^agree...similar game plan when we beat them last year at chapel hill. just didn't have the depth and skill to do it this year. they are simply better and deeper than we are. paige, brice johnson, justin jackson...we held all those guys in check and well below their averages. meeks killed us. and we weren't knocking down 3s like we would have needed to to win yesterday

Yeah, the game plan was clearly there yesterday. Some early fouls against our bigs made it so the defensive aggressiveness had to be reeled in some in the 2nd half and that helped lead Meeks to break out. I'm not sure we would've scored enough to keep pace with the offensively in the 2nd half anyway though.

Good on Gott's part to have kept the team motivated to this point, but seeing Maverick and Caleb Martin out there shooting the ball this season has been rough - zero offensive perimeter threats outside of Cat. Was glad to see Cody Martin get more minutes yesterday - at the very least him playing means we'll see less of his brother and Rowan putting up those 3/14 shooting performances.

There is a very real chance that we don't win a single conference game this year. That is 100% on Gott. And I don't think it's something he should be allowed to survive in year 5. Recruiting a couple studs means nothing if none of them are around two years later.

^yeah pretty much, even worst case. we've lost 4 of our 5 games by single digits. the double digit loss was a road game at a top-5 team by 12 points. it's extremely unlikely we don't put together a decent 40 minutes once in the next 13 games

The fact that we basically have to hope the other team fucks up in order for us to eke out a win is the point, and it's why I say it's a realistic chance. There's only three teams that we might be able to beat, and we've already lost to one of them. We couldn't put a decent 40 minutes together against UNCG, for fuck's sake. That's not good, and it's a reflection on Gott.

Look at yesterday's game. We win if Meek's doesn't show up. No team has as many options as UNC and usually if paige, johnson and jackson don't show up, they lose. Getting Henderson back will give us another guy that could go off and win a game on any given night.

Its not really relevant. I'm by no means trying to say things are good by pointing out the likelihood that we will win a game this year. 3 wins vs 0 wins are both unacceptable.

Next year Gott is going to be under the microscope.

It is hard to think of going anywhere but up from here. I know that we will unexpectedly loose somebody, as this always happens with Gott, I just hope that this limited to Cat and we retain everybody else. We can't hope for a 1:1 swap with Dennis and Cat, but we will certainly be in good hands with the rest of the newcomers.

I think we may as well just sit Henderson the rest of the year maybe try to get a medical redshirt? No point in having him risk reinjury just to come back for a few meaningless games. This season is a loss already may as well get guys like Kirk some playing time and figure out how to make sure next year we are competitive again.

yeah the medical redshirt is not really in play because he sat out last year due to transferring, not an injury. you can get a 6th year if both years you sit out are due to injury.

yeah, that's pretty much how it works.

(it's 5 years to play 4. the only exceptions are if somebody has 2 season ending injuries, and even then they aren't always granted.)

Abu's been pretty good this year, especially of late. i think fans, myself included, had hoped for a bigger improvement from him this year...and that was simply expecting too much. he's progressed like you hope a guy would from year 1 to year 2. i just think we had too high of expectations for him.
