Mark Zuckerburg doesn't know how to use a damn iPhone:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/06/16/facebook-ceo-slams-iphone_n_612527.html
Quote : | "When Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wanted a new phone, he decided to switch to the iPhone. Given the complaints that ensued, he might have waited for the iPhone 4.
NBC Bay Area reports that the CEO decided to switch to the iPhone because his BlackBerry was "hurting his thumbs."
Within a few days, the iPhone honeymoon was over. Zuckerberg posted a complaint to his Facebook wall lamenting the device's battery life and the dropped calls he had experienced.
"This week I got an iPhone. This weekend I got four chargers so I can keep it charged everywhere I go and a land line so I can actually make phone calls," he wrote. (Image via VentureBeat)
In a later post, Zuckerberg quipped, "I'll probably get iPhone 4 if I don't switch to Android first." (The iPhone 4 will be available on June 24.)
The iPhone dis made the rounds on the blogosphere until the CEO decided removed it from his Facebook wall (or set it to "private")." |

He went from a phone that "hurts his thumbs" to a phone he can't seem to keep charged. This doesn't seem to be a problem for most other iPhone users.

I just get in the routine of plugging it in when power is available. It was a huge change from a phone that literally could last for 3 weeks (I had a special battery). I almost never run out of juice anymore. 6/16/2010 1:30:41 PM |

That's not what that article says at all.
It says he doesn't like it.
Also this was put out by NBC Bay Area, so he's probably in/near San Francisco where AT&T has problematic reception (at best).
And if there's one way to kill an iPhone battery quick, it's taking it to a place where service is "questionable"

After the last 24 hours, it's now plainly obvious that it's worth well more than $300 to be able to avoid dealing with AT&T.
But for real, why is that surprising to you? $300 seems a bit low, if you ask me. I certianly hope to get a little more than that for mine. iPhones have always sold for more than their subsidized 2 year commitment price. When the 3GS was new it sold at buy.com unlocked for $999. $300 a year later for a used phone in good shape...seems about right. 6/16/2010 2:57:17 PM |

so i'm sure this has been addressed but searching through this thread is extremely difficult...
say i get a new iphone4. my husband is on at&t, on a separate plan, and currently can text but can't send/receive pictures or get on the internet (no data). what would need to be done for him to use my iphone 3gs? can he add just a regular data plan online, switch the sim, and be done...or does it have to be an iphone data plan? he won't be a high data user.

At this point there is no such thing as an "iPhone data plan" (except for the people that are still grandfathered in with the $30 unlimited plan)
A data plan is a data plan, no matter if you're using a new iPhone or any other data capable phone. ] 6/16/2010 4:07:50 PM |

We're talking about Apple here. If there was a way for them to get you to buy personalized cables that only worked on your specific phone, I think they'd do it. I wouldn't COUNT on your old cables and chargers working on the 4, but then again I haven't heard anything about them not working. I'm leaning towards hesitantly guessing they'll work, but it's not a "safe bet" by any stretch of the imagination.6/16/2010 4:43:14 PM |

Well, true. But they haven't really changed the iPod connector since it came out (or I think it's been since the original model was introduced, at least), and none of the components like the battery are likely going to draw a lot more power (like the iPad). 6/16/2010 4:56:46 PM |
El Nachó special helper 16370 Posts user info edit post |
They haven't changed the physical connector, no, but you go ahead and try to charge your iPhone 3GS with a cable designed for a 1st get iPod and tell me how that works out. Hell, try using one from a 1st get iPhone even. And don't even get me started on video cables. They've changed the compatibility of those with firmware. They don't even need to release a new piece of hardware to screw people on those. 6/16/2010 5:04:06 PM |

first gen iphone cable works fine on my 3gs. a lot of the original equipment used 12v (firewire) charging instead of 5v usb. i can't imagine them switching to anything else since it's going to sync over usb so it has to use 5v anyways. 6/16/2010 5:43:03 PM |

I don't recall offhand if there was any difference in power needs between the original iPhone and the 3Gs, but from y experience, third party manufacturers of chargers always seem to go for the absolute minimum amount of power to be functional. It's possible just none of your chargers are up to the task. A cable is a cable though as far as the iPhones are concerned. 6/16/2010 8:06:29 PM |

If you're talking about 1st party Apple cables, you might be correct, although I still don't think so. If you're talking about any old cable, (which is what it sounds like) that's not true. As I said before, I have 6-7 cables I ordered from deal extreme to use with my 1st get iPhone that don't work in any capacity with my 3GS. I even tried giving them to my sister to see if they would work with her phone and they didn't. So no, a cable is not a cable.6/16/2010 8:16:17 PM |
