Warhawk is pretty fun. I only got to play it for about 20 minutes, but it seems like its going to be a lot of fun. Definitely need to get a better feel for flying and all that. The online interface is really good though. 5/25/2007 8:49:58 AM |

I just read that Warhawk has split screen online. That is really awesome, especially since you can join your split screen friend into the game in the middle of it with no lag or framerate slowdown. Warhawk sounds so awesome it is killing me to not be able to play.
http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20070525/fs.htm New Folklore Screens and Information There were a bunch of new Folklore screenshots released. The game is coming out in Japan on June 7 and they are shooting for a September/October NA release. Japan will be getting a demo of the game on June 1 supposedly so that should be worth checking out. The game looks really good if you are into Japanese type RPGs. You will have the ability to create and share your own dungeons.

This isn't really my 'type' of game, but I've been having a blast with it. I'm really impressed with the physics (wasn't expecting much) and the animations for the characters. They've really put a lot into it and it shows. The game is fun whether you're on foot, in a land vehicle (they have jeeps +tanks), in a turret/fixed machine gun, or in a Warhawk. I was really only expecting them to focus on the aerial battles.
Piloting a warhawk is awesome, the controls are very well mapped out and you can fly one like a pro in almost no time. They have a nice variety of weapons, both on land and in air. All your typical modes are in there (deathmatch, capture the flag, etc). All in all, it's a really fun game.
The beta is really unstable and crashed my PS3 constantly. It's really kind of annoying, and usually it would completely turn me off to the game. But, I find myself rebooting and logging back on, so that says something about the game. 5/27/2007 12:00:30 PM |

^^ Apparently doing that allows you to connect to the games better. Like a lot of the larger games won't allow you to connect for some reason, and I think this helps fix that. Doesn't do anything for the freezing.
The game really is fun, but its just damn annoying how it freezes the system so badly. Sucks that there is no way to just get back to the xmb or something, I hate torturing my system with the constant reboots.
Game is super fun though, and will probably be even better when they update it some. I constantly get blown up though all the time, so I'm not very good at it. I never played much battlefield. I will definitely buy this game when it comes out though.
man, turning up the surround sound when playing this game is just awesome. hearing jets fly by, exploding over your head, gun fire, tanks, engines... so freaking bad ass. 5/29/2007 12:53:22 PM |

Choose from a multitude of different tracks and be the first to make it to the finish line while avoiding oil slicks, water spots and more!" So the demo to Folklore was just released on the Japan PSN. I am downloading it right now but the download is taking forever because everyone in the US just woke up and is downloading it as well.

Quote : | "After picking one of the two main characters, Keats and Ellen, and going through a few minutes of story you will be transported to the Folks' world. Here you can try out the excellent battle skill system. Combat revolves around the gathering of Folk's Souls (hence the name) and using their abilities. So in defeating a new enemy, you gain a new attack. The demo may indicate that the two characters will come across different Folks on their separate journies, as Keats uses ground-based attacks in the demo while Ellen uses air-based attacks. Whether this will translate to the full game is unclear, but there will be Folks' abilites that are common to both characters.
The demo contains several different Folks' souls for you try to out. A basic attack and defence move, area based attacks and a monster summon. These abilities can all be mapped to the square, triangle, cross and circle buttons. Collecting multiple souls of a certain type will upgrade the attack via an exp system. To capture a soul in the first place, the Folk must be sufficiently damaged for its soul to be released. A press of R1 will then have your character grab it from a distance. The controller must then be yanked upwards, in a whipping motion, for the capture to be complete. This is a great use of the SIXAXIS controller and feels really satisfying when you collect multiple souls at once. Doing so will even net you an exp bonus." |

It is pretty cool but the demo is really short and you can't understand any of the story since there is no English which is part of the fun of RPGs. Capturing and using the creatures looks like it could be pretty fun though and you do get to fight one boss. The graphics look good and the map design has a really nice color scheme.
Making a Japan account is worth it because you can grab this game and also the demo of Hot Shots Golf 5 which is a lot of fun. They also have a lot of good HD trailers that we don't have like some for Devil May Cry 4.

anyone know how many PPD ps3's get on folding? The cards are old in a ps3 i think. Somewhere i read they're comparible to a 7800gtx, no wonder they won't be able to run the new DX10 games coming out in the fall, they're too slow. They need to invent upgradable consoles so they don't go out of date so fast. Then i might buy one.
I think i found out they get around 900ppd compared to a 1700-1900 ppd on a core 2 duo pc, and i was wondering because ps3's have 8 cores, so i'd assume they'd be pretty good at folding, but maybe the ps3 folding only utilizes a few.

I don't have too much experience with PS3s but i do read alot about upcoming games, and i they keep mentioning incompatibilities with the ps3 and xbox360, and how the systems can't handle the newer games. I have nothing against the ps3, but i do believe pc's will always have the upper hand in gaming.
I think it's interesting how the next generation consoles finally figured out HD, and multiplayer (live). HD PC gaming, and internet play has been around since the 90's not to mention that many console games are ideas or engines from pc games. For example the most popular game on xbox live is gears of war (overtook halo 2 in a matter of months) and it's based off the unreal 3 engine for unlreal tournament 2007 (pc series). They originially released gears of war as a demo for showing off unreal 07, and so many people liked it they turned it into a console game.
Anyway I'd rather be playing the upcoming Crysis or Half-life 2, or Oblivion at 1900 by 1220p. It's just personal preference. I wouldn't mind having a ps3 i just haven't had the time to invest in both.I also use a wireless x360 controller, and 2 wireless logitech controllers (ps2/3 style). So i have the option for mouse/keyboard or 2 styles of controller whenever i want.
And yes there are plenty of problems, alot more with gaming on a pc. You have to deal with various shit, and driver issues, and compatibility. The great thing about consoles is they usually work 99 percent of the time, and they're very reliable, and for that i respect them. Right now i only have money to put into my computer and i enjoy problem solving and working things out. I usually have very little trouble with games, and it's worth it to me, and it's stupid but sometimes i enjoy playing the game a little bit more just because i figured out how to run it perfectly and at the fps i want.
For most people it's a lot easier to buy a console, and it would be just stupid for them to try to run the latest games on older pc's with crappy lcds. But there's a certain population who enjoy having a newer computer and using that instead of a console, and again it's just personal preference.

How many people that have been playing games on consoles have had HD resoultion TVs over the past 15 years? How long has the HDTV even been available to consumers? Why in the world would the original Playstation or Sega Genesis need to have HD resolution if there would be nowhere to output that?
Quote : | ", and multiplayer" |
There has not been much of a market for console games to be multiplayer online, up until really a couple years after the PS2 came out. This market was strictly for gamers that spent top dollar on PCs. Up until around that time multiplayer gaming on a console was being done the way it was originally intended for, which is people playing together in the same place, just like before the PC became so popular for gaming.
Quote : | "I have nothing against the ps3, but i do believe pc's will always have the upper hand in gaming. " |
As far as video gaming goes, the PC will always eventually gain the upper hand on the latest and greatest consoles, but that's if you're willing to spend the money on the latest video card, etc. You also have to think about the games that come out and what platform they will be available on.
Right now the PS3 pretty much spanks any PC when it comes to pure processing power though if that's what you're asking. As far as the games you play, its just like you already said: It all comes down to personal preference.6/8/2007 2:11:15 PM |

Quote : | "Right now the PS3 pretty much spanks any PC when it comes to pure processing power" |
Yes the ps3 does have quite a few cores, but they're older models, and some dual and quad core c2duos now can easily outcompute a ps3. In terms of gaming, the gpus on a ps3 again are compared with a ati 1800 series or nvidia 7800 series. They defin. can not outperform a newer 8800gtx or ultra, or even a card like the 7950gx2.
Quote : | "This market was strictly for gamers that spent top dollar on PCs." |
That's not true. Online gaming sparked from older pc games such as counterstrike and in fact online gaming can be traced all the way back to the early 1970's when the first online game called "Advent" was created. Then came networked games like Mazware. In relation to some of the online games of the 90's, they didn't take "top dollar pcs" it's only until recently that pc's had to be updated every so often to play newer games.
And it's silly to argue them because a console is a dedicated machine for gaming, and a pc is not. All i'm saying is i've heard that Sony and Microsoft haven't added some newer PC games to thier list of games being released for ps3/360 because the next gen consoles simply arn't fast enough for the latest pc games.
http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/728/728629p1.html
That's just one example straight from the developer. I believe he mentions how the next gen consoles don't have enough "computational" power to handle Crysis. Plus Crysis has been in development for years, and there's more graphiically intense games in developtment out there for pc.

Actually the ps3 has a modded G70 chip for the gpu which compares to an 7800 series, but the sad thing is aside from the fact that gpu is so old, the ps3 has only 256 megs of ram, and i know it's a very different comparison because it's a dedicated machine running at a 1:1 ratio with the 3.2 cpu, but having that little memory gives developers little space to develope newer games for the ps3, and they haven't even started to develop to fully optimize for all the cores in the ps3, they're already outdated cpus, once developers figure out how to use them all, they're be even more outdated. Not to mention FEAR has so many issues on the ps3 because the gpu/ram is dying to do everything it does easily on a newer pc.
^I completely agree, oblivion was great on pc, i've heard it's addicting on ps3 too. But i'm sure that's been mentioned on this thread before.

^^haha i'm not trolling i have a ps3 and could talk about it. ^ and it might get that many points but the power pc base cpu (3.2GHZ), despite having many cores, it still is outdated compared to a core 2 duo cpu. A quad or even some dual core c2ds easily out perform the ps3. You've got to realize that the core technology in the ps3 cpus are years outdated, and compared to the newer 65nm conroes they are slow and that's partly why sony put so many in the ps3, so they could take later advantage. Anywho developers haven't even been able to develop games that utilize all the cores.
