I see no reason to believe the timeline of the Locke/Kate/Jake stuff matches exactly with the raft stuff.

Also, I've checked both polar bears and see no symbol.

I refuse to check all those boar.

I doubt it - Desmond seems like he was put into the hatch on purpose, for testing or whatever. Hence the reason he was in good physical shape, they probably needed a good specimen. Plus, how long ago did Jack meet Desmond? I believe it wasnt all that many years ago, didn't the french lady come like 16 years before?
