So by writing politicians, calling and complaining, boycotting, raising awareness...he's done nothing?[Edited on November 30, 2010 at 9:58 AM. Reason : lkj]

...yeah, you're just not worth responding to if you think all of that is the equivalent of 'wasting time'. By your logic, Matt Drudge didn't accomplish anything by posting articles on his website and simply raising awareness in the American public to this issue.Nope. He might as well just shut down his website because it isn't doing anything.Hell WikiLeaks, just raising awareness there too. Fuck it, that guy's doing nothing wrong.

How do you find the energy to manufacture stupidity in such great quantities?]
11/30/2010 10:23:35 AM
The reason this whole controversy accomplished anything (TSA allegedly shutting down the scanners) was that Americans went from not giving a shit (80+% in favor) to being opposed to these things (60%+ opposing). How? By word of mouth/internet/TV, threads like this one showing people what happened and getting into discussions about it.After the people realized, what then? They started to bitch. They bitched by writing, calling, stripping, taking videos, and saying they weren't going to fly. Not just one person did this, thousands did. Enough for the government to be all "oh shit, people are upset", and possibly enough saying they wouldn't fly if possible (what, 30%?) that maybe airlines starting putting pressure on it as well.So while McDanger may not have specifically caused someone to turn off a scanner, his complaints along with everyone else helped bring change.[Edited on November 30, 2010 at 10:25 AM. Reason : added TV][Edited on November 30, 2010 at 10:26 AM. Reason : although what 'change' I guess still needs to be seen]
11/30/2010 10:24:47 AM
^^ i'm pretty damn talented, that's how!but please, tell me EXACTLY how McDanger has affected a definite change...i'm curious as to what his sitting-on-his-ass-and-whining-on-teh-intarwebs approach has ACTUALLY accomplishedhow many of you canceled your tickets to fly because of this? how many of you protested in a march? how many of you did ANYTHING other than bitch about it? yeah, that's what i thought the difference is that i recognize that this isn't worth wasting my time over, while some of you aren't capable of understanding that there are far more important things to worry about than whether some dude may or may not be jacking off to your less-than-impressive dick pics
11/30/2010 10:27:02 AM
Ah, there's the personal insults. YEAH THAT'S SHOWS I GOT TO YA HAR HAR.I see the rational discussion is over.

lol at your one track mind. Completely incapable of listening to and understanding anyone's arguments. In response to the "how many people did something as a result of this thread" I skimmed a couple pages and found these.

Let's slow down on the vivid fantasies about what I'm up to and what I think I'm up toThis entire episode upsets me as a citizen, and so I wrote my congressman and called the airport to file a complaint with the administration there. Does this accomplish anything directly? No. But the guy at the airport told me that tons of people were calling in and complaining; they're between a rock and a hard place. The airports can more easily pressure politicians than I can, however (yay capital), so even though these actions have a small amount of influence, they have TONS more influence than, say, voting.Other than that, I do what I normally like to do on the internet; talk about shit, and bring up issues to other people. Probably at most a hundred people have read what I think about the scanners. So what? I'm not really in a position to soldier full-time, so this is what I can do.

I would encourage anyone who really does want to make a difference and change the way the country is run to consider a career in public policy. Get an education (I'm happy to recommend good policy schools); pick the area you're interested in changing; get a job at a think tank, national lab, university, or government agency; and go make it happen. There's an entire industry built around telling governments how best to conduct themselves, and I don't mean through anything greasy like lobbying. It's not difficult to set yourself up as an agent of change with real access to decision-makers.That is all.

Of course it's true. Do you think a site like deadseriousnews.com would have a false story?

Yes. I do.

this one was clever, but the rest of that site's "recent news" are downright stupid. * Cross-eyed policewoman becomes Internet sensation * Man arrested after ejaculating during TSA pat-down * Singapore to prosecute nose picking drivers * Porn shop discloses lottery winner’s other purchases * “National Gross-Out Day” called to protest TSA pat-downs * Dead man in mortuary impregnates womani mean, really.
