^^ McCain offered a plan to buy up mortgages in default and in risk of default. Obama and Biden want courts to have authority to force compromise settlements by "resetting" the principal. In either way the US consumer and Taxpayer will be absorbing the brunt of the cost- although it is much less directly out of your pockets in the Obama/Biden plan.
Also, as far as "paying for your gas" that's closer to McCain's position than Obamas. McCain was in favor for the moratorium on federal gas tax. Since the proposal contained nothing about reduced spending and the reduction of gas costs would be minuscule for the average consumer, the lost funds would still have to made up by the taxpayer eventually.
Not sure why people (Obama supporters AND McCain supporters) are saying he's said the government would pay your mortgage and gas for you. The deluded ignorant people like the interviewee above on the Obama side think they'll get free gas and their mortgage paid while the wackjob red-baiters on the McCain side go rabid over a fun new socialist strawman they can fool themselves into using.
It's really fucking sad. The Obama supporters saying this are ingorant of the fact that McCain's policies are slightly closer to the imaginary proposals they claim are part of Obama's platform. The McCain supporters who believe it talk about how incredibly stupid and expensive it is, all the while ignorant of the same fact.
Yes, I realize that overall these mirror-image idiots are a minority for both sides. It's just sad that they manage to get behind keyboards and cameras as much as they do.
Next think you know they'll interview Obama supporters lauding his military service and McCain supporters talking about his amazing fund raising and organizing efforts. 11/4/2008 10:39:40 AM |

This nothing compared to what he's been through. But it isn't easy either.

http://www.newsweek.com/id/167581/page/1 Here's an article that seems to dig deeper into the relationship between Palin and the campaign, and it doesn't paint a good picture, as many people have suspected.
Quote : | "NEWSWEEK has also learned that Palin's shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain's top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family—clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent "tens of thousands" more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as "Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast," and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books." |
Quote : | " McCain himself rarely spoke to Palin during the campaign, and aides kept him in the dark about the details of her spending on clothes because they were sure he would be offended. Palin asked to speak along with McCain at his Arizona concession speech Tuesday night, but campaign strategist Steve Schmidt vetoed the request." |
Quote : | "Palin launched her attack on Obama's association with William Ayers, the former Weather Underground bomber, before the campaign had finalized a plan to raise the issue. McCain's advisers were working on a strategy that they hoped to unveil the following week, but McCain had not signed off on it, and top adviser Mark Salter was resisting." |
Quote : | "McCain also was reluctant to use Obama's incendiary pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, as a campaign issue. The Republican had set firm boundaries: no Jeremiah Wright; no attacking Michelle Obama; no attacking Obama for not serving in the military. McCain balked at an ad using images of children that suggested that Obama might not protect them from terrorism. Schmidt vetoed ads suggesting that Obama was soft on crime (no Willie Hortons). And before word even got to McCain, Schmidt and Salter scuttled a "celebrity" ad of Obama dancing with talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres (the sight of a black man dancing with a lesbian was deemed too provocative)." |
Wow, it seems that McCain really tried to run a clean campaign, and it could have easily been Palin that lost him this race, in more ways than one.
Quote : | "On the night she officially lost the Democratic nomination, Hillary Clinton enjoyed a long and friendly phone conversation with McCain. Clinton was actually on better terms with McCain than she was with Obama. Clinton and McCain had downed shots together on Senate junkets; they regarded each other as grizzled veterans of the political wars and shared a certain disdain for Obama as flashy and callow." |
Obama drops the F-bomb
Quote : | "The debates unnerved both candidates. When he was preparing for them during the Democratic primaries, Obama was recorded saying, "I don't consider this to be a good format for me, which makes me more cautious. I often find myself trapped by the questions and thinking to myself, 'You know, this is a stupid question, but let me … answer it.' So when Brian Williams is asking me about what's a personal thing that you've done [that's green], and I say, you know, 'Well, I planted a bunch of trees.' And he says, 'I'm talking about personal.' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house. It's because of something collective'."" |

Yeah, I like McCain. He was obviously too old and too disorganized to be President, but he's a good dude and all the hate directed at him during the campaign was a bit excessive. Hopefully he can get back to his roots and contribute in the Senate like Barry Goldwater did after he got spanked. 11/5/2008 9:30:51 PM |

Fox News, of all places, has more:
Quote : | "Fox News Chief Political Correspondent Carl Cameron appeared on The O'Reilly Factor tonight and described in much fuller detail the truly astonishing behavior, and lack of knowledge, of Sarah Palin on the campaign trail, as well as the nasty infighting that resulted from, some would say, Palin's "diva" behavior. (Earlier today, Palin said reports of her "diva" behavior and any tension within the campaign were "absolutely false.")
Cameron relates how McCain aides were terrified of Palin's lack of knowledge of international and national issues, and even basic civics. Cameron reports that Palin was unfamiliar with the concept of "American exceptionalism," and that not only did she not understand that Africa was a continent rather than a single country but also that during debate prep Palin was unable to name all the nations in North America.
Palin was apparently a nightmare for her campaign staff to deal with. She refused preparation help for her interview with Katie Couric and then blamed her staff, specifically Nicole Wallace, when the interview was rightly panned as a disaster. After the Couric interview, Palin turned nasty with her staff and began to accuse them of mishandling her. Palin would view press clippings of herself in the morning and throw "tantrums" over the negative coverage. There were times when she would be so nasty and angry that her staff was reduced to tears.
Watch the clip from The O'Reilly Factor below... " |

I don't think I could name all the countries in Central America off the top of my head if you count that as North America, so I wouldn't blame her for that really.
CNN has more McCain infighting: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/11/05/soruces-mccain-aide-fired-for-trashing-staff/
