http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Maurice-fired-Kirk-Muller-hired-it-8217-s-OK-?urn=nhl-wp18424
Quote : | "The only reasons Kirk Muller isn't already a head coach in the National Hockey League are (a) because he isn't the strongest interviewer, according to sources, and (b) because teams with openings last summer wanted someone with head coaching experience.
Apparently, two months in the AHL were all it took for Muller to find his sea legs. He arrives in Raleigh as, arguably, the best (former) NHL assistant coach that's yet to get his shot in the big chair.
Rutherford could have played it safe, staying within the family with a Dave Lewis or a Ron Francis — perhaps he even attempted to do so. But in hiring Muller, he makes a smart, bold move that should have other fan bases a little jealous — especially in Montreal." |

This is a great hire. He had a ton of buzz around him when he was on the Canadian's staff and it always seemed like he was more in control of their bench than Martin. I was surprised when he didn't get an NHL head coaching job this off season.
Also, he was a big reason as to why the habs had such a good power play while he was there.

Rumors are that Bobby Ryan is being traded out of Anaheim. Also rumors that Toronto is not where he is heading.... I don't know that we have the pieces Anaheim wants... but it'd be cool to see him here. 11/29/2011 1:04:19 PM |

^^ Maurice is a good (not great) coach and a good guy. This has never been debated.
Beyond that, WTF would Troy Bodie know? Maybe he tweets with one or two younger guys who hadn't tuned out Maurice, but he's not in the room. He's in fucking Anaheim. 11/29/2011 1:12:37 PM |

What would it take to get a Bobby Ryan, seems like it'd probably be a high cost, but potentially high reward and possibly worth it. 11/29/2011 1:18:11 PM |
brownie27 All American 3030 Posts user info edit post |
Well, depending on just how bad Kaberle really is... I mean I think the potential is definitely there, and they did swing for Ozo from us a while ago.. and IF Anaheim wants him and IF they will pay for him... then I could see Kaberle and someone in Charlotte going. I think Dalpe is shoppable/moveable because we do have fairly decent depth at the center position not only in the NHL, but with Bowman and Nash in Charlotte.
I still would not be surprised to see Boychuk go, either.
[Edited on November 29, 2011 at 2:02 PM. Reason : Ozo actually went to Florida, my bad] 11/29/2011 2:01:36 PM |
GenghisJohn bonafide 10252 Posts user info edit post |
what depth at center? We have Staal and Sutter. Jokinen and Ruutu would most likely be better on the wing long term. Boychuk and Dalpe aren't going to likely be centers at the NHL level, and Skinner probably won't be either.
Bowman is a winger. Nash may work out, he did have a good camp according to reports. Oh and I forgot about Rask -- looks like he has a high likelihood of working out.
Dalpe is perhaps our best chance prospect at making an impact
no way in hell we make a major move like picking up Bobby Ryan right now. Just can't happen.
[Edited on November 29, 2011 at 2:08 PM. Reason : we'd have to lose something like Sutter + Dalpe and add on to that for Bobby Ryan]

Let me clarify my stance here for you Gheng... I don't think it's going to happen, just presented a scenario that I thought MIGHT fit.
I did mistake Bowman as a C, when he is a LW... but you did mention Victor in Calgary. So I would still contend that the depth is there.
It's all contingent, of course, on the next few weeks with Muller... and if Ryan is being shopped, I don't think the Canes are front runners. So I would agree that it probably can't happen... again, just presenting a scenario 11/29/2011 2:16:47 PM |

I think depth means a lot more than potentially being able to fill an entire nhl roster.

I agree there... something as simple as Rod not winning faceoffs a year ago, and the same has been true with Staal... it's like, "why not move them to a wing for a bit?" Not my best example, but see if you can roll with it.
So they may be listed as C's, but are a better fit on the wing. You're right. 11/29/2011 2:27:40 PM |
GenghisJohn bonafide 10252 Posts user info edit post |
but i completely understand the hope of trying to get someone like Ryan. Staal and Ryan would be awesome as shit.
hopefully admiral kirk will let the kids play and we can see what we have there.
Maybe Pitkanen+ for Ryan would work. But me loves Joni.

maybe they'd go for it, but they'd probably want someone who could step in now. already have their young powerplay ace in Fowler. Plus while I'm sure Murphy's concussion will end up being ok, I think other teams would like to see him back and playing first. (Though he did get an invite to WJC) 11/29/2011 2:37:29 PM |

Kaberle is worthless.....at this point, he's taking away minutes from our young guys and he's a poison to our team. Drop him and eat the salary. Won't be the first time a Kaberle gets paid for doing nothing. 11/29/2011 9:29:52 PM |

For those not on twitter... there were scouts from Dallas, Chicago, Toronto, LA, Vancouver, and Colorado at the game tonight.
My imagination, which I have admitted is nuts, is that many were there to see Kaberle. Obviously not a good showing from him, but being scratched one game and getting scouts in for this game really smells like he is gone.
I also think Rod was on the bench for cohesion tonight, not as a permanent figure. I'm sure gheng will put me in my place, but those are my rantings for now. 11/29/2011 11:03:16 PM |
