obama is calling for a national discussion about gun laws. cool, because that's an idea that has not been tried recently and will totally help.
way to waste already non-existent political capital right before another debt ceiling clusterfuck __
Also, Obama is waiving the prohibitions in sections 40 and 40A of the Arms Export Control Act so that we can supply guns to terrorists 9/18/2013 10:03:34 AM |

Seriously, current projections show that deficit reduction has lowered GDP growth by about 0.5%. Since our current growth is somewhere between 2% and 2.5%, if we go much lower (which significant budget cuts would almost certainly send us lower) GDP growth won't be able to keep up with population growth. Unemployment will start creeping up, more people will roll onto unemployment/disability/SNAP/etc, and our annual budget deficits will start creeping up again.
deficit reduction takes time, and is best when it's done incrementally. Some certainty and a few years of growth (to build confidence) would do wonders for our economy. 9/22/2013 2:28:44 PM |

the website is incomplete, it is not a traffic related question. what actually exists of the site is actually speedy and dare I say pretty attractive for a government website. the problem is that the signup process cannot be completed because of a screwup in it's design. It requires you to identify security questions before you can create an account except no security questions can be selected.
I know it's not Obama's fault but it's on his watch and it's kinda the one thing you can't have happen on a big launch day for your signature accomplishment. I mean did no one check to see if a user could last 5 minutes on the site... 10/1/2013 12:22:02 PM |

You know, the administration could very easily blame any problems with the website or exchanges on the government shutdown. It would be bullshit, of course, but it would pretty effective PR and stress just how highly cynical and counter-productive the GOP is being. 10/1/2013 12:42:21 PM |

And you know this isn't traffic related because....?
You know the servers hosting the requests for security validations aren't overloaded? You think that because the client-side font end loads nice and neat the database calls in the backend aren't ending in errors that aren't being displayed?
Do you seriously think that this was never tested at all and that it's more plausible that the website just was configured incorrectly than content is failing to load due to traffic?10/1/2013 12:48:15 PM |

Why do you think I give a shit about Foxnews Bullet?
Let me restate.
Why is he talking to the media at all if this is such a crisis that needs immediate fixing? Somehow I think approaching House/Senate members directly instead of public shaming might be the more executive approach no? 10/1/2013 12:52:21 PM |

Because doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is insane.
They do not respect him and do not listen to him. About the only "executive" thing to do that they wouldn't just respond with snark would be to order the military to arrest them for treason. 10/1/2013 12:54:49 PM |

^ is that actually true at this point? I havent been following this too closely, but is the GOP's only demand to delay the entire law for 1 year?
The most burdensome part of the law (requiring employers to cover all employees working 30+ hours) has already been delayed a year, which seems reasonable.
Other than a blanket delay, is the GOP requesting anything else? 10/1/2013 6:41:35 PM |
y0willy0 All American 7863 Posts user info edit post |
They would probably not even request the delay if Congress removed their own subsidies.
The delay might have been beneficial to Obama in making this whole thing go more smoothly, but I guess we're going more for the rip off the band aid quickly treatment.
Its hardly extortion, although I totally dig disco_stu's ideas on the military/treason. I just want to be entertained by Washington's shenanigans.

Yeah, this is also the GOPs fault. During the original negotiations, Chuck Grassley put in an amendment forcing members of Congress and their staffers into the exchanges instead of just keeping their existing health care plans, in the hopes that Democrats would no longer vote for the bill. Well, it still passed and staffers were royally fucked over because it essentially amounted to a giant paycut. So OPM created a rule where staffers would get a subsidy towards buying health insurance on the exchanges that was equal in value to their original plans. Now the GOP is demanding that subsidy be removed, which will accomplish nothing except giving their staffers the finger. It's idiotic.10/1/2013 11:02:22 PM |

Royally fucked over, just like the American people. It's foolish to think that making congress adhere to the rules John Q Public has to face, makes GOP idiotic.
