Why do these assholes commit, even verbally, if they are unsure about going to the school? I could understand if we had a coaching change or some kind of extenuating circumstances, but there is absolutely no reason to commit if there is even a possibility you might change your mind b/f signing your LOI. When I went to college I applied to several schools, weighed my options after hearing back from all of them, and enrolled at the one I thought was the best choice financially, academically, and socially. I didn't change my mind later for no apparent reason. What the fuck is the difference?

Because the nature of college basketball recruiting is that if the kid is any good at all, he's got 10 different scumbag adults all trying to tell him where to go and what do starting when he's 13 or 14. You try making a decision when you're 17 years old and you have your AAU coach telling you one thing and your uncle who played 2 seasons in the NBA another thing and so on and so forth. That's before you even have to deal with all of the college coaches lying their asses off to get you to come to their school.

what team have you been watching? we need any top talent we can get. and i know there's all sort of chatter that "he's not that great", because he shoots too many 3s or is lazy in some of his high school games. but that's not necessarily how he's going to be playing once he gets here.

I can't believe people can complain about the team's performance in one breath, then dis a projected top50 recruit that's verbally committed to us.

You should probably look at some of the recruits other schools are getting in. Playing alongside Bledsoe and one of Selby/Knight at UK along with Orton and whatever other 5-star players they get in is probably pretty appealing to. It's not like we're bringing in the Fab 5 here...

^^ maybe because we've been burned before by Top 20 recruits with horrid attitudes (Wilkins and to a lesser degree Costner come to mind -- and these guys had half the baggage Cothron does at the same point in their career).

I've heard chatter that Bledsoe won't be back next year. Not that it matters, he'll just be replaced by another top 20 recruit instead

To be fair, people have been down on Luke since before he committed to us, while he was committed to us and after he was "committed" to us. Certainly, guys with issues like his have succeeded in college before. But do you really think our coaching staff is equipped to properly motivate him?

What "issues" does he have, other than the several high school transfers? I think alot of the "headcase" issues come from media stories that often time don't even quote him or present any real "facts", but interject their own commentary about what he's thinking (like the link above). There was the one statement where he basically said he wanted playing time his freshman year, but is that really unexpcted from a highly rated recruit? Harrow has said similar things. I think most high school recruits say similar things. And then there's the chatter about "lazy" and "too many 3s", and that may be legitimate, but he's playing in high school games. He obviously has a lot of potential.

I really don't know the guy personally, nor do I know Sid and staff personally. So I don't know if they are quipped to properly motivate him, but I'd like to see them try. After all, as Cothron has said multiple times, he committed to State because of the head coach. And I think we'll be to the point next year that if he shows any sort of prima donnna attitude, Sid's got enough talented big bodies to sit his ass on the bench.

^I know, I've kinda been keeping up with the stories. Perhaps his lack of playing to his strengths and desire has to do with his HS coach? Maybe he's got personal issues going on with his life and he's lost focus on his HS team? He's still a kid. Maybe once he gets out of HS and realizes that jacking up 3s and being soft in the paint ain't gonna get him into the NBA, he'll correct those flaws.

But any way you look at it, 29 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks per game this year ain't bad. No matter what you say, he's doing something right.

If he gets this in high school games and is "lazy" on the court, maybe he just doesn't feel challenged by his competition. When you're the number 13 power forward in the nation playing in a league where a majority of your peers aren't going to make it to Div I colleges anyway, you can sit back and put threes up because you can afford it.

Irving doesnt scare me. He'll be good but it's not like you can expect much else from Duke recruiting. I don't want them to get Rivers. He's JJ Redick with athleticism
