Quote : | "Still on the board A significant number of North Carolina's top in-state prospects have already made their college decisions - 54 of 92 with offers from current major or soon-to-be major programs have committed.
Those players have made pledges to a wide variety of schools ranging from Brigham Young to Kansas State to Georgia, Notre Dame and Texas.
The most highly rated prospects remaining uncommitted are Havelock running back Darrell Scott, Greenville defensive end Kentavius Street, Winston-Salem defensive end Lorenzo Featherston, Durham running back Donte Thomas-Williams and Durham wide receiver Trevion Thompson.
N.C. State is looking strong in the battle for Scott, Street and Thompson. If the Wolfpack could land all three, it would mark a banner finish to a successful class for first-year head coach Dave Doeren.
North Carolina is also a player for Thompson, as well as Featherston.
Thomas-Williams is likely headed out of state to either Clemson, Florida State, Notre Dame or West Virginia." |

Fayetteville Observer article on 2014 commit Jefferie Gibson:
Quote : | "Gray's Creek quarterback Jeff Gibson and second-stringer Derrin Little started practice with a relaxed game of catch, which gave Gibson an opportunity to show off one of his primary talents.
Projected to play wide receiver, or possibly safety, at N.C. State, Gibson snagged Little's passes with just an open right hand.
"Just getting my hands ready for the next level," Gibson said with a smile.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Gibson committed to the Wolfpack two months ago, picking new coach Dave Doeren's program over Clemson, and he showed up for the first official day of preseason practice with N.C. State bands on both arms.
After playing safety while senior Joe Wallace worked at quarterback last season, Gibson has moved under center to lead coach David Lovette's run-first offense. Gray's Creek is also moving forward without departed fullback Ken McDowell, who ranked eighth in the state with 2,684 rushing yards as a senior, but Gibson is surrounded by plenty of talent.
He has a powerful arm, and he's tough to tackle with his combination of size and speed.
"He's got probably the strongest arm of any kid we've had here since I've been here, maybe anybody I've ever been around," Lovette said. "With his long arms, he's got some levers on them and can sling it, and he's just real athletic. We did some stuff last year with Joe running the football, so we're going to do some of the same things this year."
Gibson was known more for his basketball skills when he moved from Gloster, Miss., to North Carolina before his freshman year of high school, and he's averaged 13.5 points per game over the last two seasons. Playing junior varsity football as a freshman, he attracted immediate attention because of his long, lean frame and ability to crack block.
Coaches called him "Thriller" because, like Michael Jackson, Gibson often wore only one glove, and he has lived up to that nickname. With three junior varsity quarterbacks hurt, Gibson stepped in at quarterback against Terry Sanford and ran for a 25-yard touchdown on a waggle play.
As a sophomore on the varsity team, he intercepted a pass in the season opener. He picked off another pass a week later against Pine Forest and showed off his athleticism by returning a punt 70 yards for a touchdown in the opening minutes of a 42-13 rout.
Gibson was a receiver for most of that season, catching three passes for 34 yards and one touchdown, and the Bears needed him more at safety last year. He made 69 tackles and recorded four interceptions, scoring twice on returns.
"One of the guys has said he's a safety in a wide receiver's body," Lovette said. "I still think he's probably going to be better with the ball in his hand at the next level. He got recruited by everybody in the world as a safety, but he's special with the ball in his hand."
Gibson will have a chance to play some safety as a senior. He's considered the backup to Justis Richardson, but running the offense will be the priority.
Even though Gibson will spend most of his time at a position that didn't factor into his college recruitment, he's having fun with the switch to quarterback.
"I get the ball in my hands every play," Gibson said, "so I won't ever complain about that."" |

^^^Street said a while back that he is planning on taking all his OV's and won't announce until November or even signing day, so we still have a battle for him after he visits some of these other places. Remember he didn't "fall in love" with NC State until his first unofficial visit here, so could see some other place making a big jump with a great visit. Was really hoping he'd commit before taking any OV's, haha.
Featherston is a big Clemson lean. Have heard varying reports on Scott/Thompson, have heard top 3 for both, but some have put us potentially leading for both but then others have us in 3rd, so not really sure what is accurate. Probably going to take a great OV to land either of them. 8/12/2013 8:07:56 AM |

Reading his reasons for decomitting from ND he is definitely looking to go somewhere close to home. So you would figure UNC, USC, NCSU, Clemson, UT, VT. Of course in this state it means UNC which is where he can go to play football and not worry about classes and get free cars, its hard to compete with that if your dreams are the NFL. 8/20/2013 9:17:29 PM |

He supposedly has a 3.4 GPA and has an offer from Duke, so the whole "no classes" thing may not be a deciding factor. 8/20/2013 9:41:07 PM |

I think we're all-in on Scott, think our staff feels pretty good about our chances.
Everyone wants to move UNC to Hood's top spot because they were in his final 2 previously, and it's a logical move to make. But I think he's going to open it back up, take some OV's, and he'll commit in a couple of months.
Could see USC getting involved in case they miss out on Scott, would love for them to cool on Scott and go hard for Hood. 8/21/2013 8:34:57 AM |

i wonder what happened on hood's visit to ND:
Quote : | "Hood's father, Vee Hood, told The Charlotte Observer that something happened recently while his son was on an unofficial visit to South Bend, Ind., and that was a big factor in his decision to open things back up.
"Something changed his mind immediately," Vee Hood told The Observer. "He was scared to tell us. I said there's no need to be scared. It's his decision. I told him, 'You've got to be happy wherever you choose to go.'" |

I don't know if anyone else is watching the high school football game on ESPN right now. But the kid playing quarterback on Byrnes (SC) is a pretty good. Shuler Bentley is his name and he has a verbal to Old Dominion. A little on the "short" side, 6', runs a 4.6 40, arm looks great, and his sideline demeanor looks great. Real leadership qualities. Talking to his teammates about the coverage, making adjustments between series, just really being a good leader and involved more than just going out there and throwing the ball. I know we are deep in the QB position, but I would imagine he gets a few looks from SEC or ACC after today.

^Oh so how many QB's did we have on roster last year? Or the year before? We have more QB's on roster this year than the previous 2 years. I believe 4 or 5 is what we usually have, but 7 is more than normal. My previous point is that we have a lot of guys at the position. I don't see us pushing hard after him, when we have a lot more holes to fill. Sorry if I offended anyone. 8/25/2013 4:45:31 PM |

not really, he specifically said he wasn't talking about quality.
We do have an above average number of qbs on the roster.
After Brandon Mitchell leaves, and if Pete Thomas doesn't transfer, we should have him, Jacoby, and McClendon next year, who were all 4-stars in high school. and Manny Stocker who was a high 3-star. And Shirreffs is supposedly a decent QB too, although it seems that he won't be playing there. 8/25/2013 5:21:58 PM |
LudaChris All American 7946 Posts user info edit post |
With the position change, don't think we're "full" at QB, esp. with speculation that Stocker won't be here when the season ends.
With all the attrition in college football, esp. at the QB position, don't really see a top flight QB worrying about it. I mean Florida brought in a 5* QB that came in and beat out Brissett for the job despite Brissett being there before him. I imagine most 4 and 5* QBs are highly competitive and think they can win the job given the chance. I think it would be harder if say Brissett had 3 years to play and came out and lit it up this year and solidified his starting spot for the next 2-3 years. We're going to have 2-3 QBs on roster next year and potentially none of them with a ton of starting experience for us(barring Pete Thomas playing an extended amount this year). 8/26/2013 9:54:31 AM |
