i had a budget while in college

our financial situation has changed significantly in the last month, though. rent, higher electric bill, inherited her car payment, two paychecks now, etc.

i guess i should've said "today, we will make our new budget"

i feel like i could support a live in gf without really taking any sort of hit financially, where im at right now

my bills would be about the same.

if she had a job, and a job where she made close to what i do...

well then. it'd be hot.

....why do you think we have been avoiding kids? i'm not sure i'll ever be ready to have kids, because living financially comfortable, vacationing when we want, buying stuff if/when we want - yeah, not sure i wanna give that up

I've been thinking about that lately. I know I really want kids at some point, but I keep getting happier with my life as it is now, and I don't want that to change for quite a long time.

y'all should check out some of the forums/websites for people who avoid children

they use terms like "crotch fruit" and use "breeders" as a derogatory term for people who have children

it's interesting to see the whole subculture that exists

in the same way, you can check out the websites where people have umpteen kids and call folks w/o children selfish, etc.

i'd be cool with mine until he/she was like 4. then i'd want to ship them off. If it's a boy, he can come back when he's 21 and in college. If it's a girl, since i want to be the gun-toting father, i'll let her come back when she's 16 so i can embarras her and threaten her boyfriends

I don't like a lot of kids because they're spoiled bitches with no discipline. Mine will not be that way. So I hope I'd like them, but you never can tell.

^^ i don't either... my sisters aren't like that thank god. i'd call em out on that shit if they were

although one of my sister's friends is like that - and the child is vicious. at her bday party, she started attacking my niece, pulling at her eyes stuff like that.... her punishment was a calming voice asking her not to do that. wtf is that ?!

I feel like you need to have a healthy balance with your kid. Don't be their bff, but be someone they can talk to. I would consider my mom one of my closest friends BUT at the same time, I'm scared shitless of her and she's still my mom above all

Yeah, you def don't have to rule with an iron fist, just don't be one of those parents who is like "stop jumping on your brother, pretty please" without a hint of firmness.

i feel like my childhood progressed pretty normally with my parents (esp my mom). or at least what i'd consider normal.

as a kid...yay mommy loves me! except when i'm bad then she is very scaryyyyyyyyy. so i try not to be bad cause she's too scary and i know i will be punished. and there are chores regardless of my behavior.

teenager...mom/teenage daughter butting heads and me doing things to purposefully piss her off and then getting in trouble and me being like "I HATE YOU"

late high school through college...definitely more of a friendship (still got in trouble for things - mostly not managing money well). which i feel is normal. the older you get the more your parents become your friends. they're always your parents, though.

i don't understand either the parents that try to befriend their 6 year old kid. i agree - balance is important though because even when my mom and i were going through our teenage daughter/mother relationship, i knew i could always talk to her about ANYTHING. so even though she would punish me and we fought about boys, clothes, going out, etc, etc i still knew that she was there for me. and if a parent is TOO much of a disciplinarian or too harsh the kid might not feel comfortable coming to them....which can lead to horrible situations.

My mom was the type to go up to a kiosk at Busch Gardens when we were all being assholes, ask for one of those paddle ball things, rip the ball off, then give it to the cashier and say "I won't be needing this." Then she told us the dancing bears would dance across our ass if we didn't cool it.

That was enough for me, and all the girls... Kyle was the only one who got the dancing bears

She always asked me, "Do we need to go the bathroom?" and gave me the Scorpio death stare

That meant business. I usually was asked this question after hiding in clothes racks for a long time.

^^ hahaha

my mom also liked to grab my arm and dig her fingernails in if i was being bad in public

ouchies

i also got my mouth washed out with soap more than once. i just wasn't good with "because i said so" as an answer to why i couldn't so something. so i'd be like why? but WHY? BUT WHYYYYYY??

in high school it was really awesome when she'd tutor me in math. i suck at math. and she was a math teacher. so we'd sit there for hours and she'd be like "FOIL!!!!!!!!!! WHY DONT YOU UNDERSTANDDDDDDD"

but everyone else thought she was the nicest tutor ever. little did they know the math wrath.

ohhhh. i didn't have that in school. and my parents didn't have one. i just got good old hand to ass spankings.

my mom still tried to spank me when i was like 11 and 12

that is when i started plunging full force into my overdramatic teenage years and would threaten to call child services

My parents would use a wooden spoon. My mom also threatened with a count (1...2...3), and if she got to three we would get smacked if we didn't stop by then. She still uses the count these days
