Well, I cashed out of Party Poker. I'm sure I told the story somewhere about how I turned the $20 free dollars they gave me into over $1500 in like 4 months of $50 no-limit tables. Anyway, 8 months later, and about 500 really bad beats, while only making $250, I decided to try my luck at another site. I cashed in $100 on Pacific Poker, and already I have my account to over $400 (in a weeks time) playing $50 tables. There is seriously no question in my mind that Party Poker is somehow rigged. I don't know how, but I can in no way find it conceivable that I lose so may hands in which I am such an overwhelming favorite to win. I totally realize bad beats happen, but Party Poker is ridiculous.

I have heard quite a few theories on how it's rigged. Some people think Party Poker actually has players playing for them who already know the output of the "random generator". I find this one kind of unlikely. It seems like if they were going to fix things, they would have as few of people "in on it" as possible.

Another theory is actual computer "bots" playing against you all the time, serving the same purpose as the real people in the above. I kinda find this one a bit unrealistic too.

The one that I really really from the depths of my soul believe to be true is that they have some kind of macro that can deal out bad beats. Now what might cause them to install this macro on your account? Maybe if you start winning too much. Maybe if you cash out. Maybe if you talk too much trash and someone reports you. Basically, anything that causes you to either take money from their site or cause other players to leave the site.

But yeah, so now I'm on Pacific Poker. Not nearly as many features as Party Poker, but I am once again on the fast track, making the high percentage play and actually winning the hand.

I was playing poker with a couple guys last night, tournament style. My whole cards are A Q suited spades. The flop comes 10 J K, two spades, guy in front of me goes all in, I go all in, he turns his cards, he has pocket 7's, so everyone thinks he fucked, the turn comes 10 and the river 7, he gets a full house and I lose, not what are the FUCKING ODDS.

That's kinda funny. I was playing last night, a guy raises with 10/6 offsuit, one caller. Flop comes 236 of diamonds. 10/6 guy goes all-in, other guy calls, flips over KJ of diamonds. Turn is a 6, river a 10, so basically the same beat as you. I looked up the odds online, the 10/6 guy was like a 2.9% chance to win the hand.

Well considering I've made thousands from the site, along with a lot of the other guys you used to play with, I can not complain.

Oh and btw, do yourself a favor and research how random number generators work for those sites.

Why the hell would they care? They get the same rake no matter who wins.

The other night i was playing and my whole cards were A 10 dimonds, I raised $2 preflop and i had three callers. I was like what the fuck do these guys have. Flop comes 10 10 A. So right off im like hell ya fullhouse. So i check, and the other two check, next card is a J of clubs so i go all in, guy next to me fold then the guy across from me calls we flip and he had J 3. I had no fucking clue why the hell he called. The river was a J and he won Jacks over 10's. I couldnt believe it. What makes the odds even more ridiculous was a guy who folded had a J. So i got fucked out of $20.

PartyPoker does seemed rigged at times. I can't tell you how many bad beats I take when there is a preflop all-in and I have X-card vs. X-lowercard. The lowercard hits at least 40% of the time. Absolutely ridiculous. In order to win tourneys now, I have to build up huge stacks so I can survive a couple of bad beats.

Maybe it's because PartyPoker doesn't want their bad players to bust out. Maybe it's because after horrible beats, I type in the chat box, "Fuuck you, Mike Sexton, you fuucking asspirate. You and this ridiculous site can kiss my fuucking ass." Maybe Jim, myself and about 30,000 other people that complain about PartyPoker just have extraordinarily shitty luck.

I agree with Greg.

I have taken some seriously bad beats.... a lot. One of my favorite things to do is to tell whoever it was that made the play that beat me exactly how stupid they are, yadda yadda yadda. It is not inconceivable to think that PP could say to themselves "Hey, this guy is a nuisance, he could potentially drive away players, let's fuck him over." I mean seriously, they are located on some island somewhere, right? It's not like they are really gonna be subjected to any legal action anyways, so why not be as corrupt as possible to maximize your profits?

PP wants bad players. If only great players play and only great players win, then bad players will either go to another site, or lose once right away and then never come back. If you install a bad-beat macro, then these guys will win sometimes, think they are good, and keep coming back for more.

it would be fairly complex (with a large enough bankroll) to prove if they are cheating. It would require a lot of statistics and a lot of time to determine if the number of bad beats you're experiencing is within the acceptible limits of statistics.

I've played on party for 25-30 hours/week for the past 6 months. I keep meticulous statistics on my play, without the aid of a poker tracker. I averaged just under $9/hour during that time span.

I've supported myself with party poker and a part time job during that time. My main word of advice that I would offer is that poker skill is a relatively small piece of the puzzle for making money online. Patience, micro-management, bankroll, and temperament are my 2nd-5th most lucrative skills(in no particular order) when it comes to online poker. Poker knowledge/skill is obviously 1st, and it is of course essential.

I know that you have good poker knowledge/skill Jim, at least as much as me, but I think it is the lack of other skills that currently limits your online profits. You made $250 in 8 months, I'm dissappointed when I make that much in a week. I think part of it is that you play moreso as recreation, I play so I can pay rent. You probably like to chat while you play, whether you're winning or losing. I literally could not care less, I have too many tables running at once to stop and chat. When some douche bag make a terrible play and beats me out of a big pot when he was dead to runners on the flop, the last thing on my mind is the need to make them understand just how lucky he/she got or just how bad at poker he/she is. I just reload and play exactly the way I was playing before that.. tight/aggressive on 4 tables

It works itself out in the long run, trust me.

Switching to Pacific poker negates two of the biggest assets of online poker that you should be exploiting by now: A) you can only play one table at a time on that site and B) their bonuses suck. I've gotten by on a ~$9/hr success rate during my 6 month stint exclusively at party, but I have recently learned how to develop the most lucrative secondary skill of them all: macro-management. There are enough poker sites availible to effectively double my hourly rate due to reload bonuses, various other site specific incentives, and my multi-tabling ability(which is currently at 6, but I plan on upping it to 8 soon).

The way I see it, there are two basic ways to make a lot of money playing online: A) Being really fucking good. Having a superior understanding of the intricacies of the game, and the killer instinct to consistantly beat high limit/skill games. or B) Having average ability, but above average money management skills. Having an edge(however small) at low limit/skill games and the ability to exploit the merits of online poker, and thus your edge, the utmost extent possible.

I know that I fall into the second category, but I plan on eating very well this year. Then again, maybe all of the poker sites will conspire against me and somehow cheat me out of it all.

sorry about the long link, w/o html, i cant condense it.

basically after logging ~240k hands on party, the only real oddity is the low occurance of aces on the river, and a theory of more aces being dealt in hands. other than that, the distrobutions are all within epected ranges for card distrobutions along the flop, turn, and river.

what does this mean?

correct play will allow for correct expects. in the long run.

everyone gets nailed by downswings of deviations. hell, i got ran out of the house during the last party reload, with a net gain of $2.99 on a $300 reload bonus. was playing only AA, KK, AK, AQs, QQ, and JJ (25pl). out of the first 90 occurances i was dealt one of these hands, i won 4. only 4. I am in no way claiming any type of rigged cards though. The players at party are awfull, and that leads to wretched beats. This is what you should feed on in the long run. As for me, it twisted me up, and I'm taking a little break. Rereading SSHE, and some other books. Gotta find if theres a hole somewhere, and go back to limit, which is my forte.

bad beat stories help no one, just take it and run.

and jim, you really really should read SSHE. if you havent, then by god why.

You overplayed your hand. If you got raised 3.25x, what on earth could the other guy have?

By your play you left yourself no opportunity to gather information about his hand, and since it was online, you couldn't exactly watch his demeanor.

ok here's my badbeats for the night.

1) $20 buy in, got $12 left, blinds are $.25/$.50. i get dealt A/K offsuit. i raise $2.00 preflop right after the big blind, only two people call me. flop comes 33K all offsuit. i bet $2 and one guy folds, the other raises me $2. I go all in with the rest of my stack, knowing that no one would call a $2 preflop raise with anything other than pocket 3's which i disregarded by the unlikeliness of that. I'm hoping he calls, and he does. He flips Q/3 suited. Who calls a 4X preflop raise with Q/3 suited?! That's just retarded. i wouldn't even call with A/3 suited.

2) im totally pissed, and i buy back in. i raise $2 preflop with A/J suited. 2 callers. flop comes 29J. i bet $5 with top pair top kicker, and a guy goes all-in for another $3 on top of me. i of course call. he flips 10/Q. turn is a 5. river is an 8, he gets his straight and takes the pot. so ridiculous. who puts all of their money in the pot on a draw with such low pot odds?! Another retard move that pays off.

3) now im steaming. tilt is probably a better description. 2 hands after the last badbeat, i get dealt A/10 suited on the button, everyone limped in. i go all in with $8 left to just eat up the blinds, thinking no one will call, and if they do, im in pretty good shape. everyone folds, except for the guy from badbeat 1), the guy who called a $2 preflop raise with Q/3 suited. he calls me. he flips Q/J, so im pretty stoked. guess what the flop is? first card...i catch my 10. second card is a 9, third card is an 8. i see that there's no face cards on the table, so im like sweet!!! then the guy goes, oh i caught my straight! i couldn't believe it. he hits the straight on the flop. the same guy on the very next hand had pocket 3's, and flopped 33K. such bs.

When you will tards learn it is not rigged. If you play 4 tables at once 40 hours a week, then you go through like 7000 hands. The chance of three people having the flush is bound to eventually come up. Even if you play less it is still bound to eventually happen. With the way the guy played it was obvious he was beat after the 3 bet after the flop.

He had 11 outs. It was a shitty play, but he wasn't a HUGE underdog after the flop. For all he knew, you could have had A9 and in that case it would have been a coinflip.

That's about when I started too. I dunno. Maybe I just have the absolute worst luck in the world. I really don't think that's the case though. I think either the feedback letter I wrote them or the various shit I have talked while playing has to somehow correlate. In either case, I am up about $400 in Pacific Poker this week, and I plan to never even touch my chatbox.

Haha, I e-mailed PartyPoker and asked them to see copies of the audits that they are subjected to in order to "ensure a safe gaming environment." I explained that since they tout these audits whenever someone questions the integrity of their site, the gamers should have the opportunity to review these documents that prove how safe their gaming environment is. I mean, we should be able to see the official and objective proof, right?

They said, "No."

I know this isn't poker, but what the hell..

so tonight and I checked my email and some stupid casino that I had lost like $100 at last month gave me $5 free dollars for the fuck of it.. presumabley they were taunting me, because I'm such a bad gambler, and there was little risk of me doing anything with it

well I get on there and start doing $1 a hand blackjack until I'm at $10, then I go to $2 until it gets to $20.. etc

Well I keep upping the limits and eventually end up at $100. At which point I say, what the hell.. it's the house's money anyways, I'm pretty drunk at this point so I go to the roulette table and throw it all on black

20

I had a great session of poker too and made like $600 total tonight, I should go buy a lottery ticket or something

Hehe the conspiracy theorys are always funny. They wouldn't want to jepoardize all the money they make by trying to manipulate the games, etc. What do they care who wins or loses? They don't. They get consistent rakes that are much less than a casino charges. They make more money off those rakes cause more hands are played faster. So they don't want the cash to stop rolling in if they got caught cheating players somehow.

I've been tracking my stats for quite a while. All types of hands have been coming up just as often as you'd expect them to. I haven't seen any sort of anomalies. Sometimes you deviate from the standard but thats to be expected. With the number of hands you see in an hour you're going to see some crazy stuff happening. Thats because of all the stupid players out there that will play anything and call it all the way down to the river. In the long run, these players are the ones that will give you their money because of their playing style. You just have to be patient and not let them get to you either. Don't let yourself get dragged into a tilt situation.

So if you play smart and limit some of the starting hands you play, in the long run you'll win. Let the bad players keep forking over their chips. For the one bad beat they give you, you'll more than make up for it later. If things aren't going well on a table for a while then you don't have to stay there and fall further in a hole. Sometimes the cards just aren't in your favor. Just get up and move to another table.

I've seen enough crazy things play out in the World Tavern Poker games going on around Raleigh to know that you see the same thing online as you do in the real world. If you're still having trouble making money then you need to look at how you've been playing and adjust. I used to have problems with it at first but as I got more practice and read up on some strategies it paid off for me. Now I'm doing quite well and using the money I cash out to pay bills with.

Me and two buddies just finished up playing a friendly game, tourney style, $10 buy in to make it a bit more realistic.

Took about 1.5 hrs to get one person gone and on the second showdown hand hand I got Qc10c. I throw a modest raise in (2 or 3x the big blind I think) and get called fairly quickly.

Flop comes 3cKc7c.

He checks pretty quickly, I act a little and think about it for a few seconds and check myself.

Next card is X.

He goes all in.

I thought about it for a second and thought no way.

He flips em over and he had Ac5c.

^^ I second PP being similar to the free tourney's going on in the RDU area.

I lost on my first hand when I caught the nut straight, but got called to the river and the guy hit
a full house (I bet it all the way). I also had a set of 9s go down when I was called on an all-in off
the flop. One guy missed his 4-to-the-flush draw, but some douche playing top pair with a THREE
kicker managed to pull a runner-runner flush to beat us both.

I read bad beats on here and it sounds exactly the same. I haven't won in a while, but with beats
like ^ it's no wonder. You just suck it up and come back next time.

These posts are going to be kind of long, but it's pretty damn insane. I was playing a $30+$3 single table Omaha tourney and this Armandak guy was down to THREE chips with SEVEN people left. He just waited for the blinds to come around so he could be blinded all-in and take his chances, and he stayed alive through a bunch of blinds and a ton of hands. He ended up placing second to my first.
