He's recruited and missed other jucos. Jucos tend to be hit or miss. Dez Lee averaged like 20+ in juco. The competition level is so different that I think it makes scouting difficult. Also going after transfers and grad transfers has proven to be really effective and is even better than jucos since those guys have D1 experience

I'd just run pick and roll with Cat and the Martins all year. The high post doesn't work when your big guys suck, and it completely takes away driving lines for Cat.

Only real gripe coach wise was putting Kirk in the game. Barely had burn against lower opponents and you throw him in the fire as we are trying to come back? Promptly dribbles off his knee on a fast break and throws up one of the worst college 3s I've seen.

Guys went 1-1 too much but really we had some open shots and the biggest issue was missed layups/screwed up fast breaks. And Rowan was just terrible tonight

yeah i agree. gott's even commented a couple of times something like "i'd love to get shaun some more playing time"...but this sure didn't seem like the best time for it. we haven't had a ton of mop-up duty so far this year, but i think there's still been better chances for kirk to get some PT than last night

it's pretty common for beasts with huge hands to suck at free-throws (even pros) no matter how much they practice. i'm much more dissapointed in the inability of our "bigs" to make easy lay-up/put-backs. it's looking like we might not have to worry about abu going pro after the year.

I think Cat was in a little foul trouble, hence Kirk playing. Since we have absolutely no other guards on the team, we sort of had to play him.

I think/hope Cat's foul trouble is why he played tentatively. He got that early offensive foul on a drive and started shooting jumpers after that.

I think we still have a shot at making the tourney but Rowan is going to have to start making more shots and Abu needs to provide some scoring down low. I don't think Cat is playing like a freshman because he is not making a ton of mistakes but he just needs to be more assertive but it seems like it is not in his personality.

Kirk's fast break told me all I need to know about how he's not ready for primetime yet

and not sure about Abu. He was great the first 5 games, then even in the Winthrop win (game 6) he only played 14 minutes, then only 13 minutes against Michigan. Wonder if the limited minutes are something off-court

Thank you. And it's one thing to be potential NBA lottery pick material and NGAF about FTs, and then there's someone like Anya, who will most likely have very little chance of playing in the pros.

Maybe, but he's (abu) still starting. I think a more likely bet for his recently dwindling minutes would be because he's been sucking and missing multiple lay-ups/put-backs early in the game.
