well I hope whoever you marry agrees with everything you want, or else when you do actually get married it's gonna be a let down.

meh most guys don't really care.. They leave wedding planning to the women.. Pretty much I can get what I want if I ask at the right times... like when he's playing video games ...

Most guys agree with anything in a wedding as long as they don't have to run around with you to pick out everything.

I'm not gonna pick out a ring, because I want it to be a BIG surprise.

I do not want a wedding ceremony.

I could settle for a small service with a huge reception with an open bar...but my bf and his family would never go for that. But I sure as heck aint gonna have a wedding as expensive as his sister's! But I still want a church wedding, flowers, the dress, all that stuff...

bf is in agreement with me

It's my mother and I butting heads. To be fair, when she says 'you owe me', she's got more of a case than most mothers...but seriously. There are better uses for that time and cash. I've warned her that if my grandfather dies before we get married (he's a pastor), we're having a civil ceremony, and there's nothing she can do about it.

But it's entered my mind recently that I might be able to sway poppops to my way of thinking

Good luck getting anything close to what you want. That is a big mistake.

I don't understand why girls pick out rings or how they know that they are getting engaged, etc etc...

I want to be completely surprised when someone asks me to marry them...

...Anywho, I had a Nacho Bell Grande/soft chicken taco combo from Taco Bell... wayyyyyyyy too much food for a value meal.. How can anyone finish this stuff?

It's whatever for anyone else...

but I just want it to be a surprise

If you have an absolute trust in someone and you know that you are going to be with this person forever...then what does the ring matter? and what's the big rush in getting married?...

i guess i didn't read it that carefully

yeah, i think they dude should pick out a ring on his own

but there should be an understanding in place, that you all are "going to get married"

it shouldn't come out of nowhere

I mean, I have known expectations. I want it to be bigger than his sister-in-laws, but prettier than his sisters. I want it to be one that he designs, not something I may see on someone elses hand someday. With those guidelines, I'll get what I want to wear.

What's the point in all of that though?

It's a small token compared to the happy marriage that you guys will give each other for the rest of your lives...

Materialistic are we? What would happen if he bought you a totally different ring? Would you wear it or return it?

Well to answer your question, if he got me something different, thats fine...thats better than saying 'I want this ring from this place at this cost'....I want him to have lots of leeway, and I just want something pretty!

I think I see where the question is...you don't know how big I am meaning. I guess you don't understand if you can't see his sister in laws! I dont mean like 2 carats or something like that! Nothing huge!

^^I agree with you. Too many girls these days want to get married just to have the marriage, they kinda forget that it's a rest of the life thing. I think it's stupid to get married young. If you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, what is the harm in waiting a few more years.

Uhm, because like any reasonable couple that expects to last, they've talked about this topic, too.

My bf and I are getting married. I used to think that was a 'probably', but I believe him when he says he wants to get married. I think he wants it more than I do. We've discussed it a decent amount: he's not proposing until after I've graduated and have been working for a while, he doesn't want me to propose, and I told him he's a dead man if he gets me a diamond. We've talked about raising children, why we're going to adopt, where we want to live immediately after graduation and marriage, where we want to spend most of our lives, the location of a vacation home, long-term financial habits...lots of stuff. Why in the bloody fuck wouldn't we?

I would think most women would realize that if they can't talk to their man about anything, they shouldn't be with him, but the vast majority of women today are either completely irrational, crazy, stupid, or otherwise 95% (that's being generous) worthless...so while one can hope for some measure of practicality, it's stupid to expect it

Exactly! I'm in no rush to marry or be engaged. I just like to talk about engagement. Im not a pushy girl, and I'd never push my bf to make a decision or a financial move that big.

^^^^I should have been more specific! It's ok to talk about marriage and where your relationship is going to go in the future, etc etc etc...but what I was heading torwards in my opinion is that I would like to be surprised, because I'm extremely annoyed by girls that beg their boyfriends for a ring...stuff like that!
