I really have a good feeling about this one Felton is going to absolutely dominate Paul who can't play defense to save his life. The Hornets are going to spiral out of playoff contention after the all-star break just like they did last year and it's going to be the Bobcats that start them off.

This topic is so stupid how can you expect for one season to be in a thread I mean NC State gets so many threads why can't we have game threads for bobcats??!
Here's my breakdown:
Okafor will have to deal with Chandler's tough D but chandlers lack of offense will enable Okafor to play lots of help defense and stuff Paul and Mason when they come dwon the lane. West is a onedimensional jumpshooter we shouldn't have much problem with him unless Chandler is cleaning up all his bricks. Wallace is 100x the player Mason is.
The only real threat on the Hornets is Peja and he's been injurd all year. They start a free agent scrub they picked up this month named Devin Brown who seems pretty pathetic.
I predict a Bobcats blowout. GO CATS. 2/19/2007 7:31:15 PM |

i agree with what you said, but i doubt its a blowout
and as far as putting one season in a single thread...
this is an NC State message board, the majority here doesnt care about the Bobcats as you can see by looking back through and seeing mostly the same people over and over again...
people do however run up long threads for every state game, and as you can see, the Cats have played 40+ games and this is a 15 page thread
now if you were to divide the number of posts by the number of games you would find that you would just have many single page threads floating around and getting bumped down, where as you can get all the season info they want in this single thread...
so keep posting new ones if you want, but i promise you they will get locked... so just keep your fucking thoughts and you n00b ass in here and we can talk bobcats all you want, i would love to have more people to talk about it with. 2/19/2007 7:37:14 PM |

Quote : | "Jordan writes state of Bobcats letter to fans
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte Bobcats part-owner Michael Jordan says he's disappointed with his team's record this season and vows that management will "spend what it takes" to attract top talent in the offseason.
In a letter to be mailed to season ticket holders this week, Jordan went into detail about the state of the team for the first time since he bought a minority stake last June and was given final say in all personnel decisions.
The Bobcats are 19-33 this season -- last in their division and fourth worst in the Eastern Conference.
"As excited as I am about the future, if you know anything about me, you know how much I hate to lose -- and I speak for all the owners in that regard," wrote Jordan, the team's managing member of basketball operations. "But we are able to temper this disappointment with thoughts of our youth and inexperience, and the idea that we will continue to improve -- hopefully, more quickly than even we expect.
"With that said, we remain committed to our plan to grow the franchise through the draft and the addition of key free agents."
Despite his iconic status in his home state of North Carolina, Jordan has remained behind the scenes in Charlotte. He has not talked to local media in nearly nine months and even instructs arena staff not to show him on the video board during games.
His stance has left many wondering about the franchise, which has struggled to win over fans since the Charlotte Hornets' ugly departure for New Orleans in 2002.
Some fans worry that majority owner Bob Johnson won't spend enough money for players to make the team competitive. The Bobcats, in their third season, largely avoided last season's free agent class and have the lowest payroll in the NBA, by far. In addition, leading scorer Gerald Wallace can opt out his contract after this season and become a free agent.
"As widely reported, we currently 'enjoy' the lowest payroll in the NBA -- which in essence means we have the most salary cap room in the league," Jordan wrote. "And it is our intention to spend what it takes to attract the 'right' talent to our team, whether through free agent signings or trades. We will add players that not only will contribute on the court, but fit into our hard-working and team-oriented culture."
Jordan didn't mention Bernie Bickerstaff, the team's coach and general manager, in the letter. Bickerstaff was hired to run the basketball operations shortly after the Bobcats were formed, but now must run all decisions through Jordan. It's unclear whether Bickerstaff will return in either role next season.
But Jordan did applaud moves made before he arrived -- including the drafting of Emeka Okafor, Raymond Felton and Sean May.
Jordan also believes Adam Morrison, Charlotte's first-round pick last year, will develop into a solid NBA scorer despite shooting woes this season.
That is the hope for Jordan, a five-time MVP who won six NBA titles in 13 seasons with the Chicago Bulls and is now getting a second chance at running a team. He was hired as president of basketball operations for the Washington Wizards in 2000, but fired in 2003 after the team struggled.
Jordan says this time he wants to focus on basketball and not be part of the "dog-and-pony show" of marketing.
"I write this letter not only to provide you with an update on the status and direction of the team, but also to ask you for your continued support and commitment," Jordan wrote. "We not only need to keep our team's solid core together; we need to keep the nucleus of our fan base together, especially our season ticket holders -- the lifeblood of our future.
"So, please maintain the same drive, passion, and commitment that I have. Work with me and the entire organization to help our team excel beyond all of our dreams and expectations. It won't be easy -- greatness never is -- but, with dedication, effort, and teamwork, I am confident we will get it done."" |

A few days old, but did anyone watch the Rookie/Soph challenge?
There was no defense, as expected, but Morrison was lighting it up regardless. He displayed his normal array of "HOW THE HELL DID THAT GO IN?" shots, but he was definitely the best player on the rookie team. I really think he's just trying TOO hard to be the Bobcats main scorer, and forcing his offense (thus his shitty FG%). Hopefully he'll take himself a little more lightly and let the game come to him the second half of the season.
Also from that game, I think it was pretty clear that Chris Paul > Ray. As much as I love Felton, Paul completely controlled every aspect of the game when he was in there. It was awesome to see Paul throw an alley-oop to Felton, and then Felton return the favor later on -- esp. since they're both maybe 5'11. 2/20/2007 2:45:47 AM |

When they're both healthy Paul is better...but Paul has been injured half the year so Felton is worth more in that sense...also Felton has improved more since last year than Paul, partly due to him getting a lot more starts over the injured Brevin Knight...time will tell, they will both be solid players for years to come barring injury 2/20/2007 2:58:26 AM |

so his points and assists per minute went up as well as his FT% (by about 5%) and assist to turnover ratio, and the Bobcats are better...yet he 'hasnt improved at all' since last year2/20/2007 10:17:17 AM |

He's improved as a PG, but not as a scorer IMO. For some reason, he's not finishing when he gets in the lane this year. He's as good as I've seen at penetrating and passing out, but when he takes his own shot, it seems he barely misses it every damn time. Luckily Wallace or Okafor is usually there for an easy put back, but Ray has got to start hitting the easy ones. 2/20/2007 12:30:45 PM |
hunterb2003 All American 14423 Posts user info edit post |
he will, but Morrison NOT being that automatic scoring option we need, hurts Ray i think in what he feels he needs to do with the ball
our team could be really good in transition if we wanted, and ray is of course great at high tempo
we need someone he can rely on as the 2nd or 3rd pass out of the double team or after the penetration in the lane to hit the open jumper 2/20/2007 12:33:48 PM |

Not really fair, since I don't even think Felton was starting at this point in his rookie year. But I definitely agree I saw more potential in Ray at this point last year than I'm seeing from Morrison right now.2/20/2007 12:34:11 PM |

Damn, I would have at least thought Morrison would be hitting more than 70% of his FTs. Was he that bad in college? To be revered as a shooter/scorer, he really needs to hit more of the gimmes.
Interesting that Felton is shooting better from downtown than Paul.

no way we're making the playoffs this year.
7 games would be completely impossible for us to make up. Theres more than one team ahead of us too.
We just need to position ourselves the best we can for Oden/Durant 2/20/2007 6:25:29 PM |

yeah, definitely not making the playoffs this year. but I don't think Oden is what we need because he reminds me too much of Okafor (a defensive oriented player).
Durant would be great, we could use his scoring ability, or Brandan Wright who has a chance to be a pretty badass player himself.
Hopefully we can make a splash in free agency or with a trade this year because we have so much cap room it's ridiculous.2/20/2007 6:29:36 PM |

will oden really be that much better than okafor? i mean they're both great shot blockers, athletic with some upside. i'm just trying to put oden's supposed dominance in context of the nba 2/20/2007 6:34:27 PM |
rallydurham Suspended 11317 Posts user info edit post |
I dont think Oden will dominate at all.
Its just that its not that easy to find a defensive presence at center that also has offensive game.
He's a sure thing and i think thats why everyone is excited.
You have to remember Okafor is a good bit older than him.
It obviously depends on what team he goes to but Oden looks like a 12 ppg, 9 rbg, 2 blk his rookie season.
Contrast that with the stats of another promising 19 year old center Andrew Bynum...
Okafor isnt a true center and he has trouble staying out of foul trouble because he has to leave his feet a lot to make up for his lack of size. If we could pair the two up at PF/C we'd instantly become the premeire defensive team in the league and we could let Wallace/Felton really go all out gambling for steals. 2/20/2007 6:40:26 PM |
arog20012001 All American 10023 Posts user info edit post |
but don't you think we're somewhat limited offensively? A Double O (okafor/oden) front court would be pretty impressive defensively, but we'd still struggle on offense. Okafor might not be a true Center, but I think he serves the position well.
We need a star 2 guard or a dominant 4. I'm still pushing for Durant or Wright.

to be a homer, i think a good comparison for wright is chris bosh coming out of school. they were about the same size, with the same athleticism. bosh had maybe a better mid-long range shot, and wright has a great hook and jumper from about 7-8 feet. after 2-3 seasons i don't see any reason wright won't be an nba starter 2/20/2007 7:07:31 PM |

i've seen wright handle the ball pretty well, has a decent face up game and has made some really nice passes this year. add that to his defensive skills, post moves and rebounding abilities and i think you have a solid power forward.
