On 5/22 I am leaving Verizon.
I am gonna miss LTE, but tired of getting raped for the voice usage, the highest share plan they have is 2000 minutes, thats just not enough without any mobile being free...
Sprint has 3000 minutes with any mobile any time, and unlimited data.
I hear WiMax sucks and most people that have it on their phones leave it turned off because its horrible on battery life, not that much faster, and coverage is spotty. 3/23/2012 11:51:43 AM |

I have sprint, and I will say the coverage isn't as good as Verizon or ATT was, but what you get is way better for the money. 4g is spotty, but when I looked at switching over to verizon, I decided I'd just deal with it. I do leave it off most of the time when I'm out and about, but if I know i'm gonna be somewhere in service range, I'll fire it up

is there anything on the horizon worth upgrading to from my evo 4g? It's almost two years old now, but nothing really strikes me as being that much of an upgrade like it did when I got it. 3/28/2012 11:35:30 PM |

^I'm waiting until LTE to use my phone upgrade. I don't see the point in getting one now as though there are some nice updates, I think the better network would help more. That and you can buy a phone on craigslist or ebay for not too much more than the upgrade cost and then can still use it when it comes out. 3/29/2012 8:23:58 AM |

All true. I had 4G Sprint phones for a couple years and the WiMax "service" was complete shit. I don't know if WiMax towers don't transmit that far, but I never seemed to be near one around Raleigh. And when you were lucky enough to be in range, it's not like your phone would auto connect to the tower, I had to search and connect every time. Worthless. I just left that shit turned off and dealt with Sprint's slow 3G service. After I couldn't take any more of their crap data service I switched to Verizon for their superior 3G and 4G networks...but yeah, the $texas they charge for voice does suck.

Oh that's right...they're planning Baltimore, Kansas City, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio by "mid-2012." We'll see if even that small amount of coverage happens as planned...

http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/03/29/sprint-says-no-more-wimax-devices-ever-promises-to-launch-15-lte-devices-by-years-end/
Quote : | "It's only been a couple years since the EVO launched as not only the first WiMax phone, but the first "4G" phone (by carrier reckoning). Now, though, Sprint says that not only will there be no more WiMax phones, which we knew earlier, but no more WiMax devices at all. That means hotspots and tablets will also lack any WiMax antennae. Don't worry, though. Sprint has promised 15 LTE devices by year's end.
Sprint's LTE plans have been no secret, although not without a fair amount of bumps in the road. Still, Sprint insists that its LTE plans are on schedule. So far, no LTE markets have been lit up, but Sprint should be activating our favorite network acronym in a few cities by mid-2012. "Mid-2012", by an unsurprising coincidence, is also around the time that the so-called EVO One is rumored to land. An early June release date for an EVO sequel would follow the pattern, and June is just about as mid as 2012 can get. If the information we've heard is true, and Sprint's variant of the HTC One X does, in fact, carry LTE, Sprint users' long wait to taste those high-bandwidth waters may finally be over in a few short months. The most interesting tidbit, though, is what Sprint's Senior Vice President of Networks, Bob Azzi, had to say about how this new LTE network would affect Sprint's bottom line. Azzi said that Sprint's new network plans would result in a 50 percent reduction in cost per gigabyte to deliver data, and also a 50 percent reduction in cost per minute to deliver voice.
This is great news for Sprint, which hasn't exactly been swimming in cash lately. However, it does raise the question, if Sprint is able to cut delivery costs by 50% with a new CDMA-LTE network, why are other carriers so insistent that data costs for their fancy new networks are rising, not falling? Perhaps the number of customers gobbling up data is growing at a much faster rate (which is almost certainly true), or maybe Sprint has some kind of deal with other LTE carriers that reduce its costs.
Azzi also notes that Sprint's Network Vision plan "will be nearly complete" by 2013. It's unclear just what this plan entails, or how much of the country it plans on covering in LTE. In fact, given the recent upheavals with Sprint's partners, we'd be surprised if even Sprint knows for sure. Still, good to see that the failed Lightsquared deal hasn't set Sprint too far back. Or so it seems." |

Anyone know a workaround to use HBO Go with an HDMI cable? I assumed I'd be able to stream to my phone and display on the TV, but when I plug in the HDMI cable it stops the app and tells me to unplug the cable to proceed. Netflix works fine, so it looks like they just don't want you watching HBO on anything but your phone.
I have a Galaxy S2 with a HDMI breakout cable that plugs into the micro-USB charging port.

From what I've research already, it doesn't look too good but....
...can you use a Samsung Galaxy S2 on the Verizon network if the phone has already been unlocked? I have a feeling the answer is no considering Verizon works on a CDMA network...
Any information on this would be helpful. 4/3/2012 9:32:04 AM |
