Sendek was run off by idiots like you. Also he uses non traditional players to fit in his system (horner is his recruit). Finally Sendek also already has a loss this season TO AN UNRANKED TEAM. Having watched ASU I would say that they are a mediocre ACC team at best. I prefer to reserve judgment until Lowe has his players in playing his style. You can continue foaming at the mouth and acting like an idiot but I am pretty sure that the Athletic department will also be prone to giving him a chance. However your lunatic idiocy can hurt recruiting. If you are gonna be one of the people who goes to games to boo the coach stay the fuck home.

how DARE I be upset that we are piss poor the last 2 years and looking straight in the face of it for a 3rd. Two more years and then Lowe will shine as a coach.

just look at the '05/'06 season if you're missing herb sendek. he was in his 10th season starting three seniors, a junior and a sophomore who was about to be a lottery pick. all his guys, all played his system, and all played it well. what's he do w/ that team? he loses to iowa, gets blown at at home by seton hall and a unc team chock full of freshmen, loses twice in a row to wake forest, zero wins in the acc tournament and one win in the ncaa tournament. and that's herb in a nutshell. 12/7/2008 4:19:16 PM |

This is such fucking garbage and you know it. These guys were top 100 recruits offered by some of the biggest names in the NCAA who run varying offenses. Fells is one of the most athletic players I've seen at this level.
They are talented players who should be able to play well in any system should the coach know how to implement it and get through to them. Lowe was left without a PG once Wright committed to the Hoyas and he made the egregious decision to offer Javi instead of Warren...

Thanks to Mr. Harden, ASU would be the third or fourth best team in the conference this year... no doubt.

I was actually pro Sendek because I thought he was evolving out of the 3 at the buzzer offense. He was recruiting big men who were actually traditional big men (ced simmons) etc. Ohboyee while the argument may be getting old it is the truth. Give it time then start your bitching. I have seen enough out of Lowe to think he may be able to get it done. Don't forget the out coaching of Roy Williams (and yes that was out coaching) and the ACC tourney run that was a couple decent bench players from being an ACC championship. 12/7/2008 4:23:24 PM |

Fuck yeah I miss Herb Sendek. I miss post season play at our BASKETBALL SCHOOL. Did I want him gone for a better coach? You can bet your ass I did. Instead we got Lowe who has no clue how to coach a college game. It is the head basketball coach's job to develop the players he has. It's not like Lowe hasn't been recruiting for 3 years either and has none of his players in.
He got Hickson, he fucked that up. That's a huge fucking coaching blunder to finish last in the league with a player as good as Hickson, Herb Sendek's players be damned.

The whole problem for me with this is that he didn't out coach anyone when Atsur wasn't playing.

if that were the case we would have won a lot more games against Roy boy with atsur at the point. There is a reason why after Lowe's first year expectations were high. Last year was a decent point guard away from being a good year. ^how many of those are point guards with good footspeed??

Well, Chris Wright was a commit and a true PG, but I blame Fowler more than Lowe for that gaffe.
Again, how is that not Lowe's fault to a degree? He made an error in judgment. Chris Warren was still available and was practically begging for a scholly offer from State. He gave it to Javi instead, who is borderline high-major bench caliber... at best.
That is the ONLY thing I'm being highly critical of so far with Lowe. Am I impressed with him as a whole no? But I'm not being critical of it because he is new to the college game.

Chris Warren was a big mistake if he had the grades to play in the ACC. I think we still had available schollies so I think we would have picked him up if we could have.

Just to be clear I'm not ready to run Lowe out of town (yet) since he's got some amazing recruiting prospects. Is he trying to polish a turd with our current roster? Of course. I'm not confident in his ability to make basketball players better.. Seems to me he just assumes they are going to be able to come in and be ACC caliber right out of HS... But to try and blame Herb for our shitty performance the past 2 years (and likely this year) is real fucking lame.

I don't blame Sendek for our performance but I also realistically know rebuilding takes a while especially if it involves a change in systems. I really liked Sendek while he was here and hated listening to people boo him at the RBC. If it ever gets to that point with Lowe (who won us a championship btw) I will pretend I didn't graduate from here. Last year was really the only year I think we underperformed and there were a multitude of reasons for that.

Also the argument that we don't have a good point guard holds no water at all. IIRC Lowe was a national championship point guard. He doesn't even have the ability to coach the fucking point guards to not turn the ball over ever other trip up the court? That's bullshit, and that is bullshit coaching. I get that you are trying to support the coach and everything, and he has my support too, but I'm just trying to be realistic in my evaluating him as a coach.

^thats ridiculous, just because he was a good pg means anyone he coaches will be one? so i could go out there and Lowe could coach me to be an All ACC pg...hell no, its all in talent to begin with. that argument you are trying to make holds no water. Jordans kids should hold every record in the history of basketball if thats the case!
andddddddddd
no, i dont think that Costner,Horner or McCauley would do well in a system with run and gun type sets
you let them play one year in a weave and heave system and then try and place them somewhere like UNC or Florida and it wouldnt work...you even saw that with the recruit Werner at Florida hardly getting any playing time and he was supposed to be a huge recruit here.
its been proven time and time again they dont have the athletic ability to compete against a highly athletic team...not to mention some have what seems to be attitude or focus problems.
and I by no means mean this for Fells, he has always been one of my fav. players due to the potential and athletic gifts the kid has.
I do believe we blundered the Javi recruitment and that is why we are where we are, that along with Degand having the Valvano injury curse that gets transferred every year here at State.

What? He averaged 27.5 mins a game as a soph and is the third leading scorer this year... he gets plenty of run... He didn't play much as a frosh (8.9 min/game) but that is to be expected on a team full of upperclassmen coming back off of a NC...
Quote : | "no, i dont think that Costner,Horner or McCauley would do well in a system with run and gun type sets" |
Horner, no. McCauley was recruited by high majors like Pitt though, which isn't a fast offense for sure but isn't a Princeton style either. I describe Pitt as "NYC-tough" type of play. Costner was recruited... by everyone.

there are def. changes in systems along with personnel. Kentucky should be a HUGE example.
tahts exactly what im saying...as a freshmen...he was supposed to come in here and do huge things...when if he transferred he was a role player and subject to bench time...but it took him a few years to DEVELOP into a good player at UF...that goes along with what im saying that even though you think we were getting great talent, in relation...it wasnt THAT great. not to mention Donovan runs a style somewhat similar to Herbs in his last few years...they both coached together as asst anyways.

One of the six average less minutes than Werner even during their freshman years... JJ Hickson wouldn't have even started on that team.

^ you have a case for gonzo getting better, but like you said he's not a top tier player and the improvement that he has displayed has been minimal at best, but I think that is from being put in the fire for ACC play as a true freshman really helped him along. I don't see Lowe overall making players better.
Look down the road at Lawson this year. He has drastically improved his 3 point shooting from his past years. No way I'm trying to compare NCSU/UNC at this point, they are worlds apart, but a good coach does make players improve during the time they are at their school.
And I'm still waiting to hear what Lowe did to drastically improve Hickson from beginning of the season to the end last year. *crickets*
