When the water temp drops real low I will wear a float coat and float bibs, but it was 72 degrees in the stream.

you need to head east. they're catching limits of trout everywhere and that boat is perfect for it (if it's what i think you said you got)

Got off to a late start because of mechanical problems in my boat, but luckily my dad is a mechanic.

After working on it a while, etc. we finally got the boat put in at 230 pm. Knew we didnt have much daylight left, so we decided to head to a wreck 15 miles out to try for some schoolie kings. Wound up with our limit (6) at 430 and quit with two kings over 15 lbs. Pretty fast and furious action.

One of the motors was running noticeably weak...water in the fuel filter. Damn ethanol gas these days....not good for outboards.

Once we got those replaced and checked a few other things we were ready to go...just takes so damn long to take the hoods off, check this and that, go to parts store, etc.

/crosses fingers....its all good now though. But running your own boat is quite a challenge...lots more work than I had imagined.

If we had been able to fish there all day, we could have caught as many kings as we wanted. Of course, if we had been able to leave at dawn, we prally would have ridden right over the fish on the way to my spot.

if you're already having fuel issues, be sure and winterize if you don't plan on running the boat this winter.

Leaving Fri morn and heading down to Portsmouth Island for a week of drum fishing. Heard that they have been slaying them on the north end. Can't freaking wait to get out on the island!

we caught one trout saturday

had fun though. i think the rain had the fished fucked up. they caught a lot in some other creeks that day where it didn't rain so much, but no one did really well where we were. lost 5 or 6 more, the few that did bite weren't hitting very hard. i'll post a pic when my gf sends it to me.

[Edited on November 10, 2008 at 3:11 PM. Reason : needs to stay cold. water temps are still kinda high.]

also, i just remembered that river where that pic was taken is not the river where he was caught...

i caught that fish in a creek off the neuse, decided to move when we didn't catch much more, loaded the boat and left him in the livewell, moved to a creek off the pamlico, and at the end of the day i released him in that creek. that pic was taken right before i released him

I'm down in Homestead at the race, and we are staying in a house in Key Largo. As soon as practice is over here in a few, we're planning on going out on a head boat tonight. I dont have any of my own tackle with me, but I've heard its a good idea to take you're own bait when fishing on a head boat. I was planning on going and getting a pack of cigar minnows. Any other advice on what to take? I've never fished on a head boat before.

^why? are you not going much? or just bad luck? fishing has been relatively great lately. you have a trolling motor on it? that's probably your first problem.

^ Some friends and I go every year...Bout 6 - 10 ppl...We go for the whole week so we only do it once a year. Next year we get there on Oct 30.

I am really considering a spring trip one weekend...and I may take the wife and kids over for a day this summer.

^^yeh, they were pretty nice and ready to deal. But once we verbally committed to buying a boat, the willingness to deal and the friendliness sort of died down. can't really blame them, but it was noticeable, and in the end, I'd recommend them to anyone else looking.

just gotta make sure you know what you want and how much you want to pay for it, then demand that, and the dealer will eventually get close enough to it. of course, that goes for any dealer or type of dealer

^I've missed the 6 or 7 times I've been on the lake

Might have to cancel my last trip of the year offshore...this damn cold snap has me shivering at the thought of going out...and the wind looks rough this Sat.

I wanted at least one more trip before bringing her home.

where you catch the sheepshead? we used to catch a lot at the morehead/radio island train trestle before they redid it in concrete. caught a lot on the dock pilings in taylor's creek too. always used fiddler crabs that we caught at morehead sports marina.

My husband and I have been catching alot of trout here in New Bern and Morehead but been having fantastic luck on Cherry Point. We caught some pretty flounders to. I keep hooking stingrays which pisses me off because I thought with the weather they wouldn't be out as much.

idk, i've never been on base there. i fish a creek (on the boat) that runs right up near the runway and we see military folks fishing from a little picnic area with a boat ramp.

[Edited on November 23, 2008 at 8:19 PM. Reason : have to be military to get there, so i assume it's on base]
