him when he was in college...but the older he got, the more he appreciated having him as a coach...life lessons and such. 12/18/2012 12:57:05 PM |

Canada isn't going anywhere. Hes signed the contract and the main reporter for Wisconsin football has been on radio shows stating that report as Bogus and that Canada is gone. 12/20/2012 9:54:05 PM |

Canada was only at Wisconsin for 1 year, before that he was at NIU running the spread. His primary offense is the spread and last year he was trying to adjust in order to fit what Wisconsin had and liked to do.
I'm not sure that we'll run the spread year one, but once we have the roster and, more importantly, the right QB for it, I imagine we'll make the move. 12/23/2012 5:58:04 PM |

To add... I don't think you necessarily have to run a pure spread to be effective. In truth you could run a west coast scheme which shares a lot of the spread but you don't have to use pure athleticism to spread the field. You can run more under center and don't have to be exclusively out of the shotgun. 12/23/2012 6:03:58 PM |

I wouldn't call what we run a west coast, it's more a pro style offense. The only reason we have as much passing as we do is because we can't run the ball well in the traditional sets we have. I don't ever recall hearing it referred to as a west coast by anyone either. We did run the west coast under amato for a period 12/24/2012 1:56:06 AM |

^bahahaha...thanks...I needed that laugh. We ran a pro-style with west coast/spread mixed in. Probably the closest thing to a "pro" offense that is run in college these days. 12/24/2012 3:30:31 AM |

He was one of the better DBs we had committed before TOB was fired, at least Tocho and Edmond are solid.
On a more positive front, 4 star DT Deadrin Senat now has a top 3 of State, FSU and South Carolina according to The Wolfpacker. He'll take an OV to Raleigh sometime in January. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncstate/football/recruiting/player-Deadrin-Senat-129381 1/1/2013 2:38:19 PM |

Id like to see an emphasis on OL/DL recruiting. Outside of the QB, that is where shit is won in college football
