I bought my Panasonic from Amazon.
Check it out in the store first, then check online. Generally speaking, the cost will be lower going with the online TV 5/18/2011 2:19:29 PM |

Yeah Amazon was pretty awesome when I ordered from them. Obviously free shipping and their local contracted movers brought it in to the room I wanted it and I got to inspect the box and the TV when it arrived to decide whether I wanted to immediately deny delivery or not. They also had a good return window as well as a period of time where I could prove someone else had a lower offered price (or if their own price dropped) and they would refund me the difference. That combined with the fact that their price was already the lowest made it a no-brainer. 5/18/2011 2:35:01 PM |

I have. Eventually, I gave up on calibration and just play with the controls until I like what I see. It is good for setting the contrast/brightness/sharpness levels though.
Is that the free one? You can get a free calibration DVD on avs forum somewhere.

Are you looking for a back-lit LED (better picture, more $) or edge-lit (thinner, more energy efficient than trad. LCDs, but not as much of a better picture as marketing will have you believe)? 12/18/2012 12:43:32 AM |

This what we ended up getting
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN46EH6000-46-Inch-1080p-120Hz/dp/B0071O4EKU
it's been great. The blacks on it are decent. I rarely ever see any sort of motion blur or stutter and the few times we have it's been non HD-TV shows shown on on the local HD channels. Movies play fine on it, blu-ray or plain DVD. There's a USB slot on the side that we'll use a 32GB flash drive on to watch shows.
Since we have a PS3 and 360 we didn't need a smart TV or want anything 3D. Gaming on it is fine. I've not noticed any input lag.
We've enjoyed it. 12/18/2012 1:42:51 AM |

I'm not a fan of LED unless you can get full array dimming, which isn't available at that size. I had a 75" mitsubishi laservue for a few weeks and eventually replaced it with a 65" panasonic plasma. I would HIGHLY recommend a gt50 or vt50 50" instead of a 46" led. I wouldn't go with a lower model like the ST or U or a 30 instead of the 50. The noise reduction makes a huge difference in terms of making plasma watchable to me.

in the market for a 65" screen.
Wanted an LED backlit with full array dimming, but the only one i found in that size was way out of my $3k budget.
So, plasma--- i still tend to shy away for burn in, IR/ghosting, heat, weight, and power consumption. Are these still issues with current plasmas?
I'm personally not willing to accept those as trade-offs for deeper blacks.
Any suggestions? 1/14/2013 2:28:06 PM |

^ get the 65" panasonic 65vt50 I linked for $2399. I have had no issue with burn in and I watch sports and movies exclusively. there's a break in process I followed where you basically take a collection of jpegs of varying colors and put them on a usb drive and let the tv run them in a slideshow for a few days straight before calibration. I experience no heat issues or ghosting. the color gamut is much more accurate but the picture isn't as bright (contrast ratio) if you want to preserve this color accuracy. The tv is light enough to move yourself in a box, but too clumbsy not to do it with a partner. Power consumption is on par with a full array dimming. I looked at lesser models and was not impressed by the edge enhancement/noise filters. Once calibrated, I haven't seen a better picture for less than $7000. The only other tv I found on par was the sony xbr-hx950 (and 929) for 4500-5500, the sharp elite 70", the kuro, and the mitsubishi laservue l75-a96. samsung plasma is a very good picture that's maybe a half tier down and imo still above all non-sony LED. 1/14/2013 4:51:56 PM |

panasonic vt50 and the 2013 zt60 equivalent are pretty good deals right now. I don't think you'll see 4k content hitting mainstream for 5 years or so since the infrastructure to deliver it isn't there (docsis 3 everywhere, directv might have to actually start compressing, etc) at a time when CapEx investment is at an all time low. the sony 65" xbr is pretty damn awesome, but i wouldnt pay 2k more than the panasonic for it 8/18/2013 11:18:46 AM |

8gb for vid/texture memory and game assets and a 6800 series video chipset, you aren't going to see any games rendered in 4k. maybe pre-rendered stuff or supporting the playback of 4k content 8/18/2013 2:06:38 PM |

Wanting to get a TV and haven't bought since 2007 when I got my 42" Samsung Plasma. Seeing as how Plasma is apparently out the door in terms of technology, and the room I'm in will have some big windows, I was thinking of an LED.
I don't really care / want a Smart TV because I have a PS3 and Apple TV and think it would just be redundant. Anyone know about this Vizio? Recommendations for something > 60"? I'm fine with a Smart TV, but it's not my driving factor.

trying to find a reason not to get this. all the negatives that i can find people complaining about it i don't really care about: 4" thick - it's replacing a dlp tv that is over a foot thick 2 hdmi inputs - everything goes through the receiver, i could get by with 1 no audio out - everything goes through the receiver no 3d - don't want 3d, don't care not a smart tv - i have an htpc, xbone, and/or ps4 hooked up to it so that's a non issue
anything else you guys see that should make me reconsider getting this? or any alternatives? bigger than 60", less than $1500 is what i'm looking at currently 11/29/2013 3:12:25 AM |

I searched for some reviews about that same TV and couldn't find any.
Turns out, it is a "black friday" exclusive TV. The only thing I would be concerned about is that the quality of the components may not be that great since it is a promotional price TV that is making the rounds on black friday...
I read one website where the guy went to Best Buy to ask about it and the guy told him they didn't even have them on the floor yet b/c it was a black friday exclusive. But he said it was basically a lower-end version of samsung's current lineup. 11/29/2013 7:48:57 AM |

Looking for a budget-friendly 42" on a good Cyber Monday deal (or even just at a good "normal" price) and I came across this one. Not normally a fan of HH Gregg but their price is the lowest I can find anywhere given their cyber monday 11% discount and the fact that their base price is set the same as amazon/bb/etc. LG 42" 1080p, 120Hz, wifi/widi, solid reviews for under $500 after the discount ($487 out the door)--any reason not to pull the trigger?
