ward - sucking it up. Rumor has it he gained 25 lbs this summer (idk if thats true, but anyway). WAY TO GO FATASS. He generally steps it up when he has a threat to his spot in net, but damn if he aint slacking off now. He has some good/mediocre games, but nothing incredible. Leighton is just showing me alot more this year, he's definitely growing on me.

i love it when people talk about goaltending

LOVE IT

you leave kovy open in the slot with momentum, he's scoring

i don't care if you have ken dryden and patrick roy in net

he's scoring

the problem with this team is not cam ward

it's the lack of backchecking and d-zone coverage

^I don't think Cam is our problem either. Our problem is lack of Chemistry in the offensive zone.

With Williams out and Eaves either injured or permanently MIA on the ice, we have no finishers really. Staal also seems to be avoiding going to the net like it's cancer.

Luckily our defensemen are taking up the cause and chipping in some goals and points, but we need somebody to get in there and start getting their hands dirty.

^agreed.

I really think Staal needs to be benched for a good part of one game.

Cam Ward surely isn't the problem but he doesn't seem to be 100% that's for sure. Yeah, the Islanders game was a good showing but none of those shots were good quality. He had some good saves against Washington but that breakdown with 2 minutes left was horrible (I was at that game btw and I'll be there in Raleigh this wednesday so we better get some revenge)

The problem is as viny said a lack of back checking and horrible lapses in the d-coverage. We'll play a solid defensive game and then for 20 seconds let them skate all over us. You can't do that and expect to win hockey games.

Eric Staal needs to have a large portion of his playing time cut into, or put centering the 3rd or 4th line. He may get paid $10 million a year but that doesn't mean we should be double shifting him if he shows no effort in the offensive zone, is flat footed, and doesn't skate back on defense. He's showing no heart or any hint of an effort. He's had 0 points in his last 4 games and has had 1 goal since October 11th (the 2nd game of the season) not counting 2 open net goals against Anaheim and Toronto.

You can complain all you want about Ward, and I agree the team plays MUCH better in front of Leighton for some reason, but if you're going to put the majority of the blame on one person you should point to our future captain.

Epic, eh?

I would prefer if Leighton stays in the net. And Staal needs to get it together. Last game I went to...no heart whatsoever. He's tired. They're all tired. Hopefully the break will help them regain their strength and they'll play stronger against the Crapitals. I think Cullen and Pitkanen will play Wednesday. We'll see how it goes.

Well whomever is participating in this "epic" flirting with qntmsister I would recommend wooing her with talk of Colton Orr or better yet Scott Stevens. She told me just the other night how much she loves them both.

I have on good authority that I prefer being wooed by men who talk of BOBBY Orr, not Colton Orr. And I do believe this said "love" for Colton Orr is fake..but Stevens I could handle...

Word on the street is that all 3 (Cullen, Pitkanen, and Sutter) were all involved in practice this morning AND Laviolette is going to be using Leighton (good call, sir) in net tomorrow night.

I'm hoping word on the street is correct because Leighton deserves the call

I'd venture to say tomorrow nights game is damn near a must win for the Hurricanes... the Capitals have put together a string of good games, the Hurricanes can't afford to drop two games to the Caps within a week

http://www.voteforwallin.com

A small group of us Caniacs have started a movement to try and get Niclas Wallin voted onto the 2009 All-Star team. So far, we have had a huge media break-out with blogs and message boards jumping on the idea and giving us some much appreciated momentum. And it's not slowing down, due to a lot of inspired fans.

We would love to see you NC State students help get the word out to anyone who will listen. Being a college student, I know how strong your influence is. So please spread the word and lets get Nic in the 09 All-Star Game!

if we can get qntmfred on this, and keep whatever skewing we do hush hush, I think there is a chance. There might be a couple of ways to exploit this, especially through the text-vote by using an online method of sending a text if they allow that.

Nic seems like a weird guy to me too, I bet if somehow we got him into the all star game he would probably turn it down so he could go on vacation or some shit

I think Nic may not wear his heart on his sleeve on the ice, but is completely devoted to this team. I don't have a whole lot to base that on, but still my perception of him is the classiest of the classiest.
