The dresses that I have bought from modcloth always run a little shorter than the measurements indicate that they would.

Hey ladies,

The Twongo.com Big Deal today is a voucher for $50 for the Aveda Institute at Chapel Hill. I've had many friends graduate from the school and can vouch for their abilities! Right now the deal is for $26 and is valid for any of the services they offer which include elemental nature facial ($40), mani/pedi ($40), hair coloring, haircuts, and hair removal (varying prices). They already do these services at a cheaper cost but with this voucher you can get an even better deal.

The voucher must be redeemed by October 31st and traded in for an actual gift card. The gift card doesn't expire so you need not to worry about not being able to use it by a certain date. You can purchase up to four by 11:59 PM tonight.

When I'm at the pool I'm going to pee in it and see what anyone says. I'm talking bright bright orange.

see i heard that cranberry juice only works as a preventive thing... and doesn't help after you actually get one.

and if UTI meds are over the counter - that'd be awesome. although i understand why they want you to go see a doctor. in case there's a kidney infection already and what not.

Well only the doctor can confirm you actually have one. Unless there's some pregnancy test-like stick I can pee on. And I've been taking an antibiotic and the cranberry azo pills too that are otc.

Azo sells those too. It can be very useful to check before going to the doctor just in case you aren't sure it's a UTI.

[Edited on July 23, 2010 at 3:58 PM. Reason : I've used one and told my OBGYN that's why I need to see her.]

it's gotten to the point where i can usually tell either if i'm getting on or already have one...

sucks but good to be able to tell the doctor... most times they can fit you in pretty quickly, run the test and write a prescription.

I know you can get Uristat OTC (UTI pain reliever). Its probably what they prescribed you. It turns your pee reddish orange.

I had UTI a few weeks ago and didn't even know. I went to have my papsmear done and I guess my pee had too many white blood cells in it.

I got a kidney infection from a UTI once. It was SO NOT FUN. I ended up in the ER with a IV drip b/c I was severly dehydrated and throwing up uncontrollably.

The male nurse came in to tell me about what they were prescribing me. He told me about the Uristat for the pain and that I probably wanted to wear "my oldest pair of panties" b/c it could stain. "no nice Victoria's Secret panties"

I thought I was going to die.

If I even begin to feel like I"m getting a UTI, I start taking my cranberry pills and pounding the cranberry juice.

i HATE those embarrassing moments in the hospital.

went in for surgery on my wrist a few years ago. wearing just the hospital gown and what not. my arm had already been completely numbed, but still reacted a little bit to me trying to move it.

as i'm getting onto the operating table, i notice that there is a REALLY hot med student that's going to be in on my surgery. trying to slide onto an operating table in a hospital gown with one arm spazzing out - not the hottest thing in the world

I have a problem with frequent UTI's, even though I follow all the precautions. It's gotten better lately but I used to get 4-5 a year. I asked my doctor about cranberry pills and like LunaK said they're only good as prevention. Cranberries help prevent a UTI by making it harder for bacteria to cling to your tract. BUT if you have an infection, the bacteria are already there and the pills/juice won't help!! It's like closing the barn door after the horse ran away.

So I take the pills regularly as prevention, they're expensive but it's better than a UTI. Maybe you can find a cupon for them

I've only had one UTI in my life and it was because I didn't pee right after sex, never had a problem since. It was so painful though, I feel sorry for those having to deal with them all the time. Down there problems always make me weepy (when they're happening to me lol)

No need to cry, it's easy enough to get some AZO to hold you over a few hours until the doc can prescribe some antibiotics. The first time it happened though ... I was all

Anyone who has a problem with frequent UTI's, PM me and I'll tell you how I was able to fix this problem (haven't had one in about a year)

Yay! Congrats!

Btw you live in Charleston, right? What town? How is the housing market there?

We are going to look in the Summerville or Mt Pleasant area in a few years.

It's important that you ladies take the cranberry pills with the vitamin C rather than just cranberry pills alone if you're trying to prevent UTIs.

As someone who's prone to getting them (since I was 7 years old and had to have bladder surgery anyway: I was getting UTIs and kidney infections all the time), I now take preventative nitrofurantoin (Macrobid) after sex. Now my UTIs are usually limited to 1 or 2 per year, at least.

If you don't have any AZO standard on hand, you can also take four ibuprofen in a pinch.

[Edited on July 23, 2010 at 10:16 PM. Reason : Also, Nerdchick, nitrofurantoin is a generic, so it's super cheap]

^^ Yeah I live in Charleston, housing depends on your goals really. I live up north in Hanahan/Goose Creek. I used to live in West Ashley and I LOVED it. Nice restaurants, bars, and shopping. But I chose my house for convenience to work, I went from a 22 mile commute to 5 miles.

Summerville/Mt Pleasant are both nice, suburban places. Mt Pleasant is more expensive. Both you may end up with nasty traffic depending on where you work. I hate I-26 and avoid it at all costs. Construction & traffic are a nightmare.

I went to IKEA and got these clear clocks, with standard black hands and a red ticker... then I found some red frames that were in a pack of 2 for like $2.99 anddddd my kitchen table is white with red chairs so I think I will put it above those

I'm so excited to decorate

Real Simple has genius ideas... Need push pins? Use earrings where you only have one left and can't find the other. Need cute, cheap votives? Use foil cupcake tins with standard tea lights in them. Then when they burn out, you just throw them away.

I have two pages front and back filled with stuff from their website.. yayy excited

Suggestions for comfortable shoes that don't look like ass? Preferably something with low/no heel.

I interviewed for a preschool teaching job, and the principal wants me to come in for a trial teaching session. She seemed to really like me, so I'm hopeful about getting hired. She said that their dress code was along the lines of khakis and sneakers, but I freaking hate wearing sneakers because they look ugly with everything. Trying to find a good substitute that still looks casual and comfortable without being an athletic shoe.
