Quote :
"A.J. Green Suspended

The Georgia WR Out 4 Games

University of Georgia football student-athlete A.J. Green must miss four games as a condition of becoming eligible to play again, according to a decision today by the NCAA student-athlete reinstatement staff.

The university declared the student-athlete ineligible for violations of NCAA agent benefits rules. According to the facts of the case submitted by Georgia, the student-athlete sold his Independence Bowl game jersey to an individual who meets the NCAA definition of an agent. Green has repaid the $1,000 value of benefits to charity. According to NCAA rules, an agent is any individual who markets or promotes a student-athlete.

During the reinstatement process, the NCAA staff reviews each case on its own merits based on the specific facts. Staff decisions are made based on a number of factors including guidelines established by the Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement, the student-athlete’s responsibility for the violation, as well as any mitigating factors presented by the university.

The university can appeal the decision to the Division I NCAA Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement, an independent committee comprised of representatives from NCAA member colleges, universities and athletic conferences. This committee can reduce or remove the condition, but it cannot increase the staff-imposed conditions. If appealed, the student-athlete remains ineligible until the conclusion of the appeals process.

Statement from A.J. Green
“I want to apologize to my coaches, teammates, and the Georgia fans for the mistake in judgment. I very much regret all that has taken place and the distraction that’s been caused. I’ve learned a valuable lesson and hope others can learn from my mistake. I can only focus my attention now on practicing and looking ahead to getting back with my teammates as quickly as possible.”

Statement from UGA head coach Mark Richt
“Certainly I’m disappointed with the outcome. However, we have games to play and that’s where our focus needs to be in the coming days and weeks. Other players will have to step forward and I’m confident they will do that.”

Georgia Director of Athletics Greg McGarity confirmed that the University will appeal the NCAA decision to the Division I NCAA Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement. "

I thought the ruling was the lineman recovered the fumble in the endzone.

So you have a timeout, 1 second, you're in looong field goal range and... you don't even try the FG?

When I first saw this play I thought you couldn't "fumble forward". Since Miss. St. recovered the ball shouldn't it be placed back where the fumbled occured? Or is this just an NFL rule?

[Edited on September 10, 2010 at 8:41 AM. Reason : V Yeah, I think you're right, it has to be 4th down]

I know that is an NFL rule, but I'm not sure about college. From the replay, you can see that the ball was coming out before the QB crossed the goal line and the OL recovered the ball and gave it to the official. It didn't help that the ref's mic wasn't working until you saw him signal TD after the review. I feel like I've heard of a rule in college about fumbling forward, but I think it has to be 4th down for the rule to be in play.

I'd say that was some NC State shit there, I still hate WVU.

Reminds me of our last second bball loss to WVU that would have put us in the NIT Semis.

pumped about the slate of games today. I got out of the 1st bday party for my wife's friend's daughter's birthday (party is starting at 4pm, yeesh), but I volunteered to help my uncle move at noon. Hes an Ohio State fan too, so we'll be done by 3:30.

looking forward to being productive early, and then vegging out on the couch for the rest of the day

Regarding Fowler saying "these students barely remember when ND was relevant."

I wonder if they were in school four years ago when Alabama was irrelevant?

on the 9am Gameday they asked if you could have a ticket to any game today which one would you pick. Mark May picked the Miami/OSU game, Lou Holtz's dumbass said Notre Dame vs. Michigan because theres no place like being in Notre Dame's stadium for a game. He's such a homer, it annoys the shit out of me

I don't know why they were 17pt favorites. (I'm glad I was able to get that line though)

Losing a player like Tebow or Hansbrough just creates too big of a vacuum to fill in a program.

Why is FAU playing a home game at Ford Field

--
Quote :
""This matchup has been scheduled for some time and was designed to be the opening game in our new on-campus football stadium," said Florida Atlantic Athletics Director Craig Angelos. "Because of the difficult financial climate, our completion date has been pushed back a year. Therefore, we considered how we could still use this game toward promoting and supporting our efforts to make the stadium a reality. We thought this neutral site would be an ideal way of benefiting the stadium effort.""

At one point during the UGA/USC game they were updating on the San Jose State/Wisconsin game, and made note to say that under Bret Bielema the Badgers are undefeated against non-conference opponents at home. While you have to give credit for defeating those opponents, who have they really played OOC that's worth meriting? Here's the OOC home games Wisconsin has played since Bielema took over.

2006
Bowling Green
Western Michigan
San Diego State
Buffalo

2007
Washington State (Pac-10 team, but still terrible)
The Citadel
Northern Illinois

2008
Akron
Marshall
Cal Poly

2009
Northern Illinois
Fresno State
Wofford

2010
San Jose State
Arizona State (Pac-10 team that's usually good, but not so much right now)
Austin Peay (I didn't even know that they had a football team, let alone one that played Division I ball)

Pretty pathetic if you ask me. If someone complains about our OOC schedule the past few years then they need to STFU. We've played Ohio State, Texas Tech, USF, Louisville, South Carolina, Pitt, and next Thursday we play Cincinnati.
