"The early word out of Carolina is that Steve Smith's hamstring remains a problem. Smith evidently went for a second opinion, and his teammates now sense Smith may have to miss Sunday's game against the Bucs as well. Smith needs to practice by Thursday or Friday to show the coaches the hamstring injury is behind him. ESPN's John Clayton reports that might be too much to ask this week.

Things continue to get worse for the Panthers. Not only have they fallen two games behind Atlanta in the division, but they may have to travel to play a desperate Tampa team this week without their best playmaker. Fantasy owners who dropped an early pick on Smith are now regretting that decision. We are also concerned that once Smith returns, this injury could come back again at some point. Smith is a big play receiver, but his injury history shows a definite downside to his game as well. Smith has missed 17 of his last 33 starts due to injury."

D. Gabriel v Den

I say cotch, toomer, berrian, and colston.

Welker is interesting because it's vs Tenn, but miami might get the lead and run a lot. I thought ATL might be a bad matchup for colston, but it looks like Simms passed for $texas yards against ATL. I gotta believe that Brees will do the same.

i'd go welker over berrian because he also does the return work...i REALLY don't think that grossman is going to throw for 4 touchdowns in too many games this summer...

I'd give Colston the nod because Jason Webster (5'9" 187) is gonna be guarding him (6'4" 230).

i disagree. the steelers did not completely abandon the run. in fact, i think they stuck with it too long. they continued to run it, and continued to get stuffed on 1st and 2nd down for way too long. they couldnt do shit when they were put in the 3rd and long situations, and that's what led to all their punts.

they didn't abandon the run until late in the 4th quarter when they were down 6-0, and at that point there wasn't really time for them to do much of anything. then ben threw a couple picks and the rest is history.

they definitely didn't abandon running though. they just got stuffed at the line by the jags.

^Ding Ding

sorry ncWOLFsu. Nice Try though.

14 rushes with Willie Parker on a historically running football team is called abandoning.

of the 13 times the steelers had 3rd downs in the game, they needed 6 or more yards on 10 of them. they were forced to punt on their first 8 possessions in a row, and that number only stopped there because they started turning it over after that.

none of their drives lasted longer than 6 plays, and the steelers never gained more than 26 yards in a single drive. time of possession was 22:35. pathetic.

willie averaged less than 2 yards per carry, so he really wasn't helping set them up with managable 3rd down situations. and actually, only 11 carries were by willie.

so i guess if the steelers don't run the ball when it's 3rd & 8, 3rd & 10, 3rd & 20, that's abandoning the run? the only two places where the steelers really made a concious effort to abandon the run were in the very beginning of the game and the very end of the game. very few people expected them to come out throwing with ben, so they caught the defense off-guard with 2 play-action passes twice in a row and he hit a tight end for a first down both times. then at the end they desperately needed to score so they stopped running for nothing on 1st and 2nd down and just threw every time.

this is a game where we needed jerome to bust it up the gut for 3-4 yards per carry to wear down the line. then give it back to willie once they're tired. the steelers missed the big brusing power rusher that has historically always been a part of their running football team.

They abandoned the run.

Everyone knows it...except for you.

You can run on other downs besides third. No one expects them to run on third down and 20, but when you add in the fact the Rothlesburger just came back from all of his ordeals and hasnt played in months, the could have stood to try the rush more than 14 of their 46 plays.

Well I've got Steve Smith, so I need to pick up a receiver since he's probably out again.

I'm thinking of picking up Chicago's Berrian and dropping Tampa's Clayton.

Thoughts?

My other receivers are Matt Jones, Troy Brown, Brandon Stokely and Andre Johnson.

Based on performances so far, as well as you having to rely on Simms at QB if you have Clayton, I think that is a good move.

^ you should be able to get more for Droughns even with his slow start. Williams looks better this year, but Matt Jones is the #1 guy for the Jags making Williams value even less. I wouldn't do it.

[Edited on September 20, 2006 at 1:08 PM. Reason : Eli will get you points regardless-- if you have him start him

[Edited on September 20, 2006 at 1:09 PM. Reason : SEA has had some good weeks for DEF but make no mistake, Eli will still get yards on them]

you're probably right but i have a feeling reggie is going to get a couple of scores, maybe a cheap one or two late but still put up numbers. any WR vs SF is a good play though.

i could probably get kevin jones for travis henry, should i go for it or hold onto henry?

(other than henry, my rb's are parker, t. jones, and deangelo)

a starter over a backup is money anyday, but in this case i am not quite sure. k jones doesn't put up many fantasy points and henry has a toe injury right now, but will likely replace chris brown when he is healthy. the guy who has k jones now really hates him though.

Reggie Brown reportedly pulled something in the last game and is questionable for this weekend, so check on that before going with him. I'm keeping him on the bench this weekend but it's because I have McNabb in and have some other good WR's.

i traded kennison at the beginning of the season for W.Welker which has payed off big since we get points for return yards.

Week 3:

Must pick 2 WR, and either a WR or RB from this bunch. Standard scoring system applies (1 pt = 20 yds, TD=6 points, bonus for 100 yds).

Braylon Edwards, Anquan Boldin, Antonio Bryant, Willis McGahee, Roy Williams (Det), Deion Branch.

Also, Kellen Winslow vs. gimpy Jeremy Shockey.

^^, I agree with the first three, but I would go Winslow over Shockey.

As good as the Baltimore defense is, they have given up numbers to opposing TE's.

Winslow has also "demanded" (lol, what a punk) that he be even more of the offense, even though he has more receptions than anyone on the team.

Shockey is hurt, NY has more weapons on offense, and the Seattle Defense hasnt given up anything v. the TE so far this year.

Cle. will be down early and often, so running wont be an option. Go with Winslow and reap the benefits.

As far as Branch, Holgreen has said that Branch and Burleson will switch series as the #2 receiver. At least for this week, I would avoid the WR by commitee.

The game is on FOX @ 4:00, so we can all watch, as I could be wrong...but I doubt it.

In a 30-24 Overtime game, Shockey had 2 receptions for 17 yards.

he is hurt, and until he takes some time to heal, I would look to continue to see performances such as that.

We start 3 WRs and due to LJ's bye I have to start another at the flex spot. Which four do I start:

Hines Ward
Antonio Bryant
Troy Williamson
Cotchery
Rod Smith (really, really thinking about dropping his old ass)
Donald Driver

I am thinking Ward, Bryant, Cotch, and Driver. Williamson versus the Bears scares me although the Bills D has been tough on WRs this year so Cotch may be due for a crappy game.

Alright Guru interested in what you'd do in this situation. Im pretty set on my lineup but im curious to see if you'll agree with my thinking.

I can start 3 RB/2 WR or 2 RB/3 WR

RB
Tiki @ Sea
T.Bell @ NE
C.Taylor vs Chi
K.Jones vs GB
J.Addai vs Jax

WR
C.Johnson @ Pit
L.Fitzgerald vs STL
D.Driver @ Det

GURU:

Here's my dilemma for the upcoming week:

I have to play 3 RB's:

- Rudi Johnson @ PIT
- Clinton Portis @ HOU
- Warrick Dunn @ NO
- Jamal Lewis @ CLE
- Deuce McAllister @ ATL
- Laurence Maroney vs. DEN

I plan on playing Portis, but am skeptical about Rudi since its Pitt's defense...Jamal has had some big games against Cleveland but I expect Warrick to put up good numbers...I don't like Deuce's matchup but Maroney could have a good game...thoughts?

^my personal opinion...play Tiki, K Jones, Tatum, Chad J and L Fitz

Watson vs Denver
or
Crumpler vs NO (Monday night)

I've been leaning toward Crumpler all week, mainly because I'd like to have a guy to watch Monday night... but I'm starting to think I should start Watson...

I would say Crumpler because he's basically ATL's #1 receiver (even though they love to run the ball)

Watson is one of a billion of Brady's receivers...he could easily get a touchdown and 5 receptions or he could get none...they spread around the ball so much its usually tough to rely on any single Patriots player (except Brady) to get consistent points

I'm waiting on Dillon to get injured so I can play Maroney

Think this QB controversy I have is going to repeat each and every week.

What QB do I start along-side McNabb...

Vick @ NO(current starter)
Leftwich @ Indy
McNair @ Cleveland

Tempted to start Leftwich though because Indy hasn't had great pass D as of late. Plus they are full of smaller speedy guys and the Jags have a stable of tall WR's, could create some mis-matches.

Good point about Leftwich, but I can't help but think that Indy's D is gonna bounce back somewhat, I don't think that this will be a shootout at all, more like a 14-17 game.

Plus Vick is playing NO, horrible D all around. I think you have to go with Vick.

do i play peyton or Donovan, im thinkin Donovan against a terrible San Fran D although u know Peyton is gonna have to throw against a good D.

as for RB, i have Edge, Addai and Dillon, prolly starting Dillon and Edge...anyone u think would be a good pickup? not many left besides doing trades and no one in the league wants to trade this soon it seems.

plaxico and stallworth at WR

Philly or Jax d? I figure go with Philly
