^^you mean to say
you cant have the conversation
because youre talking out of your ass.
there is a difference between having a 'system' move across zones and having a system that controls turning off weather and ticking it on in another place.
if you cant see that, then you probably shouldnt try to have this conversation.
youre grossly unable to even comprehend what i am saying. which explains why you have yet to tell me the assumptions im making, and ignoring me when i tell you why i think they have the ability.
Now have fun with your l33t 'hello world' program.
I actually wouldnt have minded discussing it, but you had to go and be a fucking dick in your first post.

I honestly don't see how a moving weather pattern would be too compicated. Everything seems to be already in place. I see 2 ways of doing it. The simple way is a simple binary on/off way. I.E. start in STV. Rain is On for 20 min. After 20 min. Rain is Off in STV, but Rain is now On in Duskwood for say time x. After time x, rain is Off in Duskwood and On in Redridge. In fact you could make it fun and make it snow instead of rain. I'm not sure how this is too complicated for the server architecture based on how it seems to be currently implemented. The other method to have a more dynamic rolling weather zone is to just treat weather as a large character and move it along a pre-existing Flight path (gryffons anyone?) and instead of casting a shadow implement a weather effect. Just my 2 cents. 3/30/2006 4:58:07 PM |

So now both Hakkar and Ony are all kinds of screwy. First Ony did like 6 Deep Breaths which is something I have never seen before. And last night Hakkar was fearing and MCing people off of the platform and they were falling through the temple. He would then chase them and reset completely. Totally sucked. 3/30/2006 5:08:33 PM |

Some people believe these glitches in bosses are an April Fool's joke from blizz. Chrom's Time Lapse now drops the MT to 1%, the world dragons are spawning every 3 hours instead of 4 days, Ony is fucked up. Too many bugs to be coincedence in the patch. 3/30/2006 5:36:11 PM |

I meant too many major alterations with no advanced warning to just be bugs from the patch. Unless these are all real changes which wouldn't be so bad actually. 3/30/2006 6:20:19 PM |

if they did it correctly then consistant global weather effects would be a completely server side ordeal. As with everything in an MMO all environmental variables are computed by the server and sent to the clients to render.
The client shouldn't decide anything.
Blizzard would probably setup another server for weather so they dont strain the limited resources of the world servers. Also, this would add safety in that if the weather system crashes it wont take the world servers with it.
The weather server could even be the same for all existing servers as it doesn't impact gameplay. At the moment its all simply visual so having the same weather in the same zone at the same time on all servers doesn't matter. So unless they want world event specific weather they could get away with one server. And if they build it right they could have one server to start for all clients and then point them to new individual weatherservers later.
The weather server would keep track of weather in all zones, and maybe all weather in all parts of all zones depending on how granular they designed it. All the computing is done by the weather server.
All the client does is poll the server and say "hay wat is my weather right now?" passing in location. Weather server checks the location and determines the weather and then hands it back to the client. The client then displays it.

Still pised that I have 8000 rep to be exhalted in AV and that the only way I can get the rest is from constant zerg killing. I had fun doing all I could to end AV. In AV on my server alliance always won and I always worked on hides or stealthing GYs to finish the games. I used AV to get honor and now that I have to just kill for the rest of my rep killed the game. Before I could help the team, and still get the rep. Now I have to choose between rep and trying to advance (with gaining rams riders or taking towere etc.) while my whole team farms for rep. Saying just win AV is easy, but when everyone is there for rep all that happens is a stalemate at the FoS... 3/31/2006 2:39:51 AM |

I think this is the imlpementation they're going for. Weather on in zone, then weather off in zone but limited to that specific zone.

See I don't think thats how the game system is quite designed. In fact, I have a nagging fealing that this wouldn't work in the least bit based on how environmental variables are treated by the game. The game world is actually very static and the crisp artwork does a lot to hide this fact. If you travel from STV, to Arathi, you'll notice exact points where the environmental texture changes not gradually, but instantly. Move forward one step, arid texture, move back, plush green texture.
I think weather tied to a zone operates in the same exact manner in that once you cross the zone boundary, weather effects cease completely. This pretty much defeats the purpose of having any type of rolling weather effects because as far as your game environment is concerned, once you cross a boundary and load new textures, its going to appear as if nothing happened.
As more zones come to have weather effects, you will perceive for all intended purposes, random weather patterns across the game world.
I suppose, eventually, when all zones have their weather conditions defined then what shaggar defined could and probably will be implemented. That is, the different weather effects might be sync'd in some manner.3/31/2006 10:13:54 AM |
Lokken All American 13361 Posts user info edit post |
^thats the exact reason i was saying it should be zone by zone. Tick off in STV, tick on in Duskwood. Nothing would actually move from zone to zone, it would just seem like it to the user.
you wouldnt see the clouds rolling across the sky into another zone, you wouldnt see the weather in one zone while youre standing in another, it would just give the illusion that the storm is 'moving'.
It would just be neat to say its not raining in arathi right now, but its raining in redridge and it was just raining in STV so its possible it could be moving in on arathi soon.

Quote : | " The introduction of Wisps allows a new and exciting game mechanic: permanent death. The ability that destroyed Archimonde is available to all Wisps as a racial ability. This power, Detonate, destroys the Wisp in an explosion of energy, sapping the mana of all surrounding adventurers, friend and foe alike. This should provide an extremely interesting addition to the many adventures of Warcraft, particularly when pitted against other players! Racial Traits:
* Detonate: Destroys the wisp, dispelling all magical buffs and draining 50 mana from each unit in an area around the wisp. * Gatherer: Skill to herbalism, mining, and skinning increased by 10. * Permanent Death * Treeform: Turns the wisp into a tree for 30 seconds. During this time, spirit is increased by 300. However, the wisp's chance to dodge or parry axes is reduced by 50%. " |
