Ooh kdcad I LOVE that Mother's Day idea. I'm very close with my bfs parents and was wondering what I was going to get her for Mother's Day. I eat lunch with their fam every Sunday so I was thinking that I was going to cook something and maybe get her some flowers to plant bc she loves to garden. My bf's brother passed away 15 years ago and I love the idea of donating money to a foundation in memory of him for her. Do ya'll think that is a good idea?

I know we talk about clothes all the time in this thread, but how do you gals organize your closets?

I just picked up 4 tubs of my clothes that were in storage last weekend and I am struggling to organize all our stuff now. there wasn't a whole lot of organization going on in the first place and now I really need to redo all the closets #

I separated them into dresses/suits and then skirts tops. Then i organized them by colors. Darkest to lightest.

Yes, I'm odd.

I organize by color, then within each color I organize by length of sleeves.. then within each section of sleeve length I organize from plain to striped to printed

then I do the same with my pants

then the same with my jackets

and my colors go: white, beige, pink, peach, yellow, orange, green, blue, brown, gray, black

My closet is sorted by color. Anything that won't stay on a hanger just goes in sorted dressers drawers.

This is how my closet is sorted:

[---Nice clothes---][---Offensive shirts---][---Regular shirts---]

Pants/socks/boxers/shorts/etc. go in the dresser.

part of my problem is that I cant find any hangers here that don't suck for less than a dollar or two per hanger. I'm coming back to the US this weekend though, where are the good hangers hiding?

I do mine in categories of dresses, skirts, pants, dressy tank tops, dressy short-sleeve shirts, casual short-sleeve shirts, long-sleeve shirts, coverups and sweaters. All the tops are sub-organized by color. Everything else is in drawers. Shoes are on shoe racks on the floor. Belts are in one of those long hanging shoe rack things tucked into the pockets. Purses are in one of those big stacking bin things with drawers. Jewelry, etc. is in two jewelry boxes. Off-season sweaters go in an underbed storage box. Coats are in my hall closet.

i make some changes between winter and summer, but my summer closet is as follows

hoodies/light jackets...lightweight long sleeve shirts & button downs...cardigans & crocheted sweaters...shirts...tanks that i hang up...skirts...sundresses...nicer dresses

I yank out all the long sleeve shirts and put up the dresses and shirts. Sometimes I try and keep my work clothes together but other than its wherever there's a spot. Luckily I don't have many clothes so I can find what I'm looking for pretty quickly, thus no need to organize

I don't have many either, but with a small closet it makes things a lot easier to see when it's organized.

i have a butterfly hanger that I got at BB&B that I put my scarves on; and i put the hanger at the very end of the rack.
We have an over the door hook system that has all of our belts.
shoes and boots are all lined up on the floor of the closet, and I have a shoe rack as well.
my jeans and shorts are folded and on shelves on the left.

husband doesn't know it, but I organize his section too...
hoodies...sweaters...long sleeve button downs...polos...pants

all of our tshirts & his shorts are in a drawer

here's the butterfly hanger

my closet isn't organized by color or anything or even that organized. but i have 2 closets in my room so 1 closet is for "nice/professional clothes" so i keep all my nice skirts, dresses, etc in there. and i have those hangers that you can hang several skirts/slacks on to organize professional and nicer stuff

then in my other closet i keep casual everyday clothes and i just organize by category: try to keep dresses and skirts together, shirts together.

i don't hang sweaters up because i don't want them to get misshapen or stretched from the hanger (i've had that happen before) so i fold those and they go in a drawer. i don't hang up basic cotton shirts either - those are folded in a drawer too.

shoes are organized by kind. and then i have a hanger for scarves and a hanger for belts and a shelf for bags.

not THAT organized but i try to keep it so i can find things!

oh - and i know double post but this is a separate topic so i didn't want to add to the bottom of the closet one.

in regards to MOTHERS DAY presents, the donation thing is a good idea (i love that people liked it and are going to use it). but even if you don't have like a relative you can donate in memory of for your mom, there are other cool sentimental things you can do for her (in addition to a real gift of course!). last year my grandmother gave a mosquito net in memory of my mom to this AIDS project in africa.

but i mean your mom doesn't have to be dead for you to do a donation thing - you can give something like that in her name and then give the card to her. you can check sites like the UN and stuff who have a lot of gift ideas like that. the mosquito net was to protect babies orphaned by AIDS. so i think stuff like that is really cool and it ties into mother's day - like helping a child that doesn't have a mother. i think that would make most moms happy

Hey now... she got an A in History of Polka Dots

Anyway.... how do you ladies feel about mixing patterns? like floral with stripes? (both black and white)

clarification: dress is black and white floral, bolero-type-thing is black and white horizontal stripes (big stripes), 3/4 length sleeves

^ That's another one of those things I think is a really cute look when it's done well in magazines or something but then I put it on and I feel like an idiot.

Is it big-pattern floral or small-pattern floral? I feel like if it's big and simple it could be cute.

this is the dress:

but the jacket is big, simple stripes I guess you could say

the stripes are about this size (but the jacket doesn't really look like this):

I might just have to use my better judgment later when I actually try them on together

After Wolfy put up her dresses I went shopping yesterday and got 3 dresses.

1. http://www5.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?DeptID=50455&CatID=51772&GrpTyp=PRD&ItemID=188be74&attrtype=&attrvalue=&CMID=50455|51280|51772&Fltr=&Srt=&QL=F&IND=34&cmVirtualCat=&CmCatId=50455|51280|51772 in black

and boo the other 2 aren't on there. One is very similar to 4^ and then I may just have to take a picture of the other one

Thanks for the heads up on cheap and cute dresses!
