yeah of course video poker and slots are boring

but they're a big draw, especially at a 98% payout and all that bullshit. factor in the fact that the 98% gets put right back in and they're big time moneymakers. and people buy drinks and stuff. its like selling a cheap pizza and hoping someone adds a topping for 2 bucks!!11

plus you dont have to pay dealers and you are only limited by space. these 9/6 bitches are making good money in test markets right now. plus in a lot of places you really cant have much besides video poker with a jpg video ho asking which cards you wanna hold.

but we also have a project in the works, a 6 player max table with an "computerized" dealer. think partypoker 6man in a real casino. chairs and all, with the old school pacman style sit down display. networked video texas holdem. should be badass if it pans out. our version will be in testing in various indian reservations across the lovely deserts of the US around summer 07

People dont buy drinks

Would they put the computerized 6max tables out on the floor? I can't imagine how terrible the play would be there if they spread .25/.50NL or something.

"People dont buy drinks "

they do where gambling is frowned upon. actually i take that back. they do where certain live card games are left out that might exclude a high roller. poker is whats big in casinos now, and bill doesnt give a fuck how much he can bet on blackjack, he wants to play "that poker they got on the tv"

like places where they dont have cards. with the exceptions of places that i have been actively trying to sell my machines, i have paid for drinks in quite a few casinos dude

Quote :
"how do you keep random bystanders from seeing everyones hole cards?"

we have pondered that, and thats one main reason the first versions wont be in real testing until july. the faceup button will reveal about 5% of the back corners of the card, similar to how the guys check their cards on tv (gives it that "pro/espn" feel also haha). the screens... i'll have to get pictures up, but think about the privacy screen on a laptop. in order to see someones cards, you have to be at the right angle(which shouldnt go unnoticed, just like you cant hover shoulders on real card games) and you have to be looking at the second the button is hit to show the corners of the facedowns

im sure youve seen the games in the casinos without cards, the multiplayer video poker crap with the "hot babe" dealer and the fake cards.... its for places that cant have cards, but wanna have a 6 man table and still have the feel of live poker, the shit talking, all that. but at the same time, its something different, and it actually allows for poker. plus the rake is all configurable, and the casino can even bonus you to go rake free for X# of hands at a time if they so choose as a reward.

its cool from all sorts of standpoints, i just hope it works. its in no way a HUGE project right now, but we have a few places onboard that really like us and really want to give us the freedom to test games of chance (that run within the law, of course) in their casinos

the video poker is working out well, but we had a crazy bug hit last night. got a call and had to network in to the motherfuckin tohono nation and see what the trouble was. somehow a machine got down to -2 credits, and let the guy keep playing at his bet rate. he hit 4 aces (on a jacks+), and won "big"... but really didnt have the money when he played. he just kinda hit bet again when he was broke because of instinct, and the bet was higher than 2.

the bug has been isolated, but since that was our fault, we went ahead and let him get paid, even though he really didnt have the money in. thats what sucks about testing. tie goes to the loser :/

My friend just got back from a cruise. He said there was an electronic 10 person table at the casino, and it was a pretty big hit. Is this something you had a hand in designing or is it the competition?

Yeah that's exactly how I imagined that whole thing going down. 80% of the people were there to play a friendly game with their own money. Guy running it is making a little money from the game for his time and provides drinks just like anyone playing a non cash game would have at a party. Some idiot thinks he's going to be gangster and rolls up to the game with some drugs and a gun. Everyone else gets the same treatment as this guy and the drugs/weapons become the main story.

And everyone knows that cops have cash games in thier spare time. It's all rediculous. Too much money with not enough to do.

I dont think yuo know much about the game in question. This guy was clearing easily over 6 figures from the numbers ive heard.

The guy is pretty well known around the area. You dont start putting up big screen tv's all over the place without making some money

I think their point was that the story would have sounded much more tame if there weren't the drug/gun references. When I was there I didn't see any drugs or guns. They even made you go outside if you wanted to smoke cigarettes. Their flat panel tvs will be missed

well "a little money" meaning, people wouldn't play there if it was an unreasonable rake from the table and "a little money" compared to a casino.

^ That's the point. That would be what we call ILLEGAL.

What he was doing is no different than selling drugs.

He better be praying he doesnt get cited for tax evasion.

Poker isn't the smartest business to get into around here. You know there is one legal game in the Raleigh area (i wont mention the name, you all know what im talking about). They pay their dues to keep their game from getting busted by cops.

Now when one game comes around and gets a little too big for the britches (i mean this game was a full-scale daily operation) and they AREN'T paying dues. Of course the due paying game is going to take issue with that.

It's just business.

I was always under the impression that this game was "protected" and taken care of with the local authorities.

however, it was not covert at all.

AT ALL.

i mean, location, number of poeple involved, ease of entry....

all that...

and it was ultra visible, and everyone who played aroudn the area knew about it and played in it.

now, with state or federal agencies involved, being taken care of locally cant help that.

i mean

gross was prlly nearing 10k a week on good weeks.

and if you want to be literal

the fucking name of the place was on the window in bigassed letters, and the code name wasn't exactly hard to decipher

Youve got one guy paying dues. And losing his business to a non-payer.

I've got a good idea who reported this game to the local agencies, but thats none of my business so I won't speculate.

not us-- might be pokertek. (much bigger than the 4 of us, we are a TOTAL side job from my day job at the chipchopper) but i dont get them being in places with cards. but if the guys are making money, then good for em. im not about competition (yet), im about good product that works, and making a good name. iwe do it all ourselves and hire no outsiders. so theres not gonna be any chance of rigged shit on our name.

i hate to talk shit, but when you go pushing your tables based on how much you can rake per hour instead of how secure they are, you're setting yourself up to make a terrible name for yourself. i talk security, security, and more security. and also security.
