When people continuously miss the point of the debate, as you just have, others tend to want to repeat it. Many, if not most, opponents of this law actually do prefer fresh air when eating or drinking, but the issue isn't fresh air. The issue is the excessive and unnecessary use of government force to prohibit a harmless* activity on private property.

*("harm" as in "legal harm that one consents to", like smoking, boxing, body-piercing, etc.)

\/ but it's a bullshit definition. The only reason people would consent to the smoke is because they had few other choices for dining out. Now the shoe is on the other foot and smokers are gonna have to walk a mile in our shoes.

I don't know how many times I have been somewhere where there was smoking and have very politely asked if the person smoking would mind blowing their smoke in the other direction or just hold their cigarette in their other hand, not asking them to put it out or stop smoking and not making a big production of coughing or whatever, just being polite to try and coexist, only to have them make a point of blowing in my direction or ignoring me and laughing with their friends because it is "funny" to annoy non-smokers.

So, yes, I will absolutely be a fucking dick about this new law. I will laugh at the morons in the cold. I will report bars and restaurants that violate the law. And I won't feel bad about for even one second. And as you shiver in the cold and wheeze out the word pussy at me, I will enjoy my meal or drink or whatever in a nice, smoke-free environment.

i agree that a "polite" smoker is much less likely than an impolite one...smokers do what they do specifically because they either:

1.) rely on drugs to make them feel good (and they can't use the reasons as smoking pot, since cigs are ALWAYS and inarguably bad for you) or
2.) rely on cigarettes to make them look cool

there are no other reasons to start smoking cigarettes...i've NEVER met a smoker who thought the taste was just fantastic from the first one...they force themselves to smoke until the drug addiction overcomes the horrible taste, hacking, and coughing and THEN it's the greatest thing in the world

people that pathetic are ALMOST always douchebags since they don't have strength of character enough to avoid developing the habit in the first place (i do know one or two that are considerate, though)

No matter how many times you repeat it, you're still missing the point. People that choose to remain around smoke are consenting to any harms or risks of harms from exposure to the smoke. Now, I agree that the smoke shouldn't enter other properties where it is disallowed. Also, I agree that smoking should be banned wherever minors are allowed, because minors can't consent. But you can't continue to completely ignore the principle of consent in this issue and still be taken seriously.
