I didn't understand what flash BDub's quote was describing
I was confusing the flash on the plane with the flash that he might have seen were he in the outrigger firing at the time skippers
I got it

So where do you stand on our bet?
Other people in this thread: how many of those still feel that the death of charlotte's grandfather/father is a contributing factor to her death?
Last nights ep was pretty damn good. I was pleased. I too have been hoping ben was one of the good guys but its turning out not to be the case. He exiled Charles and convinced him to leave? thats interesting. Big wow there. I guess that is why he wants the island so badly. Ben killed locke which i thought was a great tie in to abbadons suggestion that his death would be fate induced.
i also liked how they didn't carry out each of his visits too long and provided some new information as well as flashbacks of events. Next week I feel we're really going to get some place. 2/26/2009 11:07:07 AM |

i like the idea of the others "worshiping" locke since he first visited their camp, as was sort of suggested by widmore. he was always supposed to be the leader. 2/26/2009 11:21:21 AM |

Confirmed people from the plane who time traveled: Jack Hurley Kate
Confirmed people from the plane who didn't time travel: Locke Ben LaFleur "and some woman took one" (Sun or just some coworker?) Caeser Ilana
Leftovers: Sun Sayid
I'm not a big fan of the whole leaving Walt behind because "He's been through so much already" and not bringing Aaron for whatever fucking reason. Seems like the entire second season (at least partially) revolved around Walt (way to abandon your dog btw, fuckass) and Aaron.
Is it just me or has Kate turned into Michael? -"He's my son!" ~ "He's my son! WALTTT!!" -"I'm a raging cunt." ~ "I'm a sell-out bastard."

well the people on the 2nd island where the plane crashed took refuge in the (i think) Hydra Station, which was abandoned. It was abandoned after The Others left it a season or two ago, indicating the plane crashed in 2008. 2/26/2009 12:03:31 PM |

I also assumed this when first watching the episode, and kinda "confirmed" that with the following screencap from GetLostPodcast:

You can see the words: "Set machine to..." which you'll remember from the episode when Desmond's consciousness was bouncing around in time and he met Faraday at Oxford.

Why can't people see how ridiculous the plot to this show is? I've been forced to watch most of the episodes and jesus christ if you actually tried to make sense of it....
It kills me because they set it in such locales as "Los Angeles" and "London" but then don't follow the rules of even a somewhat fantastical Earth. I mean, if people can just die and come back, who gives a fuck if they die in the first place? Why should you care about any of the characters if they could just come back? It's like they took the insanity of a 30 year soap opera and condensed it down into several seasons, and threw in some silly Stephen King shit just to make it interesting.
When you introduce time travel, but then it doesn't apply to some people and it applies different to other people, that's just stupid. Even in fantasy you have to have some set of predictable rules (dragons can fly, breathe fire, etc) so when someone's watching they can suspend disbelief and understand what's going on based on the framework of the setting.
Lost has no framework. People can die and be reborn, some people travel through time, and for some reason their heads explode, but not at anywhere near the same rate for some others. There's a giant black cloud that rips people in half (which was cool, btw) and also somehow takes over people's bodies. The island can be moved by some giant wheel. What's next?
I'm going to piss myself laughing when the series is over and they explain all the shitty plot away with it being someone's dream.

well, you have to come at it this way: People have been watching this show for 5 years, and 4 of those 5 years were at least partially based on reality or some sort of mild pseudo-science. But the pseudo-sciency stuff was kind of in the background. In the meantime, they told very compelling backstories and we got to know the characters very well and became "invested" in the overall plot line.
Now, admittedly, this season has gone completely off the rails as far as science and realistic or believable explanations go. And I can see how someone who has just joined or started watching in S4 or 5 would just give up and say "wtf, this is f'ing retarded". But for people who are long time fans of the show, its characters, and the plots, we still really want to see where all this is going and we're willing to deal with time/space travel to get there.2/27/2009 5:01:04 PM |

I've been watching mostly since the series started. The only episodes I've missed were when I managed to avoid watching it. I'm a fan by proxy (my wife).
I enjoyed it when I thought it was a plane crash island survival series. Then the polar bears came and it spiraled downward since then for me. 2/27/2009 5:10:18 PM |

It's not like they're bringing people back to life all willy-nilly
There have been exactly two people reincarnated (maybe only one)

I think they've done a really good job setting a the rules of time travel. The reasoning behind the nosebleeds has been hinted at by Faraday. I think there's a pretty solid, if unbelievable, framework in place.
Maybe you should stick to documentaries and live television. It's obvious that fiction is a bit over your head.

Quote : | "Damon Lindelof: You know, we have a hard and fast rule on the show, that we will always stick… that is, when a character dies on the show, they’re dead. The only time you’ll see them again is in someone else’s flashback. So, um, we do that because we want the stakes on the Island to be real—there are characters who have died who have appeared in other people’s memories. I think if we were to tell you that you would see Libby again, the sort of intriguing question would be—well, who did she cross paths with that you already know? And that would be how you would be seeing her again. " |
