^not just looking awkward, but when you have one huge rock that sticks up a good 1/2 inch off your hand, it can be really freaking awkward when you're doing just about anything. getting hooked on clothes or caught up in stuff. not to mention you can scuff it on a wall or something when you aren't paying attention to where your hand is. that's something i definitely didn't want, so i opted for several diamonds that are spread out.

A wall will not scuff a diamond
It's the other way around.

But be careful of kittens...they'll ruin your diamond.

ok so maybe i was thinking more along the lines of protecting the wall, rather than protecting the ring. how do kittens mess up a diamond?

i didn't want to hit my ring on everything, so i opted for the layout that i did.

i wouldn't mind one huge rock

actually, with the right person i'll say yes to anything, but a huge rock is nice too

i proposed last night.

i'll try to get a pic of the ring soon...it's the best one i've seen (no bias).

it's a three stone princess cut with 1 carat in the middle and halves on each side with side stones. i had it custom made at wade's jewelers and i think it came out incredible. it's really hard to take a picture of a ring and do it justice...any tips?

Get good light, use a tripod, turn the flash off, turn on the close up feature, keep the camera away from the ring by about 1.5 feet, zoom in, set the timer, hit the button, and let it take the pic.

I was going to say that it's time for me to start following the "wedding planning" thread, but knowing my gf... I'm not going to have much of any say it any of it

thanks. we had a big christmas party last night with her family and a lot of influential folks and her ring was the talk of the party. haha. it is definitely worth spending a little bit extra to find the perfect ring.

do the diamonds go all the way around the band or stop part of the way down?

there is a 1.03 or something center, .5 sides, and then sidestones or whatever they're called like in the picture (not all the way around to the bottom). it was actually fun to design because i knew what she liked. wade's jewelers in gibsonville, nc does some great work.

I just got engaged in NYC over the weekend...central park in the snow...corny yet romantic

not the best pictures of the ring, but I designed it myself

you can see the diamonds on three sides of the band and on both sides of the 'carriage' for the center stones. there are 3 center stones. what do you think? she loved it.

well everyone is certainly allowed to have their own opinion but it surprises me because everyone else who has seen it really likes it. She told me she really likes the kind that have a round diamond with small diamonds around it and I thought that this looks nicer than just the typical cookie cutter ring.

here are pictures for those who are too lazy to click the link

ok let me clarify. the part that i don't like is that large circular part on top that sticks up. the rest of it is beautiful, but i don't like the upraised part. but i'm picky like that - i refuse to wear jewelry that sticks up to the point that it constantly gets hooked on clothing/towels/etc.
