besides you've never seen me so you don't know if i'm fat or not
but i have gained 20lbs so its a problem. a big one cause i don't want to ahve to buy another suit
the good news is: target. usually have cheap suits that look fine. and if i can't find one there and have to buy a new real suit its easy to tailor things that are too big. so WHEN i lose weight i can make it fit
but i'm mad. and my self esteem is like -900 right now 6/16/2010 8:45:24 PM |

what can we do to make you feel better about your self esteem?
I'm a fat ass (actually i have no ass) but it's rare that I'm at a -900. 6/16/2010 8:50:32 PM |
khcadwal All American 35165 Posts user info edit post |
apparently mine is ALL ass because that is what doesn't fit into my clothes/where my clothes are tight. they are fine around the waist but really tight around ass and thighs
nothing can be done! i did it to myself. i will regain my self esteem when i lose weight.
but since that won't happen before tuesday i'm going to have to drag my ass to an interview in a cheap target suit
i'm only at a -900 because of that (not being able to fit into something). usually i don't feel as bad about myself unless i see my pile of designer jeans in the closet (that i also can't fit into atm) 6/16/2010 8:52:59 PM |

I've had short(ish ) hair since APRIL.
I just today did something new with it (i.e., something other than a ponytail) for the day.
And I'm pleased. Since I know I make better tips when I feel pretty, since my behavior changes accordingly, I actually girl it up a little. So I just used long, strong bobby pins in an X shape to hold the hair back. It worked: I went driving for a bit, and it stayed put; I didn't have to fiddle iwth my hair AT ALL at work. Fucking fantastic.
The best pics I care to get right nwo.
AnD SURPRISE BUTTSECKS!
Also, for those I'm ont friends with on facebook: I knew I'd been losing weight since getting out here; the onyl pair of pants that fit anymore are the ones that used to be too small. Based on that alone, I'm down at least 2". The scale hadn't budged, hadn't budged, hadn't moved at all, and then, bam, -8lbs one day. I don't wear my engagement/wedding rings at work, for fear that they'll fall off while I'm washing my hands.

nice job xtine!
on another note - i have a job interview on thursday and i'm debating on what to wear.
i have an awesome button down black dress from banana with a collar and three quarter length sleeves that i would love to wear, but i'm not sure if it's businessy enough.
should i just go safe and wear a suit? i have a nice summer suit (that i need to pick up from the dry cleaners) that would definitely work well.
thoughts? 6/22/2010 10:52:51 AM |
Samwise16 All American 12710 Posts user info edit post |
If you're not sure whether it'll be appropriate, I say don't wear it... That just shows you'll be wondering that same thing when you get to the interview and it might affect how you present yourself - maybe you wouldn't look as confident, etc...
And honestly, sometimes safe is better. I'd rather be the safe one and let my personality shine through instead of coming in with an outfit that makes the interviewer go "wtf?"
(Not saying your dress is like that I was mainly referring to people who roll up in pinstripe suits with crazy heels or flashy shirts and jewelry, etc or with a skirt that has a slit that starts at your knees and goes literally two inches below your ass cheek)

hey now, there is nothing wrong with pin stripe suits!
my bf went to his first hot yoga class yesterday & loved it. ive never been to a "real" hot yoga class, the instructor at my gym usually just cranks up the heat. its prob pretty similar. anyway, when i go out to visit him next week he wants to take me to a class...
im kind of worried he's going to outperform me im not very flexible and he's super athletic 6/22/2010 11:07:58 AM |
Samwise16 All American 12710 Posts user info edit post |
A pinstripe suit at a grad school interview has always been a no-no.. and that's coming from multiple directors
I'm sure it's different in the "real world" but let's be honest -- a gray and white pinstripe suit that doesn't fit properly and a crazy pink button down never looked good on anyone, and doesn't look professional
(Saw that on a girl at an interview... she also forget to shave her neck beard :\ ) 6/22/2010 11:10:02 AM |
LunaK LOSER :( 23634 Posts user info edit post |
interesting, i had never heard that before (about the pin stripe)
i have a charcoal gray suit with a light white pin stripe that i used to wear a ton during the winter and i love it...
did they directors say why they're not fans of them? (oh and i totally understand about wearing suits that don't fit right or with the completely wrong accessories) 6/22/2010 11:14:57 AM |
Samwise16 All American 12710 Posts user info edit post |
Well, keep in mind this is grad school.. The directors mainly said they're flashy and it doesn't put you in the best light when first meeting you... I'd imagine it has something to do with them wanting to know you can do the work in the program, not that you can make out a snazzy outfit 6/22/2010 11:20:32 AM |
NCSUWolfy All American 12966 Posts user info edit post |
well obvi any suit that doesn't fit right, with a loud shirt & flashy jewelry is a no no
pin stripe is classic. if for your particular interview they're saying not to wear it then i guess they have some weird preference because you're right, its different in the real world
in fact... its almost worse. i cringe when i see how some people "dress professional" ugh! open toed shoes.... bare legs.... sleeveless shirts! plunging neck lines. those girls in the tight suits & hot pink shirts still wear that crap when they get real jobs.
anyway, i agree, dont wear the dress if you're not sure. a suit is always more professional than a dress. and depending on how "old school" the place of interview is, skirt suits are sometimes (secretly) preferred for women. it varies but anyone who thinks that is a relic of the past doesn't know the half of it 6/22/2010 11:21:33 AM |
Samwise16 All American 12710 Posts user info edit post |
I'm sorry, but not every pin stripe suit is classic, imo. You'll always have ugly pinstripe suits and you'll always have ugly classic black suits.
And it wasn't just a particular interview... I've never heard from a grad school person pinstripe was ok or preferred, even in my "prepare for grad school" book it said stay away from pinstripe. Like I said, I don't think it's a job thing, just a grad school thing. 6/22/2010 11:23:57 AM |
LunaK LOSER :( 23634 Posts user info edit post |
yea i'll go with the suit...

since i've been losing weight pretty steadily since i've last had to be in this stuff - curious to see what fits and what doesn't 6/22/2010 11:26:25 AM |

i see your point with not wanting to come off as "snazzy" in pin stripe but seriously, you will find pin stripe in every office building in america right now at this second. its not a trendy thing! but it certainly has been taken to that level with some cheaper & lower end suit styles. of course this is your grad school program, you'll do whatever it takes to get in, so if they give a recommendation it makes sense to take it. i just dont want people to think that pin stripe = bad for everything
and honestly, most college aged people (who are going into grad school) don't know the first thing about dressing professional. im not saying anything against you in particular, there are always exceptions. my guess is that the guidelines are made to be fool proof. black is harder to fuck up!
and you're right there are ugly pin stripe & ugly black suits out there in no short supply! (and i never said every pin strip was classic. i said the style is classic, just like black is classic)
lunak, thursday is close but if you need any alterations made on your suits or clothing, a lot of tailors have next day service! i took my pin stripe pants (which for the record are very SUBLTE stripes) to the tailor yesterday & can pick them up after 5 today. 6/22/2010 11:42:19 AM |

i refuse to buy jack rogers sandals because i would never wear them enough to warrant $100 sandals...however...i will pay $20 for the target knock offs...

my guess is they will look terrible because i have a weird wide foot...but here's hoping

^ let me know how they are
and to join the suit discussion, i wore something similar to this in an interview yesterday. i took off the jacket when i got in cause like EVERYONE had theirs off and it was like 238473029487932 degrees and i was already melting to death. this isn't the EXACT dress - mine is prettier - navy with a little bit more sleeve (sleeveless stuff weirds me out even though "professionals" wear it - but then when you take off your jacket i feel like...inapprop. i mean maybe if i HAD a job, but not for an interview so i made sure to wear something with defined sleeves).
i was debating between that and one of my skirt suits. no way in gods name was i wearing fucking pants. plus, skirts/dresses are apparently more professional for women.

Out here, I'm not going to gamble with my time: I'm still fat, and CO is ranked as the 2nd fittest state in the US. I'd consider it if I were down in the plains If I drop 2 more sizes, I think they'll be a viable option.
I'm also trying to find a tailor out here...but as long as I'm at work, I'll take the time to see how cheap I can snag some clothes Ugh. $25/pr at old navy. The jeans I'm wearing now are the ones I paid $8/pr for 4 years ago.
