I'm thinking a HB sweet to the right side. Pull the left guard. Or bring in a full back. Stone releases back. Brown flips it back to Stone. I just say right side since Stone is right handed and it would be easier to scramble that direction and throw if need be.
Or maybe a bootleg right by the QB (nameless at this point). RB picks up Stones block who reverses back. Cross field lateral by QB to open Stone.
I think it could work once or twice.] 8/8/2007 12:38:37 PM |

Sports N.C. State Kicking Duties Still Up in the Air By J. Mike Blake
Posted: Aug. 7 8:42 p.m.
Two or possibly three new faces will handle N.C. State’s kicking duties in the fall, but according to coach Tom O’Brien, it is still up in the air as to who will take what jobs.
Just as he has been with the quarterback situation, O’Brien is reluctant to name anyone as the frontrunner for punter, kicker or kickoff specialist.
“I like competition. I think it brings out the best in guys,” O’Brien said.
Although O’Brien said that competition was still open at punter, one can’t help but notice that the Wolfpack chose to simply place the ball 35 yards downfield during this spring’s Red and White game rather than let another punter take a stab at proving himself.
In all likelihood, Jeff Ruiz, a junior who transferred in from a California junior college and had yet to enroll at the time of the Red and White game, will be the punter almost by default.
Redshirt freshman Josh Czajkowski hit seven extra points and a 40-yard field goal in that game – he also missed a 54-yarder– and is vying for both the kicker and kickoff specialist positions.
O’Brien said the team did live placekicking in today’s practice, the last practice before tomorrow’s first fall scrimmage.
“We’re kicking different guys. There’s a lot of competition on this team, it’s going to be tough now,” O’Brien said.
“We’re going to be as hard as we can on them and separate who are going to be the tough guys and the guys we can count on and the guys we can’t.”
Czajkowski spent last year in the shadow of Mr. Everything John Deraney. Over the past three years, Deraney attempted nearly every field goal, extra point and kickoff that the team asked him to do.
“I’m working hard to be as good as he was,” Czajkowski said.
Some wondered whether the stress of doing all three tasks was too taxing on Deraney’s leg, and senior kicker Bradley Pierson said that it did in fact wear on the Georgia native as the year played out.
“I think it played a big part on him. Doing all three jobs is tough,” Pierson said. “His kickoffs are what really put a toll on him.”
Deraney’s departure coincides with a new NCAA rule that places the ball five yards farther back than last year.
Pierson said that placing the ball at the 30-yard line will likely cut down dramatically on touchbacks and increase teams’ return yardage.
“It’s affected a lot,” O’Brien said. “We’ve already started kicking off and trying to find out which guys have the strongest leg to get it to the end zone.”
There remains the possibility that a third player will be asked to do kickoffs only, and the lead man for that duty, according to Pierson, is walk-on Steven Hauschka, a graduate student from Needham, Mass.
“He’s got a real strong leg,” Pierson said. “Right now it’s Steve.”
It’s not a reach to think that Hauschka might be able hold onto the job. O’Brien has proven himself open to suggestions, and walk-ons for that matter, when it comes to the kicking game.
In O’Brien’s final season as Boston College’s coach, another walk-on named Steve, Steve Aponavicius, took over as the lead placekicker. Aponavicius went on to nail a game-winning 37-yarder in the Eagles’ bowl game and was put on scholarship this season by the school. 8/8/2007 1:10:40 PM |

Ok, I looked on packprides recruiting list and I didn't notice anymore recruits with 3 or 4 stars that list their interest in us more than medium. Should I just assume that we have to perform decent on the field before we start getting anymore good recruits? 8/9/2007 7:21:53 PM |

Well some recruits haven't taken their official visits yet. So a few may commit during their official visit or soon after. Also those interest levels aren't updated all the time. So a few prospects may be narrowing their list as we speak. I know we've made the top five and top 3 of a few prospects recently according to PP. I'm not too worried. We are kicking UNC and Bitch Davis' ass right now in recruiting. Especially in-state recruiting. Top 2 players in the state and 6 of the top 30. As well as the LB Beasley from FL and Glennon from VA, who went to the Elite 11 QB camp. Some recruits don't look at just how well the team does. They look for if they can come in and compete for a starting position right away, as well as who the team already has committed. If it all mattered on how well the team did then JJ Hickson wouldn't have committed to our basketball team who were only 5-11 in the ACC regular season. 8/9/2007 7:35:10 PM |

4* WR Deion Walker made an unofficial visit to State yesterday. We aren't even listed in his interest list but he has been to campus about 4 or 5 times. The offer/interest lists are never up to date unless there is an interview that explicitly tells information. The Georgia-verbal 4* TE, Dwayne Allen, is another that we have a pretty good chance at landing. For the most part, TOB & Co. will be focusing on the OL and DL along with a few other in skill positions. 8/10/2007 12:18:58 AM |

Sadly, Mario Carter's injury actually helps us in landing Dwayne Allen. THey are saying the knee injury was a severe dislocation of the knee, which is going to result in more damage than your run of the mill ACL/MCL tear. 8/10/2007 1:39:00 PM |

Of course other players at the same position in the same class have an impact, regardless of ranking. Its not like Mario Carter is a scrub... he's a big target for arguably the top school in the State. If Mario Carter can't play his freshman year then that is one less in direct competition. It matters because Dwayne Allen wants to be on the field immediately. 8/11/2007 12:25:38 AM |

How are these scrimmages set up? Like the red/white game or 1st O vs 1st D 2nd & 2nd etc.
On a plus side, Dejuan Morgan played really well. 8 tackles and an Int. I was worried about his ability to hit. Wish I could some how see how many of those stops were against Baker/Brown. More than 1 or 2 and that doesn't say a whole lot for the D line or linebackers. Is Dunlap hurt?] 8/13/2007 8:29:17 AM |

Nonsense. The kid hasn't even taken but a handful of throws and it was against the lowbies. Given their track record, I don't see how anyone could second guess TOB & Co. on offense decision making. There is no reason DE can't perform like he did against BC and FSU last year.8/13/2007 1:35:52 PM |
