Remember Ron Paul is a guest of Jay Leno tonight 10/30/07. New people will learn of and about Dr. Paul.

Some Ron Paul supporters say Leno was the best interview yet. Anything noteworthy? Probably not. However, The Sex Pistols' lead singer yelled "Hello Mr. Paul" then asked "When are we going to leave Iraq?" during his song at the end. The only funny thing; Betty White had an egg thrown at (not in) her face by a high school baseball pitcher. He would be better than Hilarious Clinton ... Still not convinced about him though. I really am trying to understand his logic guys. But in all honesty, rushing out of Iraq is not a very logical platform to stand on.

Ron Paul is on top of my list.

Of all the democratic candidates my view most likely match those of Barrack Obama. I do not think though this country is ready for a black president.

PLEASE stop saying that bullshit. the country IS ready. it's people who think that bullshit that won't vote for him and therefore won't even give him a chance to win. and it's not even a black or white issue. this country is ready for a GOOD president, black or white.

yea the only thing i've found i disagree with Paul on is actually Iraq...that is, rushing out immediately. I would like to see a little more effort politically over there, just to somewhat stabilize the shambles of a government they have over there...then we get the heck out...but i do love his mind-our-own-business policy...just maybe not a complete and immediate withdrawal.

although that is certainly better than any other republican candidate's position which seems to espouse the idea that we're going to be over there until every terrorist is dead and their democracy is as functioning as ours

If you don't know yet, there is NOTHING we can do to stabilize a central, federal government in Iraq. Nothing.

If we stay for another 20 years, as soon as we leave, the federal system will collapse. It's a country that will NEVER work together on a centralized structure. You have three completely different, tribal peoples who were only ever brought together into "Iraq" because the British Empire said so.

The best we can do for them is to leave and let the regional governments setup, split the country and defend themselves from Iranian/Syrian/Turkish terrorists.

Also, there is no such thing as "immediate withdrawal". It will take at least a couple of years to bring everyone home, even at breakneck speeds.

^I agree with you, even dick cheney agrees with you, he said so in 1994 in an interview that replacing sadaam with a stable govt was impossible
but i think the only thing that could bring these people together is $$$$
if the oil starts flowing agian, and everyone gets rich, who knows what will happen, it only takes the leaders of the tribes to be persuaded to go along with it and then you'll have the people following,
that is what happened in saudi arabia, there were many factions there too
also it is predicted in the bible that iraq will be a very rich nation

^^^ yeah that's what i was getting at...a gradual, albeit a bit more hasty than we have now, withdrawal

^^and yeah...i mean no remotely democratic government has a chance of surviving over there due to reasons you (and cheney) mentioned and due to the fact that...weeeell, their culture/religion just don't seem to allow it- something we should have realized we decided to wage an idealistic war to establish an idealistic beacon of light in the chaos that is the middle east

i think there is, however, some value in saving face. if we leave the place in shambles as it is now, the chaos is on our hands. yes, the system will collapse when we leave, but at least we can say we tried and it was working when we left and save ourselves a bit of a good rep. sounds sleazy sure but that's what war and politics are.

^^Iraq's problems will not be solved by oil money, they will just be made worse.

^There is no value in saving face. We would save MUCH more face by demilitarizing the region (which, incidentally, we militarized). It would do WONDERS for our foreign relations in the middle east to pull out our troops, permanent bases in Saudi Arabia, and the hundred billion dollars in arms we send over there yearly.

The FEDERAL system will collapse when we leave. They already have stable regional governments. Everyone already knows we tried, and as usual we clusterfucked it. You can't build nations where nations already exist.

Foreign policy is always easier when you are in the backseat.

There are some pretty smart people running the military and analyzing foreign policy. I say we let them decide whats best for Iraq, and leave it at that. This argument has no end, and no one here is quite as knowledgeable regarding the subject as they think.

^^Classic fallacy. It's simply not true, especially in the majority.

Military != foreign policy. Never has been. The military is there to carry out the actions decided by Congress, NOT to decide what actions are best to take. They are also not equipped and not intended for nation building and peacekeeping forces.

And please show me these "pretty smart people" analyzing foreign policy in the white house. Because they don't exist in this administration.

The argument certainly has an end, and I don't think most of us (myself included) are over-extending their knowledge or making some irrational claims or propositions. "Trusting" that the people in charge know what's best is what got us in there in the first place, and has caused the perpetual downward spiral of our civil rights and foreign relations.

^^^Note that the graph was designed somewhat misleadingly. The graph intends to lead people not looking at the y-axis into thinking that the dollar goes from [some higher value] to 0, as opposed to just 86 to 76.

The dollar falling by 10 points still isn't a good thing, but it's better than the dollar falling to 0. My point here is always look at the axis on a chart.

Well, I got it from a neutral investing website. Not a Ron Paul supporter "inflation will kill us" website. So I'd imagine most of the people there are smart enough to look at the y-axis.

http://quotes.ino.com/chart/?s=NYBOT_DX

But anyway, that's a 10.5% decline over the past year. And that's not even in reference to something solid that has zero inflation, that's in relation to other currencies that have their own mild inflation, albeit far less and more manageable such that it's not a threat to people and their incomes.

hmmm...last I checked the US inflation rate was 1.97% in august, while it was hovering around 1.9% for the Euro. That last .07% must be a real bitch

Published inflation rates are worthless cause they are designed to understate them. Governments, regardless of which party is power, will not voluntarily publish anything that says they're doing a bad job.

If the US inflation rate is only 0.07% more than the EU inflation rate, than the euro would not be at all-time highs against the dollar. Notice this chart is for euro versus the dollar. So the chart going up means the dollar is worth less.

You clearly don't understand exchange rates if you think they have a 1:1 relationship with inflation. Maybe you've just been listening to Ron Paul for too long.

The Euro's gains versus the dollar are a reflection of investors and speculators guessing that the US economy is in trouble and that the dollar will lose value in the near future.

I never said that.

Forex markets are a real-life application that can be used by the proles like me and you to interpret inflation, commodities and consumables are another. Currencies going up and down shows the worth of that currency is increasing or declining as compared to other currencies. Especially when it comes to imported goods, a good amount of all the "things" we buy, either at the finished good stage or the raw materials for those finished goods that are made here. Those costs get passed on to you and me.

So in that sense, the value of the dollar does matter because if it is worth less than the price I pay for goods next week that I bought last week is more if they come from outside the U.S. (which is a good amount of what we buy). That is really all I care about when it comes to inflation, how much more do I have to pay for the same stuff.

More "wackiness" from our man Paul.

Quote :
"The Federal Reserve Rate Cut
--Ron Paul

America’s economic difficulties, especially the problems in the housing market, are the direct result of the Federal Reserve’s inflationary policies. In the past year, we have seen MZM grow by 12%, yet the Fed continues to inflate the money supply. While prices for gold, oil, and staple commodities continue to rise, the purchasing power of the dollar for all Americans continues to fall. Inflationary monetary policies created the problems in the economy we are seeing, and these problems will be made worse, not better, by more inflation. Today’s action by the Fed is very bad news for American workers and retirees, who are about to get hit with yet another jump in prices.

Make no mistake, the problems faced by the American people are not caused by unscrupulous mortgage brokers or the rising price of oil. These are symptoms of an economic disease caused by a spendthrift Congress enabled by loose monetary policy. Too many pundits praise the weak dollar as benefiting exporters, but they fail to see the harm done to thrifty, hard-working Americans. Rather than continuing to pursue a policy of easy credit and increasing debt, we need to return to a sound monetary system.

Two events of note coming up:

Grassroots supporters of Ron Paul are attempting to break the record for most campaign donations in a single day, on Monday, November 5. They are asking folks to sign up for a $100 pledge to give online on that day. There are now about 17,000 pledges. Sign up at http://www.thisnovember5th.com

Also, the grassroots has organized what will be by far the largest rally to date. It is on Saturday, November 10th, at Independence Mall in Philadelphia - and that is quite appropriate. Nobody has expected attendance figures, but it will be in the thousands. If you are going, the campaign asks that you RSVP online at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=dBjFsj_2beVwWkQTcU_2bTekYA_3d_3d

I'm participating in both, and hope a lot of folks who read this thread decide to get involved, too.

haha, now it's just shy of $3m.

On CNN, Wolf Blitzer reported it but said repeatedly, "This cannot be confirmed." And asked his fellow reporter multiple times, "Are you sure these are not just pledges, but people actually gave out their CC #'s and gave real money?"

hahahahahaaha, the Old Media is just confused by this. Shocked and confused.
