Trump's quote...
Quote : | "“Maybe we should boycott Starbucks. I don’t know,” he said. “Seriously, I don’t care.”" |
Quote : | "The 'seriously, I don't care' was probably an indication that the previous statement wasn't to be taken too seriously" |
I disagree; I think he was just giving himself a bullshit out if someone calls him out for what he said. Like his John McCain war hero quote:
Quote : | "He's not a war hero. He's a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren't captured...Perhaps he's a war hero, but right now, he's said bad things about a lot of people" |
To the extent that I've been keeping track, Trump seems to have a pattern of making an outrageous claim and following it up immediately with a softer claim that he likes to focus on should he be called out on the initial comment. The most famous example:
Quote : | "When Mexico (meaning the Mexican Government) sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you (pointing to the audience). They’re not sending you (pointing again). They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems to us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists...And some, I assume, are good people!" |

So can anyone explain the current "issues" with the economy that the republicans always bitch about???
Unemployment is low... CEO's have never been richer... The DOW is at record highs.. Real Estate, unless you live in the rust belt or suburbs of a gentrifying city with no population growth, has bounced back... I don't think effective tax rates have increased for anyone on the federal level since bush...
Does Trump plan to buy everyone a F150 if he's president or are we all going to be in the 1% if Chris Christie were elected. 11/10/2015 10:51:35 PM |

^^Too much big government regulation is good for big businesses and the rich while it is strangling small businesses and the middle class.
Last night's debate had as much populism as i've ever seen from the party. From big bank bashing, to bashing of corporate accountants avoiding taxes. Big business was the bad guy almost as much as Obama last night. 11/11/2015 9:43:45 AM |

Big Business wasn't the issue brought up last night, it was "crony capitalism". I would think even the most liberal of TWW would agree that the government shouldn't be imposing laws that will protect only large organizations at the expense of open competition.

^ that was a bit of double speak though, because he talked about a prebate for people making less than ~36k. It's standard "fair tax" type plan that shifts the tax burden to the middle class.
Just saw this debate got 12 million viewers compared to more than 23 million for the previous republican debates.

^True, but's a general problem with the entire process. Any of these guys are only going to have deep knowledge of 1 or 2 things, and they probably don't know much more than anyone else for the other aspects, and probably less than some people here. I kind of chuckle at their back-of-the-napkin tax plans that would obviously never work... a 3-page tax plan? Really Fiorina? She should know better. Not sure how they think the biggest economy on earth, the richest country, and probably the most pivotal economy to the world, is going to tolerate a little smacking around with half-assed tax plans. The debates really are useless, we need something else.
I think we should make them work together on a "group project" on TV, i think we'd learn more about the candidates that way than these debates. 11/11/2015 11:11:21 PM |

Just caught where Ben Carson described our slavery driven economy as an "atmosphere that encouraged entrepreneurial risk-tasking and capital investment". I'm guessing he's just saying this because he knows his supporters won't question it. He doesn't seem to make any effort at all to incorporate facts into his viewpoints. It's almost surreal how he just says well articulated platitudes and no one questions him... and he's the GOP frontrunner. 11/12/2015 1:20:34 AM |

I don't think you get it. They want a bad tax plan because they don't want taxes. They want to break the government because they don't like government. If they have a terrible tax plan that doesn't bring in revenue then guess what they have to do? Cut government programs. Oh wait, thats what they want to to do in the first place.
Keep everyone scared so that military can't be cut then you have to cut medicare, medicaid, social security, planned parenthood, obamacare, food stamps, education and all that other stuff that relies on public funding which they always complain about. 11/12/2015 10:07:44 AM |

Obama was a state senator for 7 years and a US senator for 4, you can certainly compare that to a surgeon with no public office experience or a hotel owner with no public office experience (fiorina also has no public office, but at least she has experience in politics), or a state solicitor for 5 years and US senator for 2, or a US senator for 4 years

I'm always tickled at all the moaning and bitching about Obama's "lack of experience," I've heard several people even used the nick-name of "Junior Senator" in a derogatory way, yet the two top candidates for the GOP nomination have 0 political experience. I guess we could group Fiorina in there to make it 3 of the top 5 candidates (unless you count Fiorina's failed state level office attempts after being fired from HP).
Lack of Experience only matters if there is a -D next to your name.11/12/2015 4:53:39 PM |
