Quote : | "I keep reading idiots on PP that are ok with Beck as the starter for the rest of the season because of the yardage he put up. I swear to god if he starts he better have a tight fucking leash because read the D worse than Marcus Stone EVER did and we all bitched and moaned about Stone not being able to look off receivers or know where the fucking D was. Beck was horrible today. He is an amazing talent but he has yet to learn how to play football and its obvious. I feel great about our chances with him if he can somehow see the field because he made some great throws today.... " |
what I remember is everyone bitching about Stone taking off and running anytime there was the slightest feeling of pressure . . . which was all the time because our line sucks balls

Pass blocking was actually ok until late in the game yesterday. The first 4 interceptions were on bad reads/bad decisions. Beck had plenty of time and consistently threw into double coverage.
Our D put TWICE the amount of pressure on Ryan yesterday and he didnt throw into double coverage all day. He didnt play well, but he also didnt shit himself. There is no excuse for the run blocking but we actually had time to throw yesterday for most of the game.9/9/2007 1:42:40 PM |

For all of you people who want to throw Beck under the bus, listen up.
This was his FIRST start. Rivers had bad days too, albeit, never a 5 pick day with a fumble to boot. It was a really bad day for Beck and he made mistakes (namely, not knowing when to take a sack). He is not without blame, however, we can't keep throwing QBs under the bus everytime they have a bad day. They need time to develop and to mature and the ONLY way to achieve that is letting them play and letting them learn. We're not going to have another phenom like Philip Rivers and we likely never will again. The only way we even got Rivers was the fact that he was recruited as a tight end. If he had shown how good of a QB he was, he would've been recruited by a program with much more prestige than NC State.
We have to work with what we have. If we ever want a consistent quarterback, we have to show a little support and LET our guys have a bad day without threats of taking his job away. That being said, I COMPLETELY disagree with TOB's choice to bench Beck and put in Evans. Evans had his chance over the last half of last season. He displayed he could not get it done, but in a few situations (time running out, hail mary).
I support Beck. 9/9/2007 1:50:58 PM |

Guys, seriously, lighten up. Fire yourself if you expected this season to be anything but rebuilding. Sure, we played bad football and we made mistakes but good God at least we didn't explore every penalty rule in the rule book.
We're just plain bad right now and we'll eventually get better. 9/9/2007 2:05:49 PM |

He didn't "bench" Beck. The game was well out of hand, and he let Evans do mopup duty. What the hell is wrong with that?9/9/2007 2:07:13 PM |

I think its just frustrating that we clearly had the physical ability to beat BC yesterday and we ended up getting blown out because of bad decisions.
Not on one of those interceptions did I go "well, at least the DB made a great play"
...no balls hitting receivers in the hands and getting picked
...our D was good enough not only to keep us in the game, they were good enough to win that game if we dont shit ourselves on offense.
and...we have some good receivers. You cant tell me that Dunlap was the only guy all day to get single coverage when he scored that TD. Beck either threw to wide open receivers or double covered receivers. thats unacceptable. You have to throw into coverage, you dont have to throw into double coverage. 9/9/2007 2:33:28 PM |

"Mop-up" duty is benching Ryan for the second string BC QB. Benching Beck is a confidence killer. You make the kid go back out there and finish the awful game that he allowed to get out of hand.9/9/2007 4:58:12 PM |

I'm sorry, but I'll take Daniel Evans any day...200 yards and 2 tds >>> going 80 yards down the field to throw an INT 5 times and rack up 234324 yards. If Beck had anything upstairs he would be a great starting QB...but that was a lot of the critiscm against him in Nebraska, no brains and couldn't learn. Why he got demoted to 3rd string...Both QBs have had a ton of pressure of them and hear LOUD critics. I don't really blame Daniel for playing so conservative and not wanting to make the big mistake.
And you can't blame Beck's mistakes on the OLine this week...last week Daniel was being rolled out into the blitz almost everyplay and when he wasn't he still had a ton of pressure. Beck had alllll day to throw the ball, can't put the blame on the OLine if you actually watched the game

Daniel looked a lot different in the short time we saw him at BC than he did the short time we saw him against UCF...I def think he's capable of 200 yards passing against a def like BC was playing. Beck didn't throw any great passes, he hit wide open recievers 30 yards down the field...I hope any QB we recruit is capable of throwing to a wide open reciever. If only they all had brains...9/9/2007 7:15:26 PM |

As I predicted for the most part but the first half was very interesting. I was a little worried since it was still a ballgame and my brother explained to me how all the big underdogs from inferior programs were doing well to start games this week because app state inspired them...and then things got better.
Tom O'Brien has to feel terrible. Being ran out of town by the fans after years of mediocrity and then returning to be taunted the entire game by rowdy students the next year when you come back to get blown out has to be stressful. Some of the cheers were too graphic to be repeated but the most common one that seemed to echo the entire game was "tom o brien clap clap clap". You could tell it bothered him because he often looked. Added to the fact that the new offensive coaches are already easily scoring points in the first two games really shows how terrible of a coach he is.

So wait you have to have alc to have tailgating? lol only in the south where people don't know any other way to entertain themselves so they anesthetize themselves by getting drunk to pass time or shoot each other. The longer something lasts the more diluted it becomes. 3 hours of crunk is much better than a day of calm. and lastly, tailgating in the parking deck is the BEST. If you haven't been there you wouldn't understand but I missed being in the deck saturday.9/9/2007 8:15:16 PM |

We've just gotta deal with it and improve other aspects of the game.
" |
I disagree. Beck and Evans, currently, are actually worse than probably 80% of D1 college QBs. Currently, they aren't even mediocre. They're bad.
We were spoiled with Rivers, but some of us remember football before Rivers, and the Qb situation hasn't been as bad as it has the last 4 years in a long time.
We should expect more from our QB play than this.
With that said, leave Beck in. He obviously has the physical talents. Let's see if he can develop the rest.9/9/2007 8:44:34 PM |

Yeah no shit. I would give anything to get Terry Harvey back out there or Jamie Barnette. Those two guys look like pros compared to now. Maybe we should bring back O'Cain as an OC. He always had a QB and usually we had a pretty good passing game with MOC.9/9/2007 9:41:46 PM |
