stfu about fanboism, seriously man...its old nobody cares. Not liking certain features has nothing to do with Apple you dumb fuck.
They make adapters to connect your iDevice to an HD display and I'm still not interested in doing that.
SD cards? really? I have 32gb why do I need removable anything? Thats just more clutter to keep up with.
I don't want to go out and buy an extra battery so I can swap out batteries. I'd rather have a slick hardware then have the added weight and panels to accommodate removable battery. Its not so difficult to charge your phone over night or have a car charger.
Quote : | "You're taking fanboy-ism to a whole new level where you assume that features were left out because nobody cares?" |
I've had phones with removable battery and storage. Up until the iPhone every one of my phones had these features. I only ever removed the battery to remove the sim card. And removable storage was a huge pain in the ass because I'd have to keep up with all my memory cards and if I wanted to listen to music I had to make sure the music I wanted to listen to was on the right card.
I'm sure you were upset when they got rid of floppy disks as well.
And I also have 'expanded' my iPhones storage to 200gb via cloud storage. I have access to my entire music library for streaming.
You guys might enjoy walking around with multiple SD cards, cables, etc. I'd prefer not to. I hear there is a phone that has all those features, the iPhone 4 is not said phone. So who's trolling?

I think most of it boils down to availability and pricing. I think if Apple were to use the new 64GB chips it would probably dry up the supply worldwide. The 64GB chips are just not mainstream enough yet. chicken/egg: since they aren't mainstream enough, they are not cost effective for Apple.

And I responded with 'Cloud Storage'
Before there was iPhone there was expandable memory. Had you asked me then what I thought of an SD card slot I would have said "I'm in favor of getting rid of it for a larger internal storage'
Also, not everything the iPhone has is great. It has video out. Again not a fan not going to use it. I'd prefer wireless sync and streaming.
Quote : | "that doesn't mean i won't miss some features, but that it fits my needs" |
I wish someone would respond with a serious answer as to why you would buy an iPhone when its lacking features that other great phones already have.
Its one thing to say 'well its just wishful thinking because said features don't exist' and its another for there to be phones on the market today with all those features. If I wanted those features I for sure would not be buying an iPhone. I can respect Stein and Shrike for their opinion because they would actually abandon the iPhone for another phone that has the features they want. Not just stick with an iPhone because its an iPhone. i.e. put their money where their mouth is

space being tight inside these devices, the main board has two slots. In the iTouch, both slots can be used (which is why they have a 64GB version -2x32GB) In the iPhone, one of those slots is taken up by the cell radio, so they have to make due with one chip. Not sure if it's actually an issue with physical space, or the whatever processor/memory controller they're using not being able to address more than 2 slots.

Cloud Storage is nice to have, but it's not the solution to the storage issue. I'll be damned if I'm going to sit there and wait for HD video to upload to the cloud every time I shoot with my iPhone.

We don't all have to agree. Just looking for some reasoning behind why some people like certain features. I have my reasons why I don't like expandable storage which i've already stated here. All I'm seeing here is "RAWR RAWR RAWR it must have expandable storage RAWR"

finally a reasonable response. I agree that uploading HD video will take forever especially on 3G. although the iPhone 4 has 802.11n now so uploading HD video to NAS or cloud storage through wifi might not be so bad. That being said, what are you going to do with your HD video if not upload it to youtube/facebook/pc? Sure you can output it to a TV but I'm thinking more large scale sharing with family and friends.

Oh noes! I made a mistake! Idc if you take it seriously or respond, I'm stating an opinion, not asking a question.
Anyway. The thing looks awesome, but the only really useful new feature that I saw that I've been wanting is the threaded email and multiple Exchange accounts, so I'm not sorry I sold my 3GS to buy an Android phone (still haven't decided which one ). The FaceTime thing is stupid, because it locks you to Wifi--if I'm on Wifi, I'm probably at home, where I might as well use a webcam--although that will probably be fixed with jailbreaking. But that's the sad thing with iPhones, ever since the 3G. They aren't good enough until you jailbreak them.
All that said, they're awesome at making people want their devices. I hate the app store and it's inability to let you try things out first (another missing feature with iOS4, and again fixable with jailbreak and piracy), as well as the lack of native turn-by-turn (yet another missing feature--gotta pay $80-$130 for non-native Navigon), but it still *looked* drool-worthy.

regardless if its removable or internal you still have the same issue of uploading it some where if you want to share the video.
Video being the biggest issue, music, however, is not an issue to stream if you host your entire library in a cloud.

thats up to the developer. Tons of games have a 'free' version for a demo.
The ability to provide a trial is in place, it just needs to be used more by the devs.

transferring via sync cable or sd card reader is really the same thing. You still have to physically connect to your computer. Which wifi-sync is a seriously lacking feature for iPhone.
Apple's cloud storage is not free. Dropbox, ZumoDrive do have free accounts that are limited in size. The benefit of dropbox and zumodrive is that regardless of your device (iPhone, Android, Mac OS X, Windows, Linux) you can still access your data.

to address the question of "why not switch":
between my iPhone and iPad, i have a lot of $ in apps
if the iPhoneOS was a terrible platform or the iPhone was a terrible piece of hardware I'd cut my losses and move on.
i'd like an FM radio (for the TVs at the gym), i'd like removable media (to quickly move multimedia without needing to have a sync cable or networking, i.e. in a hotel room), but that's not going to make me switch platforms. just stupid to own a great phone and have to use a $5 radio from big lots.
no one makes a perfect phone. i've been waiting for an iPhone that had a better camera, a flash, front-facing camera, native backgrounding, and it looks like it's here. good enough to separate me from my money. 6/7/2010 5:44:56 PM |
