^^we've already seen that sylar can at least survive being shot so he may already have some kind of ability similar to that. Also, while Claire can regenerate, its never been shown that she can regrow body parts, or reattach something that has been completely removed. if sylar were to "detonate" himself, there is nothing that indicates that he could put himself back together even with claire's power. unless of course he doesn't really blow up, just releases the energy, but then he wouldn't need Claire's power except for possibly protection from the radiation... 11/14/2006 9:25:32 AM |

I think sylar has only one power, some type of telekinesis power. Which can be use to explain a lot of his powers. And that he is just killing these people not absorbing their powers.

So since Sylar was in the cafe why didn't he do anything or even seem to take notice of Hiro? Obviously Sylar has some way of sensing people with powers and as it seems, Hiro is one of the more powerful ones. 11/14/2006 11:02:36 AM |

god this is such a good show, i love discussions like this
I have no idea why he didn't notice Hiro or take any interest. He had to have known. I feel like I need to rewatch the older episodes to see if they threw something in that wouldn't have meant anything then but might mean something now.
And what the heck is up with that little girl he tried to take? Why has there not been a WORD on this girl. Why would Sylar want to kidnap her?
Obviously any child of an adult that has a power also has a power, so if I remember correctly the "father" i'm assuming at the dinner table had his head sawed off, so he probably has some type of ability.
I think we are assuming Sylar can absorb powers because of the way these people are dying. That was discussed a few pages back. 11/14/2006 12:59:33 PM |

HAHAA, so true...not really the same guy tho is it?
I def think Mr. Bennet is good, though very protective. Dunno if it's been said before but I think Mr. Bennet is a sort of "Professor X" to Sylar's "Magneto".
Good call on Sylar taking the radioactive powers, makes total sense about the save the cheerleader phrase, so sylar can't become invincible.
Lastly, there's a street sign 1/8th mile from the Outback in Cary that has a symbol on it that looks strikingly like the "S" symbol, only the three bars are located in slightly different locations. I'll try to get a picture of it up here.11/14/2006 1:30:31 PM |

Well Hiro hasn't been kidnapped by Mr. Bennet yet, so he hasn't been "marked". Maybe Sylar can only sniff out people who have.

Sylar looked like he was tracking people the same was as chandra suresh. Chandra didn't have a definite way to locate special people, so it may be that Hiro just hasn't been mapped yet. 11/14/2006 1:44:44 PM |

that would make a lot of sense with the "S" symbol, single bar is the evil counterpart, double bar is the good...ie matt parkman only has the double bar on his neck. 11/14/2006 2:04:07 PM |

i don't think we have been given any information on how the map is constructed
my interpretation of the strings were that they were connections between the different people (like genealogies). It could also be about people who were exposed to certain natural events that created their abilities (since his book was called activating evolution).
we never found out what was wrong with Claire did we (she was talking to her mom and her mom said she was "special" since birth)? It was interesting to learn the circumstances of Claire's adoption. 11/14/2006 3:04:44 PM |

I don't think Sylar takes other people's abilities. I think he is just crazy and very powerful. Someone like Magneto. I think he is killing off the other people who have powers, perhaps he is threatened or revengeful who knows.
I think he either had an ability to do Telekinesis or maybe only with metals sort of like Magneto but that would be a big copy to XMen. I think he just killed the girl and he did it with the can lid possibly.
I also think he doesn't have the ability to track them mentally but has some other way physically tracking them such as a device or something. He probably tracked the girl to her work but had no clue that another person with powers was there such as Hiro. 11/14/2006 3:54:32 PM |

In between the numbers there was the S sign with the dashes on it, traveling horizontally.

You should read the entire thread. You will find some cool stuff.
I've been saying for a few weeks now that they had to "Save the Cheerleader" because Sylar with her power would be invincible. Neat to see that there are others who think that, but of course I'm not sure if it's true or not, so I decided to just keep my random theories to myself and just bring observations I've made to the thread. No matter how this plays out next week, I'm sure it will be good, and I can't wait.

I think it's fair and logical to assume cheerleader can regenerate. If anything she would lose plenty of blood in all of those accidents...or hair in fire... but it grows really fast, just as skin would or other body parts such as whole fingers.
if someone puts their hand down the sink disposal it wouldn't just put cuts into her hands, there's a reason it's called a disposal, it gets rid of shit. Her fingers could have been cut off (as it's shown) and she grew them back.
I don't know, that just seems to be obvious to me, especially after being all cut open with skin and shit missing from her chest11/14/2006 10:31:00 PM |

Everyone grows new skin and hair, and their bodies heal, but there is a huge difference between healing very quickly and growing all new limbs. I know what a disposal is, and i never said that it would juat "put cuts in her hands." Rather, I said that her hand was mangled. Of course a disposal could chop off her fingers, but I'm not so sure that it showed her hands with fingers removed and then growing back. From what I remember, and a poster above verified, she still had her fingers, but they weren't held on by much. Unfortunetly, my DVR has decided to delete saved shows regardless of settings, and I do not have this particular episode any more to verify what I remember. As for when she was in the morgue, which I do have the episode of, nothing was missing from her chest. She was lying on the table with her skin cut open, but you could see her muscles, sternum and ribs still in tact. Also, as has been pointed out, she had to close the skin and then it healed. She did not regenerate new skin on top of the muscle and bone.
One thing that I just noticed while going back to verify some of the info above, the picture of Mohinder's father on the back of his book changes. At the beginning of the episode where claire escapes from the morgue, they do a summery montage like they do for every episode. In this one, there is a part where the back of the his father's book is shown. In the picture, his father is a stereotypical indian with a turban, rough beard, dark grey suit and a striped tie. In the latest episode, when Mohinder is packing up his father's posessions in his office, it shows the back of the book again. This time, it is the character that we recognize as his father, a clean cut, bald man with a gotee, light grey suit and spotted tie. I don't want to read too much into it as I imagine the first picture was taken before they had cast someone to play the father, but I think it is interesting none the less, mostly because the book seems to pop up a lot.

The circumstances are that her adopted dad (Bennett) killed her real mom when trying to "tag" her with the double lines, and since he and his wife were having trouble conceiving, he took her in.
I'm also starting to think Bennett is a mis-guided good guy. The lines are some means of tracking them, and he also might do something to them to enhance their abilities. He also apparently tries to train people to use their abilities for "good."
I don't think Sylar is stealing peoples' powers either, but I have no good evidence that he's not (so he very well may be, I just don't think that fits... it's too lame). But, I was wrong about Eden having powers.
My question though is what is the powers of the little Indian kid in Mohinder's dreams? He seems to be able to see events, and then relay them to other people in some way, telepathically. And i'm still not sure what Mohinder's dad's role is, why he was working with Bennett, and who killed him.11/15/2006 1:08:13 AM |

No one yet has commented about the whole 7 minutes to midnight thing. Total Solar Eclipses happen near midnight in certain parts of the world. Antarctica, Hawaii? I don't know too much about Solar Eclipses, but the whole watch thing again seems to strengthen the eclipse theme.
Why would his watch stop before the eclipse? Does it have to do with Hiro? and his time abilities? Can Sylar also travel in time?

I still think there is a limitation to Hiro's power we haven't seen yet. He will probably be one of the ones that will lose his power temporarly.
There is no way one of the bad heroes will lose powers.
Maybe that's why Hiro hasn't come back to the future yet?
