HUR are you still Nathan's account?

you sound like a whiny bitch. why do you care so much about how many primetime games the rams have? the panthers were an average team last year, they havent done anything to create any type of buzz or excitement about this season, so I'm sure the networks decided they arent the most marketable team in the nfl right now.

if the panthers are better than average then maybe some of their games will get put into one of those sunday night football flex spots.

also, by the way, the rams have later games because they are in a different timezone than the panthers, and the teams in their division (i.e. the teams who care the most about the Rams games and will be the ones watching the games) are on the west coast and therefore are in the pacific timezone.

HUR, simply put, games in the Pacific, Mountain and Central time zones tend to get 4:15 kicks, while games in the East tend to get 1:05 kickoffs

While I, too, would rather be able to wake up at 11am to start tailgating instead of 8am, that really has nothing to do with performance or bias, and everything to do with timezone

We went 8-8 last year...I am convinced (though I might be wrong) that had we pulled Jake a few games earlier (like halftime of the Buffalo game), we could've finished 10-6 and made the playoffs.

Whether or not that would've played out, nobody knows. But to act like we can't compete is also a stretch. We have a great running game and our defense played great the last couple months of the season. We averaged 3 takeaways per game over our final 10 games.

If Moore/Clausen/Pike/Cantwell can play decent and not turn the ball over in Delhomme-like numbers, why can't we compete for a playoff spot?

^i agree. jake single hand-idly lost us two games. i believe that had moore been playing, he could have prevented that, and maybe even won a game by himself. i wouldnt be surprised if we went 10-6 or even 11-5 this year.

okay maybe i would be a little surprised if we went 11-5...

this is precisely my worry....Fox has all but made it clear in the past few years that, for whatever reason, he's not comfortable w/ moore as the starter. I'm afraid they start out 2-3 (or worse) and fox benches moore (if moore even makes it through preseason as the starter)...and I have 0 confidence in clausen to take us to the playoffs.

No reason we can't compete for a playoff spot - but in terms of teams expected to COMPETE. Ya cant think our offseason (relative to competition) has put in in the conversation.

Unforeseen individual player development (which is likely to happen I think) may be our ticket into that conversation.... but we'll just have keep hoping

Good call

Not a feasible explaination. They are one time zone less along with chicago, kansas city, tennesse, lions. The lions
have all 1:00 pm games (12:00 pm local time). I have already broken down the schedule highlighting why their
West division status does not matter.

I really can't see Fox pulling Moore so fast, when Jake could've started 0-8 and he would stick with him. Fox is often loyal to a fault. What makes you think he's gonna completely change his ways?

Supposedly, Moore's problem was that when he wasn't the starter, he was the last one to arrive, the first one to leave, etc. Work ethic. I think he turned that around when he began starting last year. The only way I see Moore getting yanked for Clausen is if he gets injured, or he throws multiple interceptions in like 4 straight games. Its his job to lose.

I agree, Fox is overly loyal to 'his guys', the older vets that he brought on the team. Moore has never been his guy...the only reason he's ever played is when injury forced fox to put him in there....He's had wait on atleast 2 qb's to go down before he saw the field each of the two seasons he started games.

Regardless of how he ends up playing next year, I'd be much more comfortable having a proven guy behind him instead of 2 rookies

Fox isn't loyal to Moore but he's still too conservative to throw a first year QB (that declared as a true junior) into the fire, and for good reason.

what if Clausen outplays Moore by a wide margin in training camp? it's possible because he's well versed in NFL offenses. the Panthers' offense is similar to what he ran in college

I think Moore will be fine, but in a contract year, Fox might be more willing than usual to hedge his bets on a guy like Clausen if he starts off strong in camp

"Notes on five notables from weekend camps:

• Armanti Edwards, second-round Carolina wideout. After a tough first day of NFL receiver work Friday, the converted Appalachian State quarterback (you'll recall he beat fifth-ranked Michigan at the Big House with three touchdown passes and one rushing in 2007) starred Saturday, making a couple of one-handed catches, one from fellow rookie Tony Pike. There's going to be pressure on Edwards to play a big role, and to play it early, after the Panthers dealt a 2011 second-round pick for the third-rounder they used to select him."

"CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- There was a white stretch Hummer limousine in the parking lot off the Carolina Panthers' practice fields Friday morning. For the record, it did not deliver Jimmy Clausen to his first NFL minicamp practice.

The limousine had nothing to do with Clausen. We don't know exactly what the limousine's purpose was or if it even involved the Panthers (the parking lot actually serves several businesses on Cedar Street). I didn't go out of my way to track down what was up with the limousine once I made sure of one thing.

“No, nothing to do with [Clausen] at all,'' a Panthers official said. "

"At the conclusion of Sunday’s three-day minicamp I asked Fox why the team traded strong safety Chris Harris, a three-year starter and key member of the secondary, to Chicago for Jamar Williams, a career backup linebacker and special teams player.
His response was interesting and refreshingly candid for a guy who normally says nothing.
"We've got a budget," Fox said matter-of-factly. "And that had something to do with it."
Ah, finally someone said it.
It’s about money."

such an obvious business decision ignoring football sense.

As much as I want the guy to do well for us, I gotta think the Armanti Edwards tradeup was similar -a business grab for the nearby ASU fanbase $$$ through a bad football football move.

Only upside is that since a sub-.500 season is likely, we're likely to have only given away a later round 2nd pick....

Why does everyone think we're gonna do so shitty next year? Cause we lost Brad Hoover? Cause we won't get 25 interceptions from Jake like we usually do? Cause Pep will take off 16 games for us instead of 13?

Are you guys forgetting that this core of players helped us to 12-4 2 years ago, thanks to our running attack which we mysteriously abandoned after scoring a rushing TD on our first possession versus Arizona? Might we not have lost by Arizona, at least as badly, if our QB didn't have SIX TURNOVERS? Do we not have the best running attack in the NFL? Did we not finish in the top 10 defensively last season? Did we not play just as well as any other team in the league over the last 3 games once Moore got his feet wet?

I just don't get all the gloom and doom about next year. Barring crazy injuries, I see us going 10-6 or better.

I mean maybe its just cause this is an NCSU board, but this is the franchise that has been to two NFC title games in the last 15 years...not the bball team with 1 Sweet 16 in the last 15 years or the football team with one double-digit win season in the last 15 years

yeah 3 NFC title games, my bad

and maybe I'm overly optimistic...but I don't think we'll be nearly as bad as some people are predicting

^well, 2 starters...considering Kemo got injured on the first day of training camp last year, I don't think his loss will be noticeable...and we won the last 3 games with Harris on the sidelines with injury

Hoov was a good FB for awhile and had good chemistry with the backs and o-line, but just like Harris, he was on the sidelines when we came alive at the end of the year...and we had drafted Fiametta to replace him soon enough anyway

We will also be getting Jordan Gross back who missed about the last half of the year with a broken ankle last year...that will only help

Fiametta was limited by injuries, but if he's healthy he should be a good option to catch passes out of the backfield

i remember him being a decent blocker as well, i can't imagine Fox drafting him if he wasn't capable

The Panthers are gonna miss Peppers a lot more than some of yous care to admit. Pass-rush is gonna suck, and there are veryfew pass-fishers who can play the run like Peppers (when he wants to).

Better hope Everette Brown doesn't turn out to be a complete bust.

I for one think the Panthers will do fine. I can see at leat 10 wins with this team. JD alone gave away at least 3 games. Our D is a lil revamped but still serviceable. And we have a RB tandem that is going to put fear into other Def. I am betting that our WR will be a surprise this year and really shock the league.

Go Panthers!!

Quote :
"Despite "rave reviews," Jimmy Clausen has a long way to go to unseat Matt Moore
Posted by Mike Florio on May 6, 2010 9:49 AM ET
On Wednesday, NFL Network's Jason La Canfora cited an unnamed team official in Carolina regarding the notion that rookie quarterback Jimmy Clausen drew "rave reviews" at a rookie minicamp, and that he could push Matt Moore for the starting job in 2010.

The unnamed team official probably has a reason for pushing that sentiment. For example, maybe the team official is a "Clausen guy," or maybe the team official wants to ensure that Moore realizes he needs to keep pushing to improve.

Either way, we're hearing that the weekend minicamp wasn't as successful for Clausen as advertised -- and that Moore isn't yet in danger of losing his job.

"The guys on the team believe in [Moore], Steve Smith believes in him . . . and the majority of guys respect him because he's a scrapper, and [coach John] Fox loves him," a source with knowledge of the situation said regarding Moore. (Of course, if that's fully accurate, why pick Clausen?)

We're told that Clausen already has pissed off multiple receivers and at least one tight end by "barking" at them during minicamp practice, and that receiver Steve Smith "basically thinks Jimmy is a punk." Though Clausen is regarded as "smart" and unlikely to make mental mistakes, the initial thinking is that he uses excessive confidence (to the point that it's being perceived by some as arrogance) to compensate for lack of arm strength, size, and overall athleticism.

The other side of the coin -- which was pushed heavily prior to the draft in the face of relentless criticism from ESPN's Todd McShay -- is that Clausen was elected a team captain at Notre Dame, that there was no tangible evidence of leadership problems with the Irish (except for the time he blamed a receiver for ignoring a route adjustment), and that he's a self-described "loving" and "caring" person (which always means that it's true).

Clausen possibly will develop into a great NFL quarterback. But his first weekend was rougher than advertised, and based on what we're hearing he's got a long way to go become the starter.

It's not impossible that he'll be the starter at some point in 2010, but it won't be a cakewalk, either."

Why not? Pretty much everyone that didn't have a vested interest in his success has been saying that for months...He fell so far in the draft for a reason.

I wish they wouldn't have drafted him, but I am extremely glad hurneys original bone headed plan of trying to move up to get him didn't work out.

the entire character thing is absolutely overrated. i could CARE LESS if you are a cocky asshole in the nfl as long as you produce. we all knew thats what kind of kid he is, and even smitty said that he'd rather have a cocky guy for a QB than a timid guy under center.

the bigger issue about rookies is the ridiculous amount of guaranteed money they make before even stepping on the field.
