For those who were wondering why the Joker didn't get a mention, here is Nolan's reasoning:
"I felt very strongly that The Joker was off-limits. I don't want to trivialize a tragedy like that by explaining it away in some fashion.
"I made the choice immediately that talking about The Joker was off the table. It's just the way I feel about it, based on my relationship with Heath... That's what felt right to me." 7/23/2012 12:01:51 AM |

After watching TDK again tonight, I can't really see how it fits in story wise . The first and third (Rises) are definitely in the same story sequence, but TDK is just on another plane and really doesn't interact with the League of Shadows storyline at all like the other two movies did. Not that I don't like TDK, quite the opposite, but it seems to take away from the feel of a trilogy as a whole. 7/23/2012 12:15:01 AM |

I didn't mind or miss the no joker mention at all.
It was easy enough to infer the toll it had on the city.
Why was ras as gul 's gang so intent on destroying Gotham though and not the whole state/ country? 7/23/2012 12:15:37 AM |

For anyone curious, the reason behind bat man's limp (aside from general combat wear) is probably because of the fall he took at the end of TDK when he tackled Harvey Dent and could t control his fall after saving the kid. 7/23/2012 12:44:15 AM |

LOL.... that was the most realistic part of that scene. The only thing more realistic was that both planes had engines and pilots....
it was still fun to watch though....

Overall, I enjoyed the movie. Thought it was a satisfying end to the trilogy.
That being said, my own personal gripes: - First 1/3 of the movie felt rushed to me, as if the story was jumping a bit. - In the final battle scene, you have two heavily armed camps equipped with a pretty large number of semi-automatic and automatic firearms. Yet the instinct for both side is to bunch up into two tight columns and charge each other to engage in melee (only thought is they were trying to rush the tanks, but still...) - Wish Nolan had played a bit more on the two ends of social terror: both the decadence of Gotham and its elite at the expense of suppressing the masses and the Jacobian mob terror that came afterward. As one commentator had put it, The Dark Knight captured the psychology of terror and violence, the Dark Knight Rises seems to capture more the sociology of it. 7/23/2012 1:26:20 AM |

LOL. My biggest gripe so far has been wondering how Bane's mercenaries could realistically hope to keep the people of Gotham from covertly fleeing, even IF they had threatened the soldiers at the blockade. This is where my suspension of disbelief went completely out the window. Is Gotham entirely on an island, then? There certainly are going to be a lot of boats on an island of that size, then. (Think New York.) Wouldn't be too difficult for some random person to just go jump in a boat, sail away, and then the mercenaries are left looking like idiots because they can't just blow up the city now to back up their threat. I mean, what are they going to do? "Hey, um... one got away. Call for the detonation." It seems like a pretty hollow threat, especially when stretched out over a 5 month period. You mean to tell me that NOBODY escaped in 5 whole months...?
I just feel like the bomb was a pretty weak plot contrivance. 7/23/2012 1:32:34 AM |

^ I think it's pretty clear that a few stragglers are going to get through, but by and large, the threat of nuclear detonation is enough to keep the vast majority terrorized.
It doesn't take much to keep people paralyzed with fear. 7/23/2012 1:35:32 AM |

I have a friend who complained significantly about the opening scene being unrealistic. This was mainly due to ropes going straight down from one plane to another even though they were going full speed. It was also the way people were able to move freely in the lower plane. I thought this scene was OK as your basic crazy movie action sequence.
On the other hand, the writing in this movie was fairly bad at points. Tons of plot holes and nonsensical points that made my mind explode. The Avengers didn't make mistakes this bad. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight didn't make mistakes this bad. This was promoted as a masterpiece, and it was anything but. It wasn't nearly as bad a X3 Last Stand or Spider-man 3, but it left me with similar feelings of dissatisfaction (albeit with a much better ending).7/23/2012 10:41:55 AM |

Same thing with the Girl with the Dragon tatoo trilogy.
I also think that my only gripe with this movie was how predictable it all was. From the autopilot to the prison escape to the bomb to catwoman using guns to etc...

The prisoners all being locked up without parole, thus the general feel and culture of the city being different (war vs. peacetime) was a direct result of the Harvey Dent Act. The Harvey Dent Act came to fruition because of the criminal actions of TDK, the face/voice/hero that Harvey Dent was, etc. If the craziness that took place in that movie doesn't happen, an act likely does not pass. If the public found out about that Harvey Dent became Two-Face and what he did, it probably wouldn't have passed. Thus, Batman taking the fall for everything Dent did was necessary for the people to stands behind that type of justice. Without the peace, maybe Batman doesn't retire.
I see that it doesn't tie together in the sense of why the bad guys are doing what the bad guys are doing necessarily. But the films were strongly tied together. More specifically, this movie (specifically the culture of this Gotham vs Gotham in the Begins and TDK) could not exist without TDK story.

Oh, and the scene where Miranda Tate is slowly playing with the detonator using her thumb while also slowly stabbing batman and speaking in her sultry accent was one of the sexiest "non sexual" thinks I think that I have ever scene in a theater. That was awesome/ 7/23/2012 1:20:55 PM |

Well yeah, but besides that I thought he said it was both knees. It seemed there was something else wrong with him to make his knee a big problem to where he fell without the cane (when Catwoman kicked it out from under him). When he fell in TDK he got up with some bad injury, so that seemed legit to me in addition to cartilage problems.7/23/2012 5:34:47 PM |

The last 20 minutes were great, and the prison scenes were good, the other 2+ hours were pretty underwhelming. Nolan is a pretty shit screenwriter though. Income disparity is a pretty good topic to bring up, but being the hack he is he only knows how to go about it in a heavy handed, obnoxioulsy obvious and a lazy way.
An episode of Breaking Bad has better character development, dialogue etc etc. Nolan makes smart movies for dumb people, always has....but action was pretty cool
Quote : | "I also think some of you people are being a little over critical of a comic book movie." |
Nolan is a self imporant fuck who tries to make a comic book movie a dark/gritty crime drama that has an overt and blantantly obvious social commentary.
