i was in car for 5 min earlier listening to David Glenn...he said Dykes "interviewed" this morning and that he's on short list but not the only candidate.

Glenn is usually the most accurately informed person along w/ Giglio on these things.

Feelings about Grantham as a candidate? I love a great defense, and we def. need a great recruiter ... but then we would still be searching for a quality guy to run the offense as well, which in my mind would be the more difficult hire.

Both of those guys are offensive masterminds, but I'd much rather have Dykes since he's actually led a college team than Morris, who's only been a head coach on the high-school level.

With either hire, though, it really comes down to who they put on their defensive staff. I'm not worried about the offense.

^ I don't think it's so much a matter of us being willing to pay for a good DC, but rather if Dykes is going to be able to draw a good DC (and if so, whether he will).

I think Dykes has some similar upside to Godfried in that we can give a lower initial salary with some really specific incentives that give us an easy out... so I think that's good.

I think she interviewed Morris just to see what it would take to get him away from Clemson. His asking price is probably more than Dykes, so I figured Yow would take the cheaper option so she could spend more on coordinators. I'd actually be surprised if she let him bring his assistants from La Tech, esp with the 118th ranked D.

^^Yow can say what she wants. She basically told TOB he needed to change DC's and be more aggressive in recruiting and he told her "no" and she told him to take a hike. Yow encouraged Gott to invest in solid coordinators. I bet she'll have some names to suggest or at least suggest he picks new coordinators with more familiarity to the area and recruiting.

After past debacles, it would make sense to line up targets you KNOW you can get first, and get some agreement on terms, and then throw a longshot or two out there towards your best case scenario targets at the end to see if you have any bites. That way, if they say no, you don't have the media swarming on those rumors for a few days, but can call a presser that afternoon to announce the previously agreed upon candidate.
