not picking on you in particular, just a good quotable line there to sum up the discussion on the previous page.
this is incorrect on android phones as there is an 'awake' state even when the screen is turned off. if you're a spare parts geek/user, you'll know what i'm talking about. even when the screen is off, background processes can keep the phone awake like music streaming/playing, etc.
i know the OP wasn't referring to that, but i just wanted to clarify. didn't want to say it in an egotistical way, but the only reason i did want to clarify was because when i read his post, i did wish there was a way to make my phone go to sleep for real instead of wait to figure out which apps were keeping it in wakelock after the battery drained out for a few hours)12/14/2011 4:27:07 PM |

Anyone want a gently used Thunderbolt? I'll probably run by a Verizon store at lunch to play with one. Doubt they'll move my upgrade date from May and 5 months isn't worth opening another line so don't think I'll be buying one. 12/14/2011 5:55:01 PM |

so I forgot, will the gnex have all the samsung shit or will be a google run thing? i've heard a lot of complaints about samsung phones, and I thought it was due to the samsung ui/software 12/14/2011 6:06:03 PM |

it's a GED (Google Experience Device), aside from the 3 Verizon apps (which you can disable), the OS should be straight up pure ICS from Google.

Still curious how the OTA updates will be handled. It'll apparently be supported in AOSP but no one really seems to know if the updates will come from google or the clusterfuck that is Samsung. http://groups.google.com/group/android-building/browse_thread/thread/90c844f8eae5e4a9/f777946fdc2a5dbd?lnk=raot#f777946fdc2a5dbd 12/14/2011 6:23:47 PM |

AFAIK, it's Google, they're the one that responded to the volume bug fix and rolled it out: http://www.theverge.com/2011/11/29/2599218/google-galaxy-nexus-volume-bug-fix-will-be-rolled-out-in-the-coming/in/2343007 12/14/2011 6:36:58 PM |

I never really got the waiting in line thing to get the newest device. All I can figure is that they must be egocentric assholes who think they impress people because they got the newest device within minutes of the release. Some "hey look at me" people. 12/14/2011 6:52:30 PM |

My guess is there will be a line of 10-20 per store, but will quickly die down. Luckily I have a Radio Shack right across the street from my local VZW store.
^Uh no, it's to ensure you get one before they sell out... unless you're an Apple fanboi in which case the above might be true.
I've been without a smartphone since August. So I'm getting impatient. I'm not desperate enough to camp out, but I have no problem getting there a bit early (~30 min.) so I can get in and out of the store quicker. It's either wait in line outside the store or wait in line inside the store.

^^they never sell out until they quit offering the device. sure, they may go out of stock at the very beginning of sales (due to the rushers), but within a few days or maybe a couple of weeks, they get more in stock. there really isn't a limited number of devices.

We've been waiting on this phone for a long time now, I think it is acceptable to be eager to get your hands on one. Just this once 12/14/2011 7:09:12 PM |

Yeah I was there bright and early for both Evo launches because of the hype surrounding the devices. Definitely just wanted to finally get my hands on one.

the more apt question would be why wait? so i can save 30min. and delay getting the phone for a couple weeks? then the next question is, why shouldn't i just wait 6 months until the price comes down? then why do i need a smartphone at all. in the end waiting just isn't worth it if you're going to start using it day 1 and seeing the immediate benefit. 12/14/2011 7:22:15 PM |

1) any chance of them selling it for cheaper in the next week?
2) will ordering it online let me skip sales tax? or is the Verizon price after tax? 12/14/2011 7:48:28 PM |

I'll probably have my Evo 3D up for sale in the next day or two. Switching to Nexus S for a bit to fuck around with NFC and ICS.
2 aftermarket batteries and an OEM. Best Buy's Seidio innocase with the gel/skeleton and an extra screen protector from Phantom Skinz. Paint rubbed off on the bezel like a quarter of an inch under the case for some reason. I guess somewhere around 225 is the going rate? 12/14/2011 11:18:24 PM |

Gonna run to best buy at lunch to see if they have any since it's right down the road and don't feel like driving 15 miles to cary just to look at it. GoogleNexus twitter said Best Buy and Verizon stores today so we'll see. 12/15/2011 10:51:53 AM |

Well didn't see any on display at Best Buy and couldn't manage to find anyone free to talk to but found one at the Verizon kiosk inside the BJ's in Garner. Way thinner than I expected and ICS looks even better in person. Did notice a little lag here and there even after closing the apps so not sure if it was just a fluke or they still have some bugs to work out. Those soft buttons and no menu key would take some getting used to. Nice phone though for anyone that doesn't have an LTE phone but not sure if it's worth the $300 price tag if you already have one. 12/15/2011 12:23:06 PM |

went to my local VZW, about 15-20 people in line, moved quick, got in/out in 30min. sounds like they got a decent stock, but expected another shipment in a couple days. you can buy it online with free overnight if you want as well.
love this phone!
much better feel in hand versus the RAZR, screen is gorgeous, lightweight and thin, and i'm loving ICS, pretty sick

For some reason I'm unable to add my Facebook account to the Sync on ICS, anyone else having this problem?
Ah, looks like its disabled on ICS:
Quote : | "By default, although the Facebook app is available for use on Ice Cream Sandwich handsets, it doesn’t support integration of Facebook friends with the new People app in Android 4.0. Officially, that’s down to Facebook not falling in with Google’s data policy, with the fact that the previous behavior “created a false sense of data portability” as contacts were updated with information but those details couldn’t then be exported off the handset." |
