Bynum is 2 years younger than Howard, has a better offensive game, is a much better FT shooter (even though he's still not a good FT shooter), and as far as I know, isn't a self entitled prick who has asked for his coach to be fired

its pretty close...Howard puts up a little better numbers (except FT%) but he's also option #1 on his team and not 2 or 3 like Bynum...gotta figure Bynum would grab an extra rebound or two each game if he wasn't playing with Gasol

Kobe just being his usual self, riding his teammates coattails.
I'm thinking they get smashed tonight.
The Thunder do need to start taking this series more serious though. Benching Harden for half the game and playing scrubs like Fisher is just not showing the Lakers any respect. I'm not sure if they're just saving their energy for the Spurs, but I'd like to see them play for the win today and put an end to this series. 5/19/2012 6:32:04 PM |

agreed, it took blatant cheating and spectacular play by Wade for Miami to win that series.
So Kobe would have to play out of his mind AND the refs would have to cheat equally as bad as they did. (and JET getting ejected for Game 5) for us to assume Kobe wins that title.
^ i'm really surprised OKC isn't a significantly bigger favorite in this game. I don't think brooks is going to play a soft lineup tonight.
Don't forget Kobe was 9-25 FG in game 3. If he didn't have those 18 giftwrapped FTA's, he would have had another disastrous game. Can't bank on the refs for two in a row.

Kobe's career based on LONGEVITY has been quite amazing. He was a .200 type player for years. He's ceased to be one the past couple of years and fell off a steep cliff this year in particular to where he was a below average SG.
He was never a dominant ELITE type player like MJ, T-Mac, LBJ, Paul, Howard, etc were at the top of their games though.
He's always had the potential to be one I believe, but he never had the aspirations. He preferred shooting a ton and chasing scoring records and fame. Which is smart, because we all know with the scoring comes the $$$ 5/19/2012 9:42:46 PM |

Efficient scoring is the most important factor in basketball.
Inefficient scoring is essentially worthless.

you're joking right? You're coming at this like a 9 year old.
You don't get unlimited amounts of shots in a real basketball game. There are a finite amount of possessions.
This isn't your backyard where you keep going "3...2...1.....ehhhhhhh" right before you shoot. And if you miss you just replay the situation over and over again until you finally make it.
When you miss a shot in a real basketball game it hurts your team. It has an actual consequence and it effects the outcome of the game. 5/19/2012 9:55:16 PM |

Face's argument would be sound but he's forgetting one thing. Theres a shot clock and theres no stats for shotclock adjusted fg%. If there was, stats would become a little more important but STILL wouldn't tell the whole story. His logic still insists that teams are better off not shooting the ball once the shot clock is below 5. If the entry pass can't be made for a high % shot, just eat the ball instead of throwing up a risky shot.
Face needs to start watching games before he can understand how basketball works. He admits he missed the games and only reads stat sheet matrices and numbers crunched from a formula. Not going to cut it. 5/19/2012 10:12:09 PM |

When it's all said and done I just hope Kobe can manage to shoot 40% FG for the series.
He's at 36.8% right now.
It's a very small sample size but if he shot like that for the whole season he'd be ranked #403 right behind current superstars Jerry Stackhouse and Baron Davis.
(And ahead of noted sniper Kemba Walker, thanks MJ! No need to take a guaranteed stud like Faried or Leonard when there's a guy available that misses nearly every shot he takes) 5/19/2012 10:22:07 PM |

E-man, you are dead wrong. You're not intelligent enough to comprehend the formula.
The formula takes turnovers into account which is exactly what a shot clock violation is.
Also, the formula is WEIGHTED by position so Kobe's effectiveness is being compared to OTHER SG's.
Kobe isn't the only player in the league that has to take a shot at the end of the shot clock occasionally. You might argue that he takes a few more than most players because he often dribbles around aimlessly because he dislikes passing and is too washed up to get into the lane as frequently as other SG's... and if you took that argument you might be onto something.
I've missed like 10-12 playoff games TOTAL so far. I also check every box score. There have been many times in the past where I've thought someone had a pretty good/bad game and upon checking the box score I realized I was wrong. That's why you should always consult the box score before forming an opinion by relying on the fallible "eye test".

^^Watching the game in the context of plays made is more than an eye test. There are several types of plays that have a huge impact on the game that don't show up in the stat sheet.
Every sg doesn't have the same role as Kobe. Only the ones who play without a dominant pg or sf who is the closer. Also no one else on the lakers will jack up a shot late in the clock because they know kobe is on the team and shoots ~35% on bad shots. That is probably the highest bad shot fg% in the league. His teammates realize this and give him the ball in bad spots late in the clock.
Again, this affect is magnified by the fact that the best two teammates cannot handle the ball and the pg is not a shooting point guard.

Terrible half for OKC, not sure they can win this game they arent even trying to get loose balls or play defense.
Kobe had a pretty good half, but I agree with you guys these flops are getting annoying. When Lebron, Kobe, Wade, etc all just flop and get whistles it kinda kills the sport. Kobe has taken it to the next level where he flops WITHOUT the ball.
The Westbrook injury is actually interesting. The Thunder are a better team if they put Harden/Sefolosha together in the backcourt. The scary thing is that Brooks has a LOVE fest with Derek Fisher so he'll probably play Fisher instead and in that case they have no chance of winning the series if Westbrook isn't okay.
Making Harden guard Kobe while you have Sefolosha on the bench and Fisher in the game is just ridiculous on so many levels.
Cant believe i forgot to mention WHY THE FUCK IS BROOKS PLAYING PERKINS STILL?!?!
He is sinking this team. You can't play a guy who sucks 30 minutes a game under any circumstance. He can't rebound, he can't score, he sets illegal screens, he can't defend. Andrew Bynum might have the first ever quintuple double this game if they leave Perkins in on one leg.
Bynum in the first half 7-11 fg, 14 pts, 7 reb, 4 ast, 1 stl, 2 blk, 0 to. That's a good GAME already
