^^i'd prob give you $1000 for it after i sell my turbo miata. i don't want to keep it, but i'd like to ride a 2 stroke for a few months, then re-sell it. i know that's a lowball price, but i'm throwing it out there.

1981 Yamaha 400 Special. Runs great, starts on first kick. Bike has tipped over a couple times so exhaust loose, minor dents, broken turn signal. Never dropped while riding, though. Bought to get my motorcycle license, don't need anymore. No title. $400

i thought it was possible to get a title if you get a vehicle that doesn't have one...or is it not possible with motorcycles?

JBaz, did you talk to your friend? I'm gonna take a riding course in a few weeks but I'm most definitely interested in getting a bike now. I'll be looking at a few new sportsters in Charlotte this labor day weekend, but I don't know if thats really what I want for my first bike. I mean the price is nice for a new bike but still a bit above what I'd be willing to spend on a bike I'm likely to drop once or twice.

Because everybody else does. The issue perpetuates, and further illustrates that the vast majority of people want to be cool just like everybody else, in the same manner as everybody else, and that these people have shitty taste.

May be shitty taste, but that's the shame shitty taste that made me want to drive a mustang instead of a civic. Just something about raw muscle in a car or bike that I like. Didn't hurt that I greq up around them either. Its in my family, and last time I checked I didn't have to look cool for my folks, its just something that I enjoy.

But, no need to justify the fact to you. Don't want to start a debate, just sharing the way I feel about the subject.

Because they want a heavy cruiser instead of a crotch rocket.

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of guys on Harleys who do it solely for the way it reflects on them. The most important part about riding one is not buying into all of the bullshit associated with it.

I ride one because I like the styling more and I like cruising more than I do speeding around town. I actually thought pretty hard about getting a Triumph, but when it comes down to it, I want something that is bigger and weighs more that I feel comfortable driving for hundreds of miles at a time. Ideally, I would be riding a vintage BMW, but then reliability goes out the window.

i just bought a 97 honda magna for $2,500, its a great heavy cruiser, it was a third as much as a harley, looks incredible, and the thing i like about it, it has ungodly power. i can't keep a rear tire on the damn thing, i dusted some kid on an old school ninja on capitol with it the other day, and didnt even get into it that hard, the low end torque is just crazy. i was shifting into second a block away, while he was still winding up to 10,000 rpm to get in his power band at the end of the intersection. my shit's got power from 1,500 rpm through 10,000. magnas are overlooked as performance bikes, cause they have a "sleeper" cruiser frame, and most people have never ridden one. so after all this, why would i waste money on a inferior bike like a harley, and have to give up speed for comfort?

^^imo that's a fair price for the ninja. damn idiots have been paying too much for bikes this season driving the prices up. i remember seeing a ton of mid-late 90's sportbikes for 2-3k last year. now you see fools listing 85 shadows and shit for 2500.

^^yeah, i thought about picking up an old V-Max to play with until the '06 model sportbikes come out.

and i didn't know Magnas were that fast...I knew they were fairly strong, but I didn't know they were right there with the V-max.

a modern 600 will still utterly DESTROY either one of them, though.

well, you know that there are choices besides Mustangs (heavy, archaic suspension) and Civics (no balls, front wheel drive)...there are plenty of imports that handle 100x better than a Mustang while going faster and getting better gas mileage to boot. Again, a lot of it is the image thing...just like a HD.

and Harleys are some of the slowest bikes on the road. my dad's nearly 1000 lb Gold Wing will smoke most Harleys. If it's "raw muscle" you want, you're looking in the wrong place with a HD (sure, you can hot rod a Sportster into being pretty fast for what it is, but if it's "raw muscle" you want, look somewhere else).

1998 CBR 600 F3 - $2500
http://raleigh.craigslist.org/mcy/94247647.html

I want to make things clear from the beginning that this bike is not a show bike. It has been through a couple accidents, but is currently ridable. I have put several hundred miles on curves and interstate since i put it back together. Mechanically it is in excellent condition.

Here are the specs:

* 1998 CBR 600 F3
* 15433 Miles
* Salvage Title in hand
* Gas tank is professionally painted red
* everything else is spray painted yellow
* tinted windscreen

Perfomance

* Full Vance and Hines exhaust (header and slipon)
* Stage 1 jet kit
* Corbin seat (red/black)

Recent new parts

* chain and stock gear sprockets
* Dunlop D208 tires front and rear
* front brake pads
* radiator fan switch
* brake and clutch levers

Things this bike needs to ride:

* NOTHING!

I also have a large arai helmet with clear and tinted shields (yellow, silver, black), a size 40 tecknic leather jacket with liner (yellow, silver, black), yellow/black leather gloves, another helmets for passengers, an extra set of upper and lower fairings that need some bondo, extra oil filter (or will change oil before sale if you want), few other misc parts, chain cleaner and lube, etc that are negotiable.

I will allow a test ride if you bring $2500 cash deposit which will make the sale final if you wreck the bike.

It would appear I've been set straight regarding "raw muscle." Perhaps there is more to the "image" than I would have liked to admit, but recognizing it as an image doesn't depreciate my longing for one any. That magna does sound pretty attractive, if I saw one for sale I'd take a look at one, especially at that price.

Does the engine hold up as well as other imports? (less maintenence?)

^^^^^yeah, i'm not a Harley hater, but when it comes down to it, you buy a HD because it says HD on the tank (and it has killer resale value). that's pretty much it.

Alright, before I go see the bike, does a V-Star have any "muscle?" Looks like a nice cruiser from the picture I've received but I've seen a few Yamaha cruiser-style bikes around campus that sound like BMWs (not quite rice-burner, not quite muscle).

if you want a power cruiser, get a Yamaha V-max, or a Honda Magna, Valkyrie, or VTX-1800, or one of those other bigass power cruisers on the market now (but i'd go with a V-Max or Magna, b/c they aren't quite as huge)

just left a message for this dude. called USAA, got a loan approved. might have a new bike soon, although i really wanted a green one. if he'll come off the price a few hundred bucks, though, i'll buy it and switch to green bodywork/tank sometime down the road.

^Too good to be true, and in my experience with ebay that means it not only isn't, but its probably realllly bad. It just so happens I'm desperate for a bike at that price, so I gave up my preference for a cruiser and e-mailed the guy about it. Still haven't heard back.

actually, after looking at it further that might actually be legit. from his feedback, there appears to actually be somewhat of a pattern in his buying (not just random small crap to build feedback). he doesn't have any buyer feedback though. i'd still be pretty cautious, maybe it's a rebuilt or theft recovery. still be worth more than $2500 though.

It's a scam.

The guy doesn't list the item location because he doesn't want anyone in the region to buy it and expect to be able to show up with cash and pick the bike up in person.

Ships worldwide...For free? Yeah right.

$2500? Yeah right.

Someone's account got hacked and this guy is hoping he can post the auction and get the money before they notice.

Although it looks suspicious, it is listed as free shipping only within the United States, which makes the offer significantly more reasonable.
