in retrospect, after thinking about several of the hands

i'm running really well right now.


last night, i didnt have aces once, had kings twice, and got destoryed on both times, QQ 5 times, but never made it to a showdown, JJ 6 times, only one win, flopped a set.

however,

there were 2 distinct instances (one really bad) where i committed myself with a monster draw and had it come through on the end.

also, me calling off with suspect top pair against a mega active player with a weak kicker, or making some absurd reads,


all these add up to running really well and i hope it doesnt put a false confidence in me, in relation to the true strength of the game and my strengths as a player.

ive fallen into that trap before, and it's hard to get out of.

but sorta on that line

its nice when you make a $300 call with AJ on a ace high board on the end and not even get your chips out b/c of your read, and then as soon as you say call, their cards hit the muck.

such plays arent exactly suggested

i told hish about this one today,

i felt like a megadonk

but i had a read and went with it, and it worked out

active raise opens for $35 utg, 3 callers, i call on the button wtih 5d4d

sb calls, bb folds

flop is 4h 2h 9d

check, opener bets $100

i call, feeling he missed

sb pushes for anoether $160

opener folds

i think for a bit

and call

he had pushed on me twice with what felt like flush draws but i never had the balls to look him up.

sure enough, he had Ah 5h

so, i was behind, but made the right call with the price i was getting.

had to fade a whole bunch of the deck however, but did.

opener calls me a tirade of explitives, saying he folded JJ due to my flat call

I was called "the biggest donkey ive ever played with" yesterday

then from another guy "dude, you fish for EVERYTHING"

both of which i kinda liked.

oh, and im becomming to really like a smooth call on the flop with a big draw followed by a big check raise on the turn when flopping a big draw.

and by big i mean like 12+ outer.


but, on that note, played at trop yesterday since hish was in town playing there.

I dont think ive played there since i moved up here... word is they are building a new 80+ table room.. should be interesting. hopefully they get autoshufflers and new dealers... i swear they are the fattest, worst dealers ever.

i was in the 10 seat for several hours and had armflab knock over my entire stacks on multiple occasions.

plus if they open a new room, hopefully they can get some real action going.

having 4/8 be the highest limit game youc an keep steady, with 1/2 and 1 2/5 table going on a weekend wont cut it.

so anyways, there was this azn dude yesterday that was a total engima to me.

he played hard and fast, and just had this aura of invincibility

like everytime i though he was going to get nailed on something, it worked out.

like keeping on betting huge with top pair on a flushed and paired board and winning monster pots with it.

so here i am, waiting in the lurch for a big hand with him to get a nice pot.

on two occasions he had bough for $200, and built to over $2,000. he had left for dinner with ~$2300, came back a few hours later, rebought for $200, built up to over $2k, then a hand with me happened.

It was getitng late and I was stuck ~$500.

I just pulled my patented, once a night "pull your pants down on a really dumb bluff" move, after getting quasi tilty having KK in back to back hands only to have a 559,9 board with huge betting followed by a 667,7 board, with more huge betting.


so due to my ill advised "im going to represent a royal flush with an underpair to the board on a flushed, straightned board from the button on a huge RR by a bet from the CO in a 6 way raised pot" bluff that actually worked, i was thinking about a comeback.

so anyways

the "you're such a huge fish" guy and the azn are in this hand.

im in the 9, azn in the 3, the kid who didnt like me in the 10.

i limp with Ac 7d limpy limpy utg+1

kid raises to $25.

kid had a pfr of about 20%. i thought he was really bad at first then a few hours in he was making some very strong plays i realized.

azn calls, button calls, so of course i call.

Ac 3d 7s

bing.

i check.

kid bets $50.

azn smooth calls.

i just call.

kid looks over, "whens the big check raise comming from you"

(??????? how'd he know?)

turn is a 9s i check, kid checks, azn bets $75.

i pump it to $275.

as im putting it out kid says "there it is.... matter of time"

(wtf)

azn calls.

i have $330 left, and smoke push the turn

turn is a 7c.

very niiiice.

azn says, "i shouldnt call this, but ive got to. you got a boat?"

yessir, 7s full.

he had a set of threes on the flop.

in hindsight, i should have smelled out set.

every single hand where he flopped tpgk or better, he'd go bananas ont heflop in typical azn style.

this was his first smooth call of the entire day on the flop, and then to lead the turn on a non drawy board.

the story didnt add up, but i was too preoccupied with two pair to notice.

i got really really lucky.


very, very lucky.

but all in all, gave hish $600 for bonnaroo vip tickets, blew off $60 playing nickel slots while taking breaks, and walked out with $150 less in my pocket than i left with. so, after all, made like 5 bills playing cards.

not bad after being stuck over $750 in that game.

i swear, i just dont get how every timei playi make it a mission to go at least a full buyin down and then claw to get back.




it's almost like i subconciously play wilder at first to take a shot at buidling a stack to get deep enough to play as aggro and bossy as i like.

a 100bb cap buy at 2/5 kinda limits what you can do when you first sit down. i dont really feel comfortable untill im at like 750 or 8 with some moves that ill consider standard.

or maybe thats just me.

also, im beginning to worry about my eating habits during these long sessions.

friday:

granola bar at work.
went to an organic market for a rawkus salad bar for lunch with the group.
planned on eating on comp at borg for dinner, didnt.

had a few cranberry juices to quiet the stomach, then prly 10-15 heinekens until noon the next day.

then balled out with the 2 lb ginger scallion lobster, with kyoto udon at noodles of the world.

drove home, didnt eat dinner, drank a few beers at the bar, passed out.

was gonna eat breakfast at starbucks at the trop when i met up with hish, the line was too long.

got a flat assed RC and a muffin which i ate approx 1/3 of and threw it away.

untill a donut this morning, that was the last thing i had besides 3 red bulls and a cup of black coffee.

i do this same routine every weekend.

this could be the book ive been looking for for quite some time, thebook i was hoping that "getting the best of it" would be

concept: using quantitative mathematical concepts to relate qualitative issues from poker, and applying some advanced mathematics to poker.

well

advanced in relation to ev and pot odds calcs only.

i mean, someone with a HS calc class could decipher it, so its pretty basic, but applications and theory is what im interested in
