reinstall the graphics drivers manually. then theres something in control panel about performance you go to and let it run some tests..then it'll turn it on for you

or that's what i had to do anyways

Yup, need to have a proper graphics card ... those Intel Integrated Graphics cards don't support Aero ... because they suck.

^Actually, most Intel chipsets support the full Aero experience in Win7.

I would HIGHLY advise that you NOT upgrade the drivers from whatever comes preinstalled with Windows 7, unless Aero is off/broken out of the box. I've had to roll-back the Beta Intel video drivers multiple times (Intel drivers SUCK BALLSSSS).

^^correct. and to further clarify, i just downloaded the latest driver off the nvidia site and installed it and aero worked fine after that. win 7 said it had installed it on its own but gave me like a 2.0 rating on the performance index under graphics. after installing that latest drive it's at 5.0 which is still my lowest but high enough to get aero working

the OS works great! I'm running it in Parallels 4.0 on my MBP unibody. My only complaint is that the rest of the Mac OS X becomes a little slow even though I have Parallels optimized for Mac OS X and not the VM. (Windows 7 x64)

I couldn't get 7 to install on Parallels - it kept locking up immediately after the first screen of the installer.

This was with the RC version, too.

I'm pretty sure v4 is the version I bought when I got my MBP. Maybe there's a software update for it or something. I'll have to look into this.

Did you boot directly from the ISO file or did you burn to disc first?

I'm also having trouble with my 3 monitors sometimes. When it does what it does to ask me if I'm sure I want to install something, for instance, it blanks the screen for a second. A couple of times it came back up with only two of my monitors. I've been having to go into the device manager and disable/enable one of the video cards to get it working again. Granted I installed the ATI drivers manually, but only so I can turn off/on crossfire and because crossfire seemed to be enabled by default by windows w/o any way to turn it off. Maybe I was wrong and there was a way, but I couldn't tell.

for those of you that use UltraMon (and subsequently discovered it fails at working in win7)

check out DisplayFusion: http://www.binaryfortress.com/displayfusion/

it's awesome - i don't think i'm going back to UltraMon this time.

yeah, 30 day free trial of pro... and it's only $18 to buy.

that's in the realm of impulse buy for me; i have no problem paying such a reasonable price for something that helps me every day.

yeah, so far so good. Running it in seamless mode on Virtualbox. It's been so long since i've used a windows product regularly, that I don't even know what I want to do with it (beyond the 3 or 4 things that I need windows for (visio, and a few windows only apps built in house).

I do need more RAM though. I'm nearly maxing out my 2gigs when running all my apps. Is anyone running 6gigs on an MBP? is there a noticeable difference vs. 4GB?

With respect to:
Quote :
"3) I would have to start by dual booting, and Win 7 would go on the latter half of my disk. I did this exactly with Vista and it was a huge pain in the ass once I was ready to get rid of the XP partition on the beginning of my disk."

I fucked BOTH my Win7 and Vista partitions last night by deciding "Hey, GParted kinda worked before when I moved the one partition I want to keep forward on the disk, I guess I'll try switching my two partitions on disk!" Neither partition ended up bootable, and neither was even repairable with the installation disks (got to the point where it couldn't find any boot problems with either, but wouldn't run explorer.exe on startup). On the plus side, since Win7 installs itself so quickly and installs programs so quickly, I was able to get back up to where I was in the two hours I had before work this morning.

I also noticed the older available ATI drivers don't have this problem:
Quote :
"I'm also having trouble with my 3 monitors sometimes. When it does what it does to ask me if I'm sure I want to install something, for instance, it blanks the screen for a second. A couple of times it came back up with only two of my monitors."

So there you go, Noen, 7x64 is my primary OS now. HAPPY?!?!?!

I just found some problems when having multiple instances of Excel open. Can't really explain it but basically it's having a hard time figuring out which task bar which windows should be on.. It's fine for everything else though. Strange

Well if that's the case and 7100 is the RC...how many builds a day are there ? I mean it can't possibly be *that* old.

7201 was June 1st, so yes, it's 8 days old and most likely have a new build for this week already.

i'd assume they do 1-3 builds a day?

my icons chose to disappear on me, but i just right clicked on desktop | view | show desktop icons and they came back.

other than that and a couple of weird window resizing bugs (where you resize a window on the bottom and your mouse goes over an icon on the taskbar it does some weird window draws) all is well.

^I can't talk about any of that. Suffice to say, as I have many times in this thread, you should stick to public releases. Unless you have been given a private build for a specific fix from a Microsoft representative, there is no value in installing these leaked internal builds.

You lose all support and update compatibility with non-public builds, and there's a very high chance that it may not be release quality, or may contain viruses, trojans and malware (as there's no way to verify the authenticity of the image).

speaking of resizing, when you move a maximized window, is it really supposed to snap back to the same spot when you release? If so, why even allow the window to unhook?

if you move it far enough it doesn't snap back

nvm.. in the original version i installed it worked how it should (i.e. would kind of "un snap" when you moved it..) but it seems to be snapping back all the time now no matter what.

wtf

Anybody know why the fuck a process called "system" keeps taking 50% of my resources for no apparent reason? Some days it doesn't do it at all and sometimes it's constant.. like right now. I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary. I can't do anything when it happens..all windows lock up completely..even the mouse locks sometimes.

install ProcessExplorer and see if it gives you any more information about what started it.
