Reasons for that ?Why would you buy a "bargin" brand when more reputable brands are basically the same price?

idk...depends on what you're judging on.I built my AR for that price and I think it's a fine gun.I do like the furniture on that AK though.
7/26/2012 12:58:51 AM
yeah i think i have a preference of piston operated vs DI so that gives me GSR goggles (beer goggles?) too and its nearly impossible to get a AR-15 with a decent gas piston setup for that price
7/26/2012 4:51:26 AM
the trigger in the vepr is dogshit.its why i didnt buy one.and youre either going to need to take it to a gunsmith or engineer something yourself because veprs dont have an aftermarket like AKs.its just different enough to be a pain in the ass.super vepr? even worse. the different safety system there fucks it in the ass, and everyone that wants to drop that much on an AK flocks to arsenal anyway.even in the most accurate AK imaginable the trigger is always going to be the weak link, not the gas assembly.on that note, does anyone know anything about IO Inc and the 100% american made AKs being built here in monroe NC? seems years ago they were just assembling kits and then ran into some legal trouble over unregistered automatic weapon parts, but now all their parts are domestically made.for example, i think mossberg is making their barrels? i dont know if an american made AK is necessarily a good thing, but its neat they are here in NC. i might see if i can arrange a tour of their facility for myself sometime.the reviews of their newest models seem promising! they guarantee 2 moa and have a lifetime warranty. i wonder if theyd let me buy one on the spot? hand pick one? ^^ FYI: Del-Ton is also located in NC.

Honestly unless you want a LaRue or LMT, Noveske etc. just buy as cheap an AR as you can afford, learn how to properly keep it clean and polish the shit out of the feed ramps and chamber.

Even if that treaty passes didn't the supreme court decide that international treaties do not supersede the constitution? Think that was back in the 50's but should still hold.

Any of you guys who know AK's have suggestions for which type of AK's to look for and a reasonable price?I know basically nothing about those guns but am thinking about picking a couple up to mess around with and keep as investment pieces in case another AWB comes along some day.I have an SKS that takes AK mags so I already have a nice supply of 30 round mags but feel that I should have at least one AK in my collection. Not looking for top of the line or anything but want to get one of the nicer ones so that if I ever go to sell it (not that I have ever actually sold a gun...) I won't have as hard of a time.

IMO Arsenal represents the best value. These are new guns (Saigas) that are shipped here in sporter configuration and reconfigured to probably the closest thing you can get to what the Russian Army actually uses (semi auto of course). The fit and finish is top notch; not even in the same league as those fuckers from Century (for example) that just cobbled together a bunch of hack jobs.On the other hand youre looking at at least $850 (per Atlantic Firearms) for a standard configuration.Or you could just buy a Saiga and convert it yourself.Or if you want the real deal it seems people prefer WASR-10s. Just be careful where you get it from (I dont personally like guns with mix matched parts from different countries and years and then throw in a US trigger for good measure, etc).VEPRs are nice (except the triggers) but wont use the magazines you have and lack an aftermarket in general.I am currently researching IO Inc simply because they make 100% American made AKs here in NC (Monroe), but reviews on them are mixed. Seems their newest batch is nice, but to get a nice one puts the price in Arsenal territory (again, get an Arsenal).Definitely get an Arsenal if you just want *one* AK. Ill probably be buying an AK74 from them shortly. Just pay attention to the model numbers because it gets very confusing (especially without a picture), Different number codes mean black, or green, or plum furniture, or Warsaw Pact stock length, or NATO stock length... Just make sure you do your research and get exactly what you want.Decide early if/how you want to mount optics. Some guns dont have side mounts, some have dustcover mounts (typically crap), some will support gas tube rails, others wont (because of handguard clearance), some have quadrails, etc.Im assuming since you mentioned an SKS and magazines then youre using the 7.62x39 caliber. This is good, most barrels are fine... Chrome barrel is unaffected by corrosive ammo but some folks say less accurate?Be careful in the 5.45x39 caliber, some US barrels that are used in crappy AK74 clones are cut for 5.56/.223 and keyhole all to shit.Thats all I got for now-
7/27/2012 12:24:27 PM
Good deal, thanks for the advice. I will be sticking with the standard 7.62x39 and not looking at optics or anything fancy, if I want that I will use my AR-15 or AR-10, I just feel that I need some more commie guns in my life and what gun collection is complete without an AK?
7/27/2012 12:28:07 PM
Any reason to get a 10mm? I'm getting rid of my .44 in favor of something else. Thinking Glock 20.Maybe hunt with it this fall.
7/27/2012 10:51:42 PM
anyone have a good basic shotgun they want to sell for a good price? (something my wife could shoot if she needed to)
7/27/2012 11:37:04 PM
I have a Remington 870 20 gauge youth model that works well for my wife. I would say get one of those or the mossberg equivalent (not sure the model). Probably can get a good price at Dicks or Bass Pro if you are near one.
7/28/2012 12:08:18 AM
^^Plenty of reasons. Best damn handgun cartridge out there.

Welp, all the gun stores around here seem to just carry Century AK's. Cheaper Than Dirt actually has a showroom about 35 miles from me and they show some Arsenal's in stock but don't really feel like spending close to two hours in traffic today (Dallas traffic always sucks). I would rather buy second hand anyways so I don't have to deal with all the gun store commando's...I called one place to see if they had any AK's in stock and what makes and before I could finish I got, "No, no we don't carry "that" stuff. We have AR-15's."Good thing I can order most things from the internet (I know I could order an AK, I just don't feel like messing with an FFL transfer).

7/28/2012 11:25:44 AM
So if someone doesn't have the make of an AK, how can you tell what it is? Found a guy with a decent looking one (to my AK noobishness) but all he knows about it is, "Genuine Polish underfolder with chrome lined Polish barrel."I asked him the make and he said he wasn't sure. Here is a pic, not sure if that makes a difference...He wants $700 for it, good deal or need more info?[Edited on July 28, 2012 at 12:21 PM. Reason : .]
7/28/2012 12:16:37 PM
need more info.there should be a stamp/engraving toward that front of the receiver (likely on the bottom) that will tell who assembled it here in the US as well as the serial number for the weapon
7/28/2012 2:39:01 PM
Good deal, thanks!I will admit, I had no idea the laws for AK's were so ridiculous that we can't just import them Never really looked into commie guns until now, the SKS I have was a gift from my dad that he bought before the 94 AWB so I didn't need to research that.
7/28/2012 2:55:09 PM
that picture doesnt display for me.imo the only polish rifles worth that much (or possibly more) is a beryl.and those arent underfolders.in reality thats the price of a barely used arsenal ($700ish). still the best way to go.my next rifle purchase will probably be from buds.
7/28/2012 8:58:00 PM
Yeah I think I am just going to get an arsenal and not worry about it. Of course now after reading up on AKs I want to get an 80% receiver and build one myself Maybe that will be my next project
7/28/2012 9:23:49 PM
I'm finishing up my second AK build (Yugo M70 underfolder built on a milled receiver). It is really pretty easy if you are remotely mechanically inclined. However, with the prices on parts kits these days, it won't be much cheaper than buying an assembled gun.
7/28/2012 10:14:38 PM
I am sure I could build one with a prebuilt receiver, I think it would be cool to build the receiver too. Would need a few more tools but what guy doesn't like an excuse to buy new tools? After building a few ARs I really have an appreciation for building guns, you really get to understand the inner workings.

7/29/2012 1:52:12 AM
Just bought my XDS.Carried it tonight...love it.
7/29/2012 2:00:41 AM
^^have you considered the one of the hi-point carbines in .40? they're ugly and i think the biggest mags available are 15 rds, but most owners report great reliability.
7/29/2012 6:59:47 AM
I have heard great things about them and seen multiple reviews. No they aren't eye-candy and I understand they can be somewhat picky on ammo, however my understanding is they perform as well as the sub2k with a little more bulk/weight. I've potentially found a sub2k in .40 glock at a reasonable price. I'll check it out tomorrow.I prefer the sub2k since I have a G27 and would like a system.[Edited on July 29, 2012 at 2:39 PM. del-ton ARs have good reputation?i notice they have a lifetime warranty to original purchaser.i just want a nice shooter, 16 inch barrel, open sights/carry handle, collapsible stock.http://www.del-ton.com/DTI_16_DT_4_Rifle_p/ra2m16-0.htmmaybe something like this?the colt might be a bit too pricey. is bushmaster better than del-ton? i see those at walmart (dont know if thats good or bad).
7/29/2012 8:14:52 PM
bushmaster = freedom group = cerberus capital managementi wouldn't buy one if it gave daily blowjobsdel-tons have a good reputation as far as budget ARs go. my uncle built one on a PSA stripped lower not long ago and it shoots great.[Edited on July 29, 2012 at 8:43 PM.
