These are ranked within categories in no particular order.
I will say, though, that Bender ALWAYS did better than the QBs he had to replace due to injury.
Barnett was also similar to Glennon in that he got little to no support, except from his receivers. 7/25/2014 11:05:55 AM |

^ I respect that you go way back in your fandom like I do, but that is simply not true about Bender. He was not close to the caliber of Terry Jordan, who he replaced one year due to injury. Bender's first game was legendary though. He replaced Jordan early in a UNC game after Jordan broke his arm. Threw a TD on his first play and lead us to victory.
He might be the best legitimate back up QB we've ever had, unfortunately he was quite mediocre as a full time starter .] 7/25/2014 11:12:06 AM |

Glennon belongs in the top list. Dude had 2 really good seasons, we just were spoiled from the Wilson years and probably don't appreciate his efforts enough. Glennon was working with a sub-par team and was the only reason we were in a lot of those games.
Much like Wilson did, Glennon carried our offense at times. The difference was that we actually had a defense for a season or two with Wilson.
P-Riv was surrounded by a much better team, for at least half of his career. 7/25/2014 11:37:04 AM |

Nah.
Glennon was a VERY GOOD player, top 6 or 7 all-time NC State qbs. In my lifetime, just behind Eric Kramer, and certainly not an icon like Rivers or Wilson. 7/25/2014 11:44:28 AM |

i think it's fair to say that rivers and wilson are in a class by themselves.
glennon would definitely be the 3rd best on that list, but there is a noticeable drop off from the first two to him. there is also a noticeable drop off between him and whoever you would rank as 4th.

In Kramer's defense, his Junior year stat line was much better...threw for about 700 more yards, 3% better completion % and he had a positive TD/INT ratio. 7/25/2014 12:08:59 PM |

He's held in very high regard to fans of that era because he (and mostly Sheridan) were the catalyst for one of the best periods of football in it's mediocre history. (starting in 86', yes no titles)
And he helped produce probably our most anti-ncstate shit football moment.

best part about arguing which one of our middle tier QBs is better...is that guys like Shane Montgomery and Geoff Bender would have been in the conversation of "best ever" had they played at UNC.

So, I remember the 1993 and 1994 seasons better than 1991, and Bender had to replace Harvey in both of those seasons. From the looks of things in 1994 (the better of those 2 years), he very well might have been better than Harvey had he gone full time. Harvey threw a lot of INTs on his own.
Found this from 1991. We were 6-0 going into Clemson. Bender beat UNC, GT, and Marshall going in. We had a shot at the ACC title going in. GUESS THE OUTCOME??? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGKitbKHk8M
Finished 9-2 with losses to great Clemson and UVA teams, which would be great if not for...the full NC State Shit New Year's Special: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0qAhTt5aHk7/26/2014 6:15:09 PM |

In 2010 we had a pretty solid defense and offense and lost 4 games in which we led in the 4th Q, best team in recent empty and we could've/should've been so much better. The. In Glennon's first year we lost Irving on the defense, but due to a single injury (to Manning) we had no viable backup at LB due to TOB's terrible recruiting/depth and lost games solely because of that injury.
TOB's 3rd and 4th years are so damn frustrating. Glennon did great considering our o-line & running game virtually every year under O'Brien were complete shit.

This directly relates to NC State football since we play them every year and they are our main in-state recruiting rival...
UNC had 4 football players dismissed from the team for mostly academic reasons. Most of the hits have come on the d-line, which they are already razor thin at. There are also two more big time d-line guys that are on the edge as far as making it academically (one apparently is appealing an honor court decision). If those guys don't make it, they might be 225lb walk-ons and converted o-line guys in the defensive trenches. It could get ugly.
They've also had two recently 4-star decommits. One is a safety that has already switched to Alabama. Another is an O-lineman who we are/were heavily involved with (McGirt). While committing back to UNC is a possibility, it appears to be a two-man race between us and UGa now. He's really good friends with a RB prospect of our (Hines), and apparently they want to play together. So that's that. Always nice to see high ranked players decommit from UNC...but icing on the cake if they end up switching to us.
Fuck Carolina. 8/3/2014 10:57:34 AM |

Not that we're deserving of any attention at all after last year anyway, but I really like how this team is flying under the radar with no expectations or scrutiny from the media in the preseason.

"flying under the radar" is usually a pretty stupid thing to be happy about. I can see players or coaches using it as motivation, I guess. But from a fan's perspective...don't you want to be talked about on a national scale? I know as State fans we're used to disappointment, and maybe we've been trained to be pessimistic over the years due to failing to live up to expectations and coming so close, but falling short. But let's be honest. There's nothing fun or inspiring at all about not being talked about on a national scale and coming off a 0-8 conference season. I understand the sentiment...maybe we'll surprise some people. But holy shit that's a low bar to shoot for. 8/4/2014 3:51:24 PM |
