whats a comic series as engrossing as the walking dead

the only comic i've really gotten into in years, I dig the character development and its has had decent story arcs IMO (I'm no where near a hardcore comic book head, though)

I have to say THANK YOU to the Uncanny X-Men writers for SPOILING a major character death BEFORE it actually happened in the Astonishing story line. This is what happens when your writers are not all on the same page. And, for FUCK'S SAKE, why, oh, why, did Whedon kill off Kitty, who was obviously one of his personal favorite characters? I mean come ON! We're about to turn Kitty/Colossus into the tragic on again off again pining for dead people romance that Cyclops and Jean is! Can't we just have ONE successful, happy romance in these comics? I think, of all people, Piotr deserves to be happy FOR ONCE.
So.
Pissed.

With the wolverine movie in production I can see why the wolverine centering here makes merchandising sense, but it still has such a broad caste that I think it will be good. As a kid I watched the x-men animated series and was a fan. I haven't ever seen x-men evolution series, but I was never a huge fan of the concept of turning all the characters into high-schoolers at the same school. This series however, with the largest adult caste, has promise.

Apparently "Wolverine and the X-men" is an animated series, slated at 26 episodes. The show is going to air on the nicktoons network. I'm curious as to what the intended audience is, because it looks really dark compared to a standard kid's cartoon show. Also, "Iron Man: Armored Adventures" is premiering on nicktoons as well. The premise there is a little different, because in this one Tony Stark is a teenager. I'm gonna hold out with Iron Man, but I'm looking forward to see how quality the X-men show is going to be.

There's a new spiderman series either out now or that recently came out called the Spectacular Spider-Man. I don't know about that one... I did like the old animated spiderman cartoon that had an electronic music intro. But the new x-men series still looks better than the new spiderman series. I think the spiderman series is on the WB or some other sat morning channel.

I'm thinking of getting a box at one of the places around here because I'm totally back into comics and buy 4 or 5 issues a month but still am kind of a noob.

My trades collection includes:
- Walking Dead
- Fables/Jack of Fables
- Sandman
- Marvels
- All-Star Superman, Red Son, Kingdom Come
- Astonishing X-Men
- Watchmen, V for Vendetta, The Killing Joke
- Captain America Ed Brubaker Omnibus, Criminal
- Runaways, Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina

I like Planetary, liked the Ultimates and Wanted by Millar, read Buffy and Angel every month, also get Walking Dead now when it comes out, and am interested in gearing up with Astonishing and Ultimate X-Men.

So,
what else is worth checking out/adding to the box?

^you could check out the Marvel Zombie stuff, its an entertaining alternate universe story arc with zombies. It started out as a one shot but had enough support to go for a short series so far.

I just picked up the first trade of Walking Dead. Does the story get better later into the story? I'm all about zombis so I'll get the rest, just would make me feel better if they get amazing later on or something. As of now the story and characters are very meh.

I just finished the first trade which ended with the stuff that happened durrign the winter at the atlanta camp. Sonds like I'll be picking up a few more this week.

I also picked up book 6 of Y the Last Man and book 1 of Transmetropolitan. Looking foward to those. No one effing told me that Trans is greatly influenced my Hunter S. Thompson would have picked it up ages ago.

Chapel Hill Comics just had there re-grand opening (they just moved up the street slightly closer to the university to a bigger store) & Halloween party. They had live music, beer, zombie caricatures, free comics, and free food catered by the Mediterranean Deli.


(I'm in that first overview shot but hard to see, in the 2nd shot the girl in the yellow raincoat, pink shirt, jean shorts, & hoop earrings is Jubilee, but she had her blue gloves off to eat)

(I'm 2nd from the left in our Multiple Man group costume, this is after watching horror movies on campus on a big screen just before heading out to franklin street.)

First 3 issues of Deadpool started out brilliantly. I picked up the fourth... and what the hell happened to the story which was building in the first 3?! The writers went in an entirely different direction, and not one which was remotely as interesting as in the first 3. My interest level has already gone from "must read" to "meh" in a single issue. Maybe it'll get more interesting... but I'm not hopeful.

Does anyone know any websites that keep track of TPB's and rate them. I found a bunch on Amazon and usually read up on wikipedia but they don't keep track of the newest ones.

I'm a little behind now reading Messiah Complex but I was wondering what happened to Scarlet Witch after she almost extinct all the mutants? I'm guessing that was the M day storyline but what was the civil war story line about? Just trying to catch back up with the x-men universe. Also wondering if anyone knew what happened to some mutants, Magneto, and Havok (apparently he is dead).
